Re: GM'S Sale of Hummer Underway, WSJ
I plan on hanging on to my H3 for a good while. I'd be sorry to see the brand go by the wayside.
Like some of the posts above, I heard that they had no major "interested" potential buyers. They tried to peddle it to the Ruskies, VW and a Chinese outfit and got "not interested" replies from all of them. |

Why do I see people constantly saying this? Owning the name HUMMER isn't costing GM any money, why would they take pure HUMMER's and slap a chevy badge on them? The issue isn't the name HUMMER, it's GM's belief that SUV's and trucks aren't selling and won't sell in the future, which is debatable. If they sell HUMMER, they can't use any of the existing designs, that will be sold along with everything else HUMMER. If they sell HUMMER and then make a chevy offroad vehicle that will be the dumbest move by GM, ever. Quote:

Re: GM'S Sale of Hummer Underway, WSJ
Hopefully GM will realize that in long run the Hummer brand is going to be profitable again, just a matter of time. With what they already invested into the R&D, it should be smart to keep it rather then trying sell it at any cost. H3T is out, H4 planned... and H3's sell, even now in current troubled times. It's like once gas dropped below $4, people regained interest in these deeply discounted SUV's. I saw several new ones on the local streets in the last week, both H3's and H2's... it's a steal these days to buy a Hummer.

GM receives Gulf Arab interest in Hummer
Two separate investors look at purchasing General Motors? brand Reuters updated 6:31 a.m. PT, Tues., Aug. 26, 2008 function UpdateTimeStamp(pdt) { var n = document.getElementById("udtD"); if(pdt != '' && n && window.DateTime) { var dt = new DateTime(); pdt = dt.T2D(pdt); if(dt.GetTZ(pdt)) {n.innerHTML = dt.D2S(pdt,(('false'.toLowerCase()=='false')?false :true));} } } UpdateTimeStamp('633553542949000000'); DUBAI - General Motors Corp has received interest from two separate investors from the Gulf Arab region to buy its Hummer brand, the company?s Middle East chief told Reuters on Tuesday. ?For sure, there has been interest from various parties within the Gulf ... there is a precedent in the cases of Aston Martin, Ferrari or Daimler and those kinds of solutions could be very realistic solutions,? General Motors Middle East Managing Director Terry Johnson said in an interview. General Motors is readying sales documents for its Hummer brand and has initial expressions of interest from potential buyers that it hopes to develop into formal sale talks, the automaker?s chief executive said on Aug 21. Johnson said keeping the Hummer division was still a realistic option and that it was not a ?foregone conclusion? it would be sold. ?Apparently, we have had two separate investors raise their hand as being interested, but I don?t know what?s happened since then,? Johnson said by telephone, adding the investors were from the Gulf region. |

Interest=/=offer or intent
But maybe if the Arabs(who are flush with all of the new oil money) were to buy Hummer they'd have the balls that the GM pussies don't and would build some innovative vehicles. |

:iagree: Exactly. Maybe the best thing that could happen is for a sale and just have new management running the operation. Essentially keep the factories and workers in place and as is, but run more efficiently. Just not such enormous overhead, sucking the profits away. |
Re: GM'S Sale of Hummer Underway, WSJ
Great
So will the Arabs supply Al Qadea with Hummers then? |
Re: GM'S Sale of Hummer Underway, WSJ
There is no way in hell I would buy a vehicle that the rag heads had anything to do with.

Re: GM'S Sale of Hummer Underway, WSJ
There are several parties interested in the HUMMER brand and the formal talks will begin within the next several weeks. Don't believe everything you read in the papers about the major suitors not being interested. :notallthere:
It doesn't do much for negotiating leverage if you tell the world, and the seller, on the front page of the WSJ that you are interested in buying. Those discussions don't take place in public forums, like the newspaper. |
