2008 engine too remember...

I don't ever get 15 mpgs or 14.

Are you looking at the display stating "MPG" ?

That thing is never an accurate measure of mpg.

I also have 2008 but mine is w/17" factory rims.

PAINTED TRIM PCS

BOB,

Love your truck. I had a question about the painted trim pieces.

I heard (from a local Hummer body shop) that if you tried to paint the black molding trim pieces, it will eventually flake off. Did you ask Sewell if it came painted? or if they painted it?

Anyone else know or have 1st hand experience on this?

How many miles was the drive back to Phoenix?

dvl57,

It was 1051 miles from Dallas to Phoenix, we took a bit of a detour on I-30 east for awhile until we realized we have to go west to get home. Dohh... in all it was about 1200 miles with that "little" detour included. We left at Sewell at 1pm and got home at 7:30am. An hour getting across Dallas at Friday rush hour was below average at about 20 MPH. Trip average was 58.5 MPH including time spent eating/gassing/peeing. You definitely fall in love or hate with a vehicle on a trip like that. I love this one...

It appears that the original owner had the pieces painted and most of the work was done at Sewell. The color match is great but I think that it will eventually flake off based on my quick inspection. When eventually is? Who knows? I am a little concerned about it, but not too much as there is little that I can do about it now. I can hopefully replace those pieces if that time comes. I intend to drive this thing for a LONG time...

Bob

Congrats! You're going to love it. The '08s and '09s do a lot more shifting with the 6 speed and have a higher top gear which gives a little better mileage than the pre '08s. I have a friend with an '09 who averages 13.5 combined. I was dubious, so he Emailed me a pic of his lie-o-meter saying 13.5. i noticed no comment on rocks and the windshield. When I take my Hummer on a long highway trip, the windshield seems to attract rocks from wheels and trucks. No starrring on the last two trips to Dillon, CO but a few small chips each time.
