Re: Wind noise on new H3
That is very interesting about the quarantine! I'll probably be stopping by my Chevy dealer Wednesday to show them what I've found and see what they say.... and maybe have them call Hummer. I haven't seen any posts about this problem really being fixed? I did see in some post that there was a fix but it seems like he said it made it worse. Has anyone else had this problem and it been fixed? and how?

Where did you get your's, Jax? Wouldn't Hummer of Orlando be closer for you? They are also going to be more informed on how to fix this issue than a GMC dealership. They were able to fix mine back in early may and it's been fine ever since. The noise is starting to come back from time to time but nothing like it used to be and really isn't an issue. Only does it recently at 75+ and only occasionally. Will probably have them look at it again when it is in for it's next regular maintenance. |
Re: Wind noise on new H3
I live in Brevard, I bought mine in West Palm Beach, Hummer of Orlando wouldn't deal. But, you are right they are closer. The GMC dealer here is more than willing to do all the leg work for me to resolve any issues I have.
And on another note... If you ever come beachside give me a heads up, maybe we can get a few of us togther. |

Re: Wind noise on new H3
Ok... I stopped by the Chevy dealer today and showed them my problem and fix, they wanted me to leave it but I said you should look and see if Hummer had and fixes first so they looked and sure enough there is a bulletin saying not to install any marker or off road lights and as of today there is still no fix. They told me to keep calling them back and they would let me know when they have a fix. But I'm sure I will here about the fix here from you all before they do! :) Thanks!

Re: Wind noise on new H3
I have the Marker Lights and the same problems everyone else is talking about. :lame:
If you have the farting noise you know how annoying it can be! My roof rails are also cracked and the dealer doesn't want to replace them until the fix for the marker lights comes out and they say they will do it all at once. I've been waiting for over 6 months now and I think this is B.S. I love the fact that my truck has the aerodynamics of a brick, it looks cool, but how could the engineers not realize the edges of that brick would catch the air at 70 mph? Why can't they come up with a solution in reasonable time? I feel the drama building:   :twak: :twak: :twak:  |
Re: Wind noise on new H3
any new updates on when the fix is coming out ?

Does anyone search before posting anymore?

Re: Wind noise on new H3
Well, I THOUGHT the 'shattering' sound was gone after the dealer re-placed/re-glued both A-pillar mouldings again... but the sound is back. It had been making the shattering sound between 58-64 mph... but that stopped. Now if I go 65 mph, the sound is back. I took a drive out to the desert over the weekend and heard it all over again. I'm going to give up on it and just turn up the XM. It's not worth the hassle anymore.

Well... Here is the Wind Noise fix I got from GM for the Off-Road/Marker lights. :( It did fix the noise but... oh yuck! The dealer that installed it is calling Hummer tomorrow to see what the heck is going on. The fix kit # they used is 19166037. The tech told me it just consisted of a couple of blocks in the middle to change the angle so it wouldn't make any noise, he also... on his own took it upon himself to put a rubber strip all along the front under the plastic .... and you can see how it makes the edges not flush with the pillar plastic. I can't beleive all this! But oh man look at the back! You can see the 2 blocks they put in there. I don't think I can except this fix at all!

Re: Wind noise on new H3
I think mine finally developed this problem. There is a gusting wind sound coming from the curved portion of the door and frame at the front upper left (higher speeds only or in cross winds). I believe it is a door seal or trim problem (perhaps both). How does one remove the external A-pillar trim plate (hood to roof) to check things out and apply 3M tape if necessary?
Thx, C |

pull back the door seal and take the screw out on the A-post cover |
Re: Wind noise on new H3
Is this happening to anyone with a straight roof? (no marker lights, no offroad lights, no sunroof) Ive got an 07 and I'm not sure if they have fixed this yes, I want to have marker lights installed but not if they are having all these problems.:excited:

Re: Wind noise on new H3
Easiest fix for the marker light or off road lamp package is remove the lights and where the inserts are in the roof hit them with A punch and hammer(dont damage the insert) so the insert sits lower(yes, bend the roof tin) reinstall and now you have A much tighter fit.

Re: Wind noise on new H3
Never had any issues with the windnoise on my H3, i got it right after the marker lights were on recall for the wind and somtehing else, and i was one of the first to get them dealer installed with the fix kit, and they did an awsome job, no windnoise at all.

Re: Wind noise on new H3
I never had any wind noise on my H3 till a week ago. Speedy Auto Glass replaced the windshield. They didn't install the A pillar covers properly. So I took it back and this time the jackasses used windsheild sealant to fill in the gap between the cover and the windsheild. Looks like I'll be taking it back and talking with a manager on Monday.

Re: Wind noise on new H3
I went through all of that hassle with wind noise that had sounded like shattering glass at higher speeds when I had my H3. The dealer had told me it was wind getting under the A pillars and reluctantly replaced them (even though one had a crack in it). That wasn't the fix, obviously. But after talking to one tech soon before I traded in the 3 for the 2 .. he told me it was actually wind getting trapped under the top molding above the windshield. The wind, at higher speeds, would go through where the A pillar touches the top windshield molding. He said the only thing that would stop that would be to wedge in foam. It's hollow under there and once you hit a certain speed it sounds like a calliope. :giggling: I basically got fed up with going back and forth to the dealer and having them look at me like I was crazy. So, I lived with it until I finally traded it in. Now I have a rattle in the dashboard. :(

Re: Wind noise on new H3
Speedy came back with an offer that they were ordering clips and screws from Hummer of Seattle.
I think I'll be stopping off and checking the illustrated parts breakdown for the A pillar covers at Hummer of Bellevue just to make sure that's the proper fix before I ever let them put their dickbeaters on my 3 again. |
Re: Wind noise on new H3
The high pitch squeal that resonated from my windshield at speeds from 25 through 75 was due to the glass company improperly installing the windshield. They put so much sealant in the top of the track it changed the angle of the windshield.
So they replaced the windshield for the second time and they had to replace the A pillar covers since they rigged them. You know, kind of like Obama, "he can't fix our economy, but he might could rig it!" :jump: Yeah, I know I'm going to hell.... |
Re: Wind noise on new H3
I was getting wind and flapping noises at speeds above 40. The first time, the service tech put two sided tape between the rails and the rail caps. When I brought it back the second time he determined taht it was a bad dood gasket on the rear door behind the driver. The third complaint to the dealer about the same problem brought us to a conclusion that the roof rails were faulty and replaced with a new design, and the "A" pillar cover was warped.
So far so good, though there is still a little more wind noise than I think there should be and I attribute it to the factory roof mounted off road lights. |
Re: Wind noise on new H3
i too have that noise. only mine is on the pass side. and i do not have roof marker lights or oem roof mounted offroad lamps. i have an 07 i have had for a year and it only does it to me when i have a head wind

Re: Wind noise on new H3
Greetings all!
I think my H3 passenger side rail or trim has finally cracked as I am hearing the rattle/flapping noise at highway speeds/wind conditions tat everyone mentions. Was this problem covered under a recall/TSB? My warranty has expired so I am interested in determining if GM will replace it for free given the widespread nature of this problem. Thanks! Chris |
