Alec , i only made one trip out there so i did not run all the trails , I was there on an Easter safari week end with a huge group and ran 3 of the trials , The trails i was on were rated 3 and 4 according to the organizers of that event . I ran them in a 94 Grand with 2" lift and one locker . Certainly not a hard core wheeler to run there 4 rated trails with .


Potato salad hill looked like a real challenge in photos iv seen but i did not get over to it . Sorry it has been some years and i dont recall the names of all the trails , one started at the dump bump near town . One i think was called prechards or somthing of that nature . The last started in a park and wound down the the desert floor , when you looked back up you couldnt see the trail you came down at all . If you know the area well you most likely know the trails im speaking of . </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

You seem to place alot of value on your opinion. I will agree that rookies enjoy themselves there because of the diverse terrain, however, I have quite a bit of experience and I enjoy myself there too...because of the diverse terrain. I can get as crazy as I feel comfortable with and I can go with people who don't want "extreme" on some of the same trails. Telico, Paragon, Kinslow, Windrock, all have their mild to wilds just like Moab.

I guess if you get your chubs in mud and meadows, that's your bag and you're welcome to it. Personally, I don't see much challenge in seeing how far in a stinky mudhole I can sink.

Do you care to realize that there are over 1000 miles of trails currently open to OHV, with at least 1000 miles more that have been locked out as wilderness study areas? You maybe saw 20 miles of trails tops! You sir, are a pinhead and are not qualified to comment. E-wheeler.

Done the drive from TN and MI to Moab quite a few times and yes, it is quite a trip; but worth it.
Can't make this one.

Now, I have spent four years photographing the Moab area, and find something new every time. But it is not for everyone. Many hate the desert, and for me that is great, since I plan on moving to Moab in four years. Less people, the better. I find that area breathtaking, and find MI the most un-interesting state I have ever lived in (and that includes NY, CO, TN). Sorry Michiganders, but that is my opinion of this state.

But the trails in Moab are as tough as anything Windrock (TN) or Tellico (NC) has to offer. Windrock and Tellico are rough , especially in the spring when it is pure mud rocks. (I will say, it is a lot easier cleaning sand off the Jeep after I returned from Moab, then cleaning packed on mud after leaving Windrock one spring weekend.)
Even though Windrock and Tellico are challenging so are Hell's Revenge, and potato salad, and I did these in my Jeep, and yes, I carried extra half-shafts with me, and made sure there was a few winches in the group (wenches too if available )

If the park you are mentioning is Canyonlands, and it was a switchback road that you enter just as you enter the park, it was probably Schafer trail, that linked up to White Rim and Potash roads at the floor of the canyon above the Colorado River.
If it was straight and near Schafer trail, and had a bolder making an arch across the road, halfway down, it was Long Canyon Road.
Great roads for some photographs, but not what I would consider tough (hell, Michigan's paved roads are worse). I have been up both in high-clearance two-wheel drive pickup trucks, and Long Canyon can be traversed with a Lexus all-wheel drive SUV, just some decent ground clearance.
The other from town sounds like Kane Creek, and as someone already pointed out, that has become harder each year. Having only been there in the summer, never saw any water that could cause any problems. You turn by the McDonalds to get to Kane Creek (I believe).
I hate to say it, those are not the roads these guys are talking about. Someone said they puckered when traversing some of these trails. I got news for him, I could not pucker because something was trying to exit at the same time.
I never felt that way at Windrock or Tellico. Yes those are some nasty roads that can tear a vehicle apart, but these so-called off-roads around Moab can kill you, and destroy a vehicle.

I give anyone credit for traveling these trails, but to do it in a 30K plus H3 or better yet a 50K plus H2 shows some balls. To do it in a vehicle you have to drive home deserves even more credit.

Kane Creek was a blast. We had a Jeep tag along for most of it and had to pull him from the creek once. He also took a very longtime getting up what we called "F*** you Hill".

Check out the pics here. The very first pic is of the easy section where there had been a rock slide. Our big trucks had actually pivot on a rock in one place to stay a foot or so away from the ginormous drop off... With the fron right on stacked rock!

Potato Salad hill every H2 that tried it when right up.

This is the way I will be traveling. 491 miles

Well it could be easy for us. We only live four hours away in Summit County Colorado. I have a lot of Experience all over Canyonlands (MAZE, Island in the Sky, Needles etc along with several other areaea and the rest of Southern Utah. Lots of kick ass palces official nad not so well known.

Do you have a date in April picked out yet? I think the key for the trails are some that are fun and that have options for various levels of...well tolerences of abuse. Anything within an hour drive each way or so would be cool...from town that is not total trip time.

Good time of year to have fun and get good rates there too.

I would love to see this loud mouth pull off some of the real challenging trails. I know several rock crawling competition rigs that have probs w/ some of these trails! bring out the old ford pinto and tear it up!
By the way they call it slick rock because when it get's wet it's very slick!

Anyone doing the Hole in the Rock trail? That's one of the best trails down there. Takes a couple of days and one ought not to try it by yourself.

Just got into DC from Seattle so have been out of the loop. Gobi rack and all, still managed around 18 mpg... 5 months and about 13,000 miles, whats a few thousand more? Just hopin when this engine wears out, the diesel will be available and it'll fit. Really would like to join the caravan out to MOAB if I can get away. Where ever the list is, put me on it.

I don't think it is going to work out timing wise but could you put me on the list so I can try
