Uh oh? The SWR meter in placed in-line between the antenna and silver box. Jumper coax from silver box to meter, installed coax from meter to antenna.

I don't think he's kidding at all I hadn't even thought of that since mine was a true all-in-one and the hand unit connects direct to the antenna coax. Man oh man

What's the rule? If you do it yourself you'll get it right on the third try...and if you accept help/ideas from others you can't get it right sooner than the second try.

In spite of the typo no, I wasn't kidding. Ruh roh.

KenP 01-30-2006 01:34 AM

So the fricken SWR connects to the box?! Sum Bish!!

On the otherhand, I had it on for sometime today and was getting good reception. I should have gotten a radio-check.

You may be on to something there. FWIW, when I hooked up the meter, everything was nearly as good as it could get. No tuning was necessary.

Well, I'm sure as heck not digging around in there until my hands heal.

Ken -

How do you like this air grinder? How does it compare performance/utility wise as opposed to a Dremel w/flex shaft? Just wondering. TIA

dochummer 02-01-2006 01:35 AM

Looks great ken. Did you use the coat hanger method for hanging the cb?

Racer-X 02-01-2006 04:07 AM

Ken, did you ever check your tuning? When I bought my antenna at a CB shop the guy told me with the cobra and firestick they should be pretty close to spot on. Said he;s never seen that setup that needed adjustment. Rods results seem to back that theory.

So wondering of you tested and what you got so I can see if I should bother with tuning.

Nice install BTW. I'm doing mine very different and will post my install and ideas.

Rob: I really like it a lot. It's been years since I used a Dremel, but this thing was awesome. Gotten on sale it was cheap and I wanted some more stuff for the new air compressor.

Doc: I did the same thing Rodster did and drilled a hole right-smack-dab in the middle between the factory holes in the mic mount. Then mounted it using the dash bolt. I also used some double sided tape behind the mic mount to keep it from swiveling.

RX: I did not tune it. The thought of pulling all that crap out to do it really pissed me off. However, unlike our old setup, I turned it on and was receiving right in the driveway. That's great because we're a long way from the highway or any truckstops. I didn't receive anything with the old truck.

I did use 18' of coax and ran an extra ground wire on the antenna. I'm sure that has something to do with it.
