Here is the Latest:
Mike was able to check out a trail I found off Ligon Mill Road in Raleigh. LOOKS GOOD, so we have the greenlight! I won't be able to meet up with ya'll until around 3...so if ya'll want to go earlier, obivisouly you can. ANYONE WHO WANTS TO JOIN CAN!!!!! |
Any idea what type of terrain this is? Mud, sand, tight-ass trail??
|
The terrain is packed soil with some fairly steep hills with loose soil on exposed rock. No tight trails, it's all open (or at least what I saw) with no trees just some underbrush. It's pretty rutted in many places and if we get rain in the next couple days it could be slick with fairly deep mud holes.
The trails follow a Progress Energy power easement, if that helps. Unfortunately, when I looked at the trail, I was in a company Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 and didn't feel confortable exploring the trail alone (only because it's a POS w/ 200k miles). I'm going to try and get out an look at another area Wednesday and post that information. |
Sounds good. Post meeting places/times. Do we want to wait on HI at 3 or what? It's totally cool with me either way.
|
I say we meet at 2:00 P.M. at US 440 (beltline) and Capital Blvd. (US 1) north. There is a BP station when you turn right onto Capital Blvd.
Let me know if this will be OK. |
I know this is an old thread but if you are looking to drive up on the beach, try Carolina Beach in Wilmington or Kure Beach next door to it.
Not as many people on Kure and a little rougher but still cool to drive on the beach. Just air your tires down. Mark |

I've been to Carolina several times. I don't think I have been to Kure though. I may have to check that out. Thanks Mark! ![]() |
