David: Responding to your comments: Regarding having the locking gas cap keyed to match the door key: It doesn't look possible to my eye. I keep the gas key in the center storage bin attached to a key fob (so it can be easily found) and that works well for me. Regarding where the engine break-in instructions are located in the manual: I've searched and been unable to find them. I'll take another look. Regarding whether our H2s are identical: I hope so. My black Adventure Series H2 has been perfect -- -- every fit, every switch, every element -- -- perfect. George SSSS </div></BLOCKQUOTE> In regard to the keyed gas cap, I used to have a 280ZX with a keyed gas cap to match the ignition key. Very cool but it was factory, this won't be. Our H2's sound like twins. My dealer ordered the highly desireable "smokers package" on mine, a TOTAL waste of $15 but they did put the black grill on it. Very cool now that I've seen it but not something I would have probably done myself had I ordered it. So far mine as been great except it's gas guzzling. 103 miles on a little under half a tank even though my AVG ECON says 10.6. I hope that improves (within reason) quickly. David |

Now feed it! ![]() Obviously I didn't buy it for the great gas mileage and I'll be driving it for a while no matter what. My dealer is installing a chip tomorrow that is "supposed" to increase power which could translate to increased mileage if I can continue with the "ginger" driving I'm currently doing with it since it is still in the break in period (if that even exists). My vet swears he drove one with this chip that gave him 14.9 mpg on the open road. We will see if it is as the testimonials claim. When I finish this message, I am headed home which will be a 60 mile open road trip. I'll reset the AVG ECON and see what it gets on the way home and have something to compare it to after the chip is installed. Either way, this is GREAT FUN! The sales guy is supposed to introduce me to offroading tomorrow on their demo track. I don't expect a major thrill, just a teaser. David |
DrG, different H2s have different mpgs seemingly unrelated to location, altitude, a/c on/off, etc. I tried driving for a month "gingerly" with a/c 90% off, and my mpg only goes up from 10.4 to 10.8. Others have always average in the 12s (or like Tower, in the 9s). Don't give mpg another thought.
And if you think you're already having "GREAT FUN!" now, you're gonna have aching jaws when offroading, from grinning so much.. ![]() |
David,
Ditto what my friend H2F said. The common thought is that chips, cold air intakes, air filters, headers, exhausts, and supercharging or turbocharging will all help a little. None of them, individually or collectively, will offset their purchase price in gas savings over the life of the truck. So install them if they make you happy. Either way, get ready to grin! ![]() |

I'm kind of warming up to the whole Texan thing (long story). I think one of the nicest/best quality fuel doors out there is the one made by Predator Motorsports. http://www.predatormotorsports.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4 http://www.predatormotorsports.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=167 The black is available now, the chrome in late July. If you want a good deal on stainless (looks like chrome, but won't rust) nerf bars, let me know. I switched to U-steps so that I can ditch them more easily for off-roading. You may want to consider this. But if you do want the "silver" ones with black foot pads, let me know. They were only on my truck for a week. </div></BLOCKQUOTE> Thats the one I have.. Nice except the play in the lock.. I added some pads there seems k now. ![]() |
When did you get yours? They now use a spring loaded large ball bearing which seems to eliminate rattle, even when closed but not locked. Also, Predator Motorsports seems great about standing behind their products. For that reason, I like the company very much.
I got a chromed spare tire carrier from their first production run. They told me to stay on top of it to prevent rust. It got pretty bad in a couple of spots, but I figured, what with the warning, I was on my own. I called them and they checked the production date. Sight unseen, they said they would send me a new one. Apparently they got a much better chromer. I decided to save them shipping in exchange for them doing the physical swap for me. Great company. ![]() |
OK, I finally found something in common with DRTYFN, a general dislike for country music, and I found something in common with PARAGON, a general liking for southern rock.
As far as the rest of you bastards, we'll see. DRTY, you may call me a homo now. PARAGON ditto on the stupid/idiot slander. ![]() OKAY everybody relax, it's a joke.... |
