Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
That H3 Alpha is bad a$$! I can't wait to wheel with one, but gets some tires on it already, GM! Some 35" mall trerrains would be perfect.

Sewie, You can't harsh a guy for dreaming!!!! Not sure if i like the little head bashing icon. I prefer this little guy >>>>> :dancingbanana: The H1 ALPHA's came with snorkels, at least the ones I have been in did. Maybe it is too much for the soccer mom and mall warrior style H3's, but just imagine being able to go through a 36-40 inch deep body of water with no worries!!! As stated, they should at least be offered as a factory installed option. I am particularly impressed by the seemingly airtight cabin on the H3. Many people comment on how quiet the ride is and I am convinced that it is somewhat close to being water tight from the bottom. I have not submerged mine up to the doors yet, except at high speed through a small area. I am sure somebody here has and knows whether or not the water seeps in... Does anyone know the estimated/projected fuel economy of the H3 ALPHA? All in, I paid $41k for my 2006 Adventure package including california tax, title and license and the options. The only thing I have added since is a higher gain XM Antenna. Can't wait until the 33's wear out so I can upgrade to 35's! Not sure on the $60k price tag, but I believe there is a market that would gladly pay $50k for an H3 ALPHA with V8, real tires, front locker, deeper fjording capabilities, heavy duty roof rack, and that CTIS would just be the sh*t!!!! I know I would. |

The H1 is a completely different beast, with 4 wheel independent suspension, geared hubs, inboard brakes, etc. etc. CTIS may not even possible on an H3. That's mainly why you got a :twak: . If F5 is right, and the Alpha comes as a package with the Lux interior, etc., then I'd expect it to come pretty close to $50K without all options you're mentioning. My $60K comment was actually being generous. |
Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
well i paid 41 out the door with all my options and lux offroad. i would like to see the h3 alpha be in the similar price range. cuz im a broke ass

Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
ok, i guess i just need to build a garage big enough for an h1 and then find a used one!!!
still, no need for harshness or head bashing... :grouphug: |
Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
It appears, I was wrong about the front axle, other than to say it is cast iron as in the video; not a cast iron shaft with an aluminum housing as in the existing H3.
|
Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
yeah what does cast iron mean? no more ifs? solid axle? tell me!
|
Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
Quote:
the current front axle has an aluminum housing that tends to flex, causing the pinion to ride up on the ring destroying the gears. Newer ones have been hardened, and it appears it has helped, but the best would be a cast iron housing that does not flex. |
Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
hey 5 , are they gonna do something about the front diff carrier bracket assembly , a bunch of us got some slop in them after tater salad hill :giggling:

If it is a larger diff the carrier bracket is different as well. So to replace the front diff, would get a little pricey. We would have to get the complete case, R&P, bushings, bearings etc., etc, carrier bracket and bushings....blah blah bliggity blah (timgco:giggling: ), unless we could get the pumpkin already assembled, then just pay to install. Either way, dealer only item. |

The new bumper is for "car to truck capability". That way when you hit that car infront of you, you don't ride up over the top of the rear bumper. Nothing to do with the front axle. |

Ahhh, thanks for the clarification. :) Are the mounting points the same so you can swap back to an old bumper and get your approach angle back? :shhh: |

At least we don't require the rear bar like in Europe. I wonder how hard it would be to remove when off-roading? I understand the possible liability if you remove it for highway driving and run over a Prius (that does sound like fun though). |

Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
A little more something would have been nice for the interior on the ALPHA. Perhaps different gauges, a nice DIC, steering wheel controls, etc. The V8 will be cool however.

Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video

The only difference inside will be the Alpha emblem on the steering wheel and head rests. You can't tell the difference in the gauges. |

It ain't even close to watertight.. I dipped a rental H3 into a hole a bit to deep, had to be snatched out backwards and ended up with 3 inches of water in the floorboard in less than a minute.. Someguy on here dumped on off into a pond sideways a good while back and the moment he hit water it fried most of the electrical stuff in the truck.. Doors wouldn't unlock, windows wouldn't roll down.. |

unbelievable. for months people have been bitching that there was no enough on-road power. now hummer's giving us a quick v8 and probably at the least the same or better gas mileage, and now there's bitching that the guages are not different. whine whine whine.:lame: :lame: :lame: |

I don't really care that it's got the V8 other than it adds Flex-Fuel capacity. I think some interior changes would have been nice to separate the H3 ALPHA from the H3 however. If the price difference is only $2,000, then I guess it's not really a big deal. ROAR! :D ![]() The skid-plate looks bullet proof! And then there's a second shield. Awesome! The more plates the better! |
Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
The flex fuel thing is useless. I can count the number of stations selling it around here with my ear hole. That's right, 0. It's a gimmick, schpeel, non-event. IF the thing comes with those stupid flexfuel badges, I'm heat gunnin' 'em off immediately and replacing them with Jolly Rogers.
All those skidplates look great, wonder if they're options? |
Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
Hey, I wonder if they beefed up the steering components. Can anyone tell from this pic?

Re: H3 ALPHA Pics and Video
Huck,
In my humble opinion, Flex-fuel or H2 are the growing technologies of the next 10-15 years. Flex-fuel or bio-diesel are the only two oil alternatives that are going to work short-term, as H2 is going to be a long, long way from anything like a HUMMER (unless you don't mind filling up every 100 miles). Gas will likely go up as China, India, and other countries expand, and as the oil-wealthy nations continue to be unfriendly. Some of the only near term solutions are: 1. Discover more oil domestically (highly expensive) 2. Blow the bits out of those countries and set up our own infrastructure (highly expensive and slow) 3. Grow our own fuel (Think Brazil; very possible as the distribution networks are there, and we're familiar with liquid fuels) 4. Stop driving It's not really an environmental issue (though there are environmental benefits when using switchgrass or sugar cane), but simply (I think) the changing nature of our world and economy. Personally, whatever I drive next I want to have flex capability because it's coming, even if it's not here today. Though corn has to go away as the production source. Anyway, back to the gloriousness of the H3 ALPHA! :D |
