Re: news on the cracking plasitc trim

mine were cracked and i got them changed, but there is still a 1/4 inch gap between the two pieces. I got them changed about 3 weeks ago, the new ones were already shipping, but I think they stuck me with the old version ones, or they put them on wrong.

Does anyone know the actual replacement part numbers?

Re: news on the cracking plasitc trim

Both my roof rails are cracked in that area too. I brought the rig in for an oil change last week and had asked to have the rails ordered to have the work done at the same time. I got the GM shuffle instead, I told them that both my roof rails are cracked and needed to be changed out. From the looks of it they only removed the front pillar molding around the windshield and replaced the one missing screw cover on my marker lights. Both roof rails are still cracked and the the molding around the windshield looks worse then when I first took it in. This tells me they either didn't order the parts or they have no idea what they are doing or what a roof rail is, why do they lie its so frustrating....Now I'm pissed . Now I have to go back and hold their hand to make sure the work gets done.

The dealer is telling me the above parts numbers are for the 2007 H3. 2006 has different numbers. They have been wrong before and can be this time also.

Re: news on the cracking plasitc trim

I called MedVed in Denver today and they said that there is really no recall and theat they were just replacing them with the same part since GM has not done anything since they said the parts would be out in May. I reminded him that he got that info from me and tht I now have the part numbers and the GM Bulletin. He said oh let me look. He then entered in the part numbers that FStop provided and said oh, We will order them and you can come in next week.

Thanks you Fstop

Re: news on the cracking plasitc trim

The ignorance of dealers, it sometime amazes me. :D

Yes, it is the same part number for the new rails as used on 2007 H3s. It is the same part! The bulletin clearly states 2006 H3 vehicles. Does the dealer think that all new part numbers are issued for each new model year vehicle? Hell no...they are issued for each new part release, and if the part(s) is carried over for a new model year, it will have the same part number.
Tell the dealer to read the damn bulletin or you will be reporting him to Hummer customer assistance, and if you get a JD power survey, you will note on the survey the dealer is an idiot.

The part was redesigned to correct a problem (cracking), and the new part is supposed to be more robust and not supposed to crack. Therefore, GM will carry the same part over and use in on the '07 vehicles, and they might use it on the '08 vehicle. Probably 75% of the parts are the same number between the two model years.

Sorry for the ranting, and I'm not ranting at anyone on the board, but I had a few conversations with idiot dealer service managers today, and I'm truly amazed that any of them can wipe their arses with two hands and a mirror.

Its an embarassment to have them as a Hummer dealership.

I'd drive to Colorado Springs or Casper, WY to avoid those jerks anyday of the week.

Re: news on the cracking plasitc trim

Got mine replaced today. Seems to fit a lot better at the top joint. The windshield trim still fits kind of "off" but it is fine.

They also replaced the Jack. From the invoice. "GM is making available a redesigned vehicle jack for certain H3's. This new Jack has been designed to increase Jack durability in the evne tof repeated use under cetain conditions."

All work was covered under warranty as was the rental. They gave me a 2007 Black on Black H3. Base package, I am glad I got the Lux for ourselves. I like the adjustable seats, leather, and everything else. Driving an Automatic was kind of wierd at first too...... kept hitting the ghost clutch.

Medved Service mentioned that they did not know about the new part being available until I clued them in. However Derek did take care of me, I really don't have any complaints about this visit. Still some grime stain on the headliner from a previous visit, (fingerprint marks) I forgot to tell them until they end of the day and they said they would take care of next time, , ....I had to go.

Re: news on the cracking plasitc trim

we are replacing them on the lot before they are sold. trying to catch em all, but a couple have made it past. parts are easy to get, even easier if you contact the parts department..they will order them and then they should set the service appointment when the parts come in...try it that way and see if it works at other dealerships..:D

Re: news on the cracking plasitc trim

Are the roof rails supposed to be flush up against the A pillar molding .. fitting like a puzzle piece, or, is there supposed to be a small gap between the two? I have about a 1/4 inch gap between the connecting moldings.

Re: news on the cracking plasitc trim

I have a gap there and they fit together crappy. When I put on my 2 marker lights, I put a screw through the pillar plastic into the roof plastic. I figured I couldn't make it fir worse. There is still a small gap but they sit flush now:cool:

Re: news on the cracking plasitc trim

Greetings all!

I think my H3 passenger side rail or trim has finally cracked as I am hearing the rattle/flapping noise at highway speeds/wind conditions tat everyone mentions.

Was this problem covered under a recall/TSB? My warranty has expired so I am interested in determining if GM will replace it for free given the widespread nature of this problem.

Thanks!
Chris
