Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

I had the peripheral electronics one ... I've had it installed for about 3 days and I've only noticed mine chiming 2 times ( what happens is the oil, battery, water temp and gas gauge goes to zero and the battery light comes on and a second later goes back to normal)... I'll see how it fares with a long trip to san francisco

The FM transmitter is looking better all of the time.

If you like the sound from a FM modulator then go for it....you may as well just listen to an old transistor radio since that is the sound quality you are gonna get. I like music waaaay too much to even think about crappy FM modulation.... I will definately live with an occasional light or quick trip of the gauges. Mine has been installed for nearly 3 months and it works fantastic other than the occasional incident, sure it would be great if they get the kinks ironed out but if they dont I have no problem living with it. I did a 3 hour drive yesterday (round trip) and it only chimed 1 time the entire ride.

I called Lynch Hummer the other day to see if they install adapters. They do and only recommended the Axxess ipod adapter. Told me to stay away from the Nucleus as it was causing problems in the trucks. Anyone here tried the Axxess?

I agree 100% with you on this... I can put up with the bell every so often. The sound quality over an FM Modulator is so much better its not even fair to compair the 2 units.

I would recomend the AI unit over the PE one based on my experience with both units. HOWEVER, I would use the directions that are on the PE website on operation as they function the same (The AI unit directions suck, and that's a very nice way to put it)

I can also say that the bells are so random that I get mad at the unit because my heart skips every time I see a warning chime :o

OH.. and forgot to add... the unit works with the iPhone. Of course there is no hands free but it will pause the music and you can talk on the phone.

The Ai and PE is the same unit AI makes them and just re-badges them for PE...

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

Mine chimes at least 3 or 4 times an hour and the gauges go to zero at least once per day for a few seconds. When I first installed, it was only the chime and traction control light, now the list is growing.

I know that the sound is much better through the Nucleus, would never deny that, just don't want to take a chance of being stuck in the middle of nowhere waiting for a tow truck.

This thing is messing with the Hummer's computer, otherwise the glitches would only impact the radio systems. Besides, you would not live with it if it came from the dealer with this problem.

It is unacceptable the amount of time that they have been promising a fix, especially after taking and continuing to take so many people's money for a known defective product.

Hopefully, there's not a lead paint issue to deal with as well..............

Atleast you can listen to some wicked tunes while you wait.:clapping:

Disappointing news at the very least. Looks like I'll have to wait.

Or just go back to ripping my favorite IPOD tunes on to CD.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

Heres an UPDATE!!! ipod troubler partners...

I've narrowed it down to a plug issue... When I was dropping the rig at the dealer. I wanted to swap back over to the stock tunning on my Hypertech tuner. And for some reason my hypertech was reading a DTC U1000 code. Which means the factory ecu couldnt find a control module ( which is the xm receiver)... And it was not letting me re-program the ecu to the factory tuning. But, after about an hour of trying. I said screw it they werent touch the ecu or doing any diagnostics on the rig anyway... So I brought it to the dealer with the Hypertech tune in the ecu...

So when I got the rig back home from the dealer later on that day ... I re-programmed it with the hypertech but I had to clear the 2 codes I had which was P0300 and U1000 ... The P0300 is a code for faulty or plug injectors. And the U1000 is for the xm control module. So what I did was take out the IPOD adaptor. Re-program the factory ecu with the hypertech and it went smooth no issues... And as I re-read the ipod factory manual. It stated that we had to insulate the wiring harness for the adapter. So what I did was wrap the harness in electrical black tape and re-installed the ipod adapter. And secured it to a stable spot in the dash with zip ties... And ever since then I've only had 2 lights in the past 3 days...

It seems to me that the actual plug going into the xm module is not secure as much as the factory wiring harness which causes the fault in the dash... What I need to do is find a better quality plug and try it out...

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

When you remove the ipod adapter from the harness it loses its buffer memory so that when its pluged back in you get less errors. But give it some time they well come back. I to hope the fix is comming soon.

The errors that do happen don't harm the rig it would just be nice if they were gone.

but because of the adapter the factory ecu is throwing a U1000 code...

You don't need the leveling kit you should have enough adjustment with the stock keys to level it out. I to looked at getting the Fox shocks. But to get them from Fox for the front they had to be custom made and aren't valved for the H2. If you go to Rod Hall Racing they have Fox shocks make a special Rod Hall Fox shock for the H2. They cost like $450 + per shock.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

FYI
to those people that doesnt know how to change your preset buttons on your navi to SEL SRC = 1 , HELP = 2, Prev Menu =3, Next Menu = 4, Select = 5 and Menu = 6 ... This is how you do it, select and press preset #2 and go press number #2 preset until SEL SRC is showing and its on CH1 ... Hold preset # 1 on your Navi until the name on your preset # 1 is changed to SEL SRC ... You do this will all the other buttons just remember to press the preset button number # 2 to find the name and channel ... Good luck

But as for the warning lights on and off issue... I found that the ipod interface is interferring with me being able to program my factory ecu with my hypertech programmer. And it throws codes U1000 and U0107 ... And because of it throwing these codes I cant re-program my factory ecu back to stock. So what I have to do is unplug the ipod interface and then re-plug in the factory xm plug to re-tune my ecu with the programmer. After I'mone reprogramming I re-install the ipod and re-install the glove box...

Its a pain in the butt to do that every time but I'm still under warranty and I have to return my tuning to stock everytime I go to the deal for service...

It has been six months since I have been waiting on a fix . I finally got tired of my wife thinking we were going to break down everytime the pinball machine sounds went off in my hummer I took the unit out and threw it in the back.

Well I just called the guys for the first time. They say nothing new. It is their highest priority and they are working to get it fixed. He would not tell a time frame but told me they would do a swap out when the new units were completed. He told me to keep the paperwork and receipt as he would need that for the swap.

So I keep using it and watch the light display. Praying they will fix it soon.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

My Axxess unit recently broke, so I replaced it with the Neucleus unit.

I got a unit last week from Logjam, it had terrible engine noise. I was referred to tech support a Neucleus. I was told they were aware of the problem with recent batch of units, and that I could get a new unit, with a fix, by the end of the week from Logjam. I got the new unit and installed it yesterday, no engine noise, so I thought that life was good. The interface and installation are far superior than my former Axxess unit, plus the benefit of having an aux input to share between a Sat Tv, DVD, and game console.

Unfortunately, during about 2.5 hours of driving, I had the brake warning come on and a random chiming incident.

I had not seen this thread before my purchase. It is a shame that such a great product is plagued with this problem. Hopefully there will be a fix. I will call Neucleus today to add my name to those of you who also have this problem.

Is there anyone who is using this unit and does not have this problem?

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

AI has been lying to consumers for months about a fix while they get rich selling units that are defective.

We should start a class action suit. Anyone out there interested?

MVR 155 02-02-2008 03:31 PM

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

Sorry but I can live with a random light and a ding from time to time..... it sucks that the product does not work the way it should (problem free) but the overall function and sound quality is enough to make me not mind the occasional ding or light, have been using this unit for over 6 months and other than a random light/ding have not had any issues. Class action lawsuit is a bit over the top if you ask me...... if you cant live with the minor issues then return your unit for a refund and use a crappy FM modulator

Devis1957 02-02-2008 09:21 PM

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

You don't understand computerized electronics, do ya? Would you live with it, if your Hummer came from the factory with all those "bells and whistles"? I'm sure you would bring back to the dealer in a minute and if they could not fix it, you would run their name in the mud all over this forum.

Consumers deserve the truth, not the lies that AI is dishing out about patches, and they certainly should suspend sales until the patch is in place. If not, then a lawsuit certainly fits.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

Any news on the fix? I really want one but I'll wait till it is fixed. If it's not fixed, is there a comparable unit that doesn't cause the lights and dings?

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

I tried to support them as best i could by "believing them" when I would call. I am convinced they are not working on a replacement unit as I never get my emails returned and phone calls always give the standard "next week or so" answer.

I've been speaking / emailing a person named Keith Rodts since I bought my unit last year.

The last email i sent was on October 29th 2007 where i asked "Any new news of a fix yet?" and he replied on November 26th 2007 with the following.

"with any luck this Friday or early next week. we are waiting for the boards to be finished and then we will be shipping."

I emailed back about 2 weeks later and still no response. If anyone else is bored or needs an email address to send complaints to.. try his... keithrodts@aius.net ... or on second thought, dont bother, he wont reply.

I'd ask for a refund but its been so long i cant find the damn box anymore.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

Mark805,

Everything you have said is exactly the same that I went through, still will not answer his e-mails.

He did tell me that it would have to worked out through the company I purchased through on eBay. They are probably owned By AI.

Only a class action lawsuit would get their attention. We would not get anything out of it, but maybe there are some lawyers out there that may want a few extra bucks. Probably would lose their contract with Hummer that he claimed to have had.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

ok, so I gave up waiting for them to get this junk working correctly...

I ended up on Ebay and for $164 shipped got the USA SPEC PA11-VETTE 2005-07 CHEVY/CADILLAC IPOD ADAPTER. This was for an '07 H2 "with" factory installed XM. If you do not have XM you want just the regular PA-11-GM (NOT Vette).

With the XM you do not need to pull the dash/radio out to hook the wiring to the back. You just hook up the wire to the XM under the glove box and out to the USA Spec. It's literally a 10 minute or less install...

They added a new hybrid mode where you can use both direct and playlist modes, so you can control your ipod by the click wheel and/or steering wheel controls and see the info on the screen. I had the same model years ago and you could only do one or the other. The only thing though if your particular model ipod is too new of firmware, you have to downgrade it to get hybrid to work or you have to use one or the other mode. Not tough to do the downgrade of the ipod btw..

The tech support at USA Spec is fantastic too. Answers the phone every time and will guide you slowly with whatever you need. I didn't get his name but it seems to be the same guy every time, even years back when I called...

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

I talked with AI tech support and was told that they have given up on the X2I. It seem that the company that designed and built it for them has not touch it for months now and is not going to fix it. I was also told that Keith and Victor are gone and that we were not told the right facts. I did get a few deferent units to try early on but after that we were lied to about them still working on a fix. A.I. told me that they are going after the vendor but he will probably close his company down. I was told that if you still have your paper work that you could get a refund.

vlxjim 06-18-2008 12:56 AM

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install

Now that we know that A.I. has given up on us I'm going to give the USA SPEC PA11-VETTE a try as well. I will be posting a new how to with photos on this. I have a unit on it's way and will let everyone know how it go's. The install will be much like the A.I. unit. I have been told by USA-Spec that the USA SPEC PA11-VETTE works great on the H2. But and I know you were waiting for the but there has been some reports that on the H3 (H THREE ONLY) that you can lose your XM connection from time to time. The news from USA-Spec is that some time in October a new and improved unit will be out that will sport new and improved functions and features. It will also have the H3 fix as well. So for now one thing at a time I'll start with the current model and will see and hope for the October release of the new model.
:clapping:

I will be testing with the ipod 3G, iPod Nano, iPod Video, Ipod Touch and iPhone.

I got the USA-Spec part yesterday. It has a note in with the paper work that states that the iPhone and Touch will not work with the new hybrid mode but will work with the two other modes that it has. And if I can not get the older firmware for the other ipods I won't be able to use the new hybrid mode on those either.

So far I can say that the USA-Spec part looks very well made.

I did the install it was just as smooth as before I used a video iPod with firmware 1.2.1 in it. All modes work great so far and I also hooked up the DVD player to the aux input. So it looks like we could have a winner here time will tell. I put a min. of 250 miles on my rig so by the end of the week it will give us some info to go by.

I recant my last statement above, the iPhone does work with it. In my USA spec manuals/paperwork there is no mention of the iPhone. A phone call to C.I (yes that's what he goes by) in tech support reveals I had to have switch #2 in the off position. I then plugged the ipone in and it gave me some message of it being incompatible with this unit, and asked if I wanted to be switched to airplane mode, I clicked no. Everything seems to work fine so far, I even get audio from video files to play through the Bose system, and it also charges the ipone.
