I like how they introduced it so far with some cool off-highway photos, instead of blinged out. Wonder what the NY display will look like?

Re: 2008 H2 - Official Pics & Video
Nice asphalt queen. If I wanted an Escalade I would go out and buy one... other than the rear view mirror with pop out monitor...I don't like it. I like the old interior much better, all things considered, with all the upgrades alot of us have done to our rigs our interiors are in pretty damn great condition along with the Nav and stero upgrades. Cosmetics are okay, but where it really counts is in the suspension and off road handling capabilities, I still see the same old Tie rod, Pitman and idler problems have not been addressed, nor has anything been done to beef up the CV's or spider gears in the front diff. There is a reason COGNITO built the Idler & Pitman support bracket, Fabtech designed a better tierod and Moog built better CV's...it's called a design problem! 6th gear...whoopadee doo...don't care for it. I'll wait until they make a real improvement like an Alpha H2 with an extra 100 hp's so that when the government decides that we should all be running 100% Ethanol the horse power we loose will not be noticed. For crying out loud build a bigger better monster!

That new motor and tranny is an excellent upgrade. I don't know about the other things on your list though, but they're good points. I don't think anyone's mentioned if they've improved those or not. I was talking to a first hand knowledgeable person today and the orange interior in the pictures, isn't going to be that orange. The leather in those rigs is messed up. It should be fixed for the production runs. Again, the 6.2 and six speed is an awesome setup. The deeper first and second gears allow a taller gear ratio. Two mpg increase across the board will be a good deal for H2 sales. We may be buying one. |

Re: 2008 H2 - Official Pics & Video
I think you can get the rearview mirror on any model, not just the LE's. I liked my old setup better with the standalone camera and hitch mounted camera. The camera mount on the one I looked at pointed too low in my opinion.
When looking at the new GM interiors that have come out within the last year, I did not like the change in the seats. I find the old seat design, still in the '07 H2, to be much more comfortable. I like they are trying with the interior but they really need to spend some time on the technology. As was previously mentioned, really need bluetooth. Also could try a little bit harder on the stereo, its a shame to pay 55K or more and to have that poor of sound. Hopefully the new NAV will also be acceptable. Hard to imagine that you can't operate the NAV and listen to a CD at the same time. Almost didn't renew because of the technology. I loved my '03 but the shortfall of very common technology discouraged me. I also echo the desire for the diesel but last I heard was not to expect it before the 2010 model and maybe 2011. That will Be perfect timing to trade my '07. |

Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
Who uses CD's anymore? I don't even understand why aftermarket stereos even come with cd players anymore. Everyone I know uses ipods for music. CD and DVD is great for backing up music, but thats about it.

Well given the H2 comes with an IPOD plug-in, I can see why they wouldn't have a CD player. Maybe in 2008. I could see if you made the statement about casettes but it is a little early to be pushing CD's the way of the 8-track. CD sales a definitely declining but still a few of us hanging out here with the plastic. Even have some vinyl hanging around the house. Sorry to disappoint you but still a few cavemen hanging around out here. Maybe I should look into buying one of those Ipod thingies so I won't be so inadequate. Does a Walkman count? :D |

Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
A hummer tech told me you will be able to get H1's through AM General, but only with the military style interior. He also said they re-designed the hood and cooling systems and added a bilge pump system instead of having to use the plugs to sink them when fording deep water. I dont know if this is ture or not, but he definatley knows what he is talking about when it comes to all Hummers and I doublt he would make all of that up. Suposedly the sent him up to south bend recently and thats where he learned of all this.

I would imagine quite a few still use CDs, or at least everyone I know. Of course I could ask why use an Mp3 or Ipod when you can get a hard drive in the radio head. I have an MP3 for the gym, but I'm satisified with CDs or my Pioneer's internal hard drive. |
Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
I'd rather just have it be able to play mp3 cd's.....then I don't have to go out and buy an ipod....

Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
I like CDs because they don't have to be restored all the time! (Damn ipods!)

Re: 2008 H2 - Official Pics & Video
mechanically, i really like the 08 model. a larger displacement motor with cylinder on demand is a great feature. Also, the stability/yaw control is and the 6 speed trans is a good added feature. Paddle or driver controlled shifts for towing of off-roading sure, why not.
However, the thing i love about my h2 is that it looks like an h2 and "nothing else" being built by am general is great and all. Thus, with the new 08, i really dont like the looks or the way GM has tailored it to look LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE it sells. Your not gonna look at that interior and not see a mix of a tahoe/escalade/silverado. That center section with the polished outline is what almost every other GM has... and that is why i dont like this new model. It seems to have stepped away from what AM G. designed with GM's help to something almost strictly from a GM design department. I see no 'hummer' in that interior, where we spend most of our time.. and that kinda gets to me a bit. Not a complete overkill just not what i excepted. The rear a/c vents and other features are great... they should of just tweaked an interior that says hummer, not GM. EDIT: Well, i will say that the black interior pics are awesome! But not hummer and that sh!t just kinda kills it for me... add some titties to it please!! That is all we need! |
Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
Any news on towing capacity?
The H3 alpha is up to 6,000lbs. Hope the H2 increases as well. (F150 11,000 lbs) |

Even though the H2's built a lot tougher than the F-150, it's heavier, thus lowering it's tow rating. It'll be interesting to see if it goes up. |

Maybe more than 8,000 w/ air. I tow around 9,500 now (06 SUT) from time to time w/o issues on 37's. I by no means endorse or recommend towing this much! There is my dosclaimer.
|
Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
What about the new F350. 24,500 lb towing capasity. If it keeps going up like this soon a F350 will be able to tow more than a FL70.

Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
My sincerest apologies if this has already been addressed, but from the pics that include views of the windshield/rear view mirror, I don't see Rainsense wiper or Intellibeam placements. The first option is very handy on rainy days, the second is great for nightime driving on two-lane highways, and both are currently available on a similarly priced Escalade.

Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
new six-speed Hydra-Matic 6L80 RWD electronically controlled automatic transmission backs the 6.2L engine. The six-speed automatic has a wide, 6.04:1 overall ratio – including two overdrive gears – that helps deliver an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy. Also, the 6L80 has a "tap up/tap down" capability that allows the driver to manually select upshifts and downshifts with a button on the column shifter. The new powertrain combination helps the 2008 H2 and H2 SUT deliver an additional 1,500 pounds (680 kg) in towing capacity – an increase from 6,500 pounds (2,948 kg) to 8,000 pounds (3,629 kg). A host of additional powertrain revisions also contributes to the H2's improved performance and efficiency, including:
But WTF is with the 3.73 rear axle? http://www.gmhummer.com/timeline/2008/2008hummerh2.htm EDIT: LINKY |
Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
6l80e gears:
First: 4.02 Second: 2.36 Third: 1.53 Fourth: 1.15 Fifth: 0.85 Sixth: 0.67 4l60e/4l65e gears: First: 3.06 Second: 1.63 Third: 1.0 Fourth/OD: 0.7 Interesting, no true 1.0 gear, thour fourth is very, very close. With the drop in rear gear ratio with the new trans, it would seem as you are still achieving a lower cruise rpm per same mph with the new trans however, not enough to possible overheat the trans/drivetrain. Also, went through a different set of gear/mph calculators. At 2000rpm, the est. mph in our current truck is about 72ish mph with an est. 35" tire, 4.11 rear and a fourth/od of .7. Now, at 2000rpm with the new setup, est. 35" tire, 3.73 rear with the sixth .67 ratio, that bumps it up to about 83mph. So, your increase cruise speed at a given rpm, however, there MIGHT be a bit more strain on the trans though since it has more gears, it can more evenly spread the load instead of just 4 gears with the original 4l65e. I really like the new powertrain of the 08. Finally GM is getting to something interesting... however, im not to sure on the interior, but i have to see one in person. |
Re: 2008 Hummer H2 - Official Pics & Video
Hey guys new member here!
Currently I own 5 H2's, 4 are 25 passenger limos and previously owned an H1 before the H2's came out. These upgrades for the H2 are the biggest news ever. Even if it only gets 2 MPG thats an increase of 15-20%, that means buying 20% less gas! Thats alot. 3 mpg would be 25-30%. Nobodys excited of an increase of 75 horsepower before any mods? And when cruising getting 25% better gas economy, come on! You guys are crazy!!! Rear vents and extra stuff are good too. Ive been calling my dealer they tell me they dont have pricing on the 08's yet, they have some ordered for stock of the lot but not pricing so you can custom order exactly what options you want. I really hope they have HID lights, how can they not offer this in a $60k+ truck? The escalades are pretty close to the same price and have them standard! ______________________ My car collection: Lamborghini Murcielago (currently) Ferrari 360 Spider Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster Porsche Boxster S (currently) Hummer collection: 2003 Yellow H2, 2 moonroofs, 5 tvs, 22 Inch rims, Corsa exhaust, etc 2005 White Hummer H2 limo with lighted dance floor 25 passenger 2005 White H2 Limo Zebra interior 24 pass 2004 Black H2 Limo 26 pass lighted dance floor 2003 White H2 Limo 24 pass www.FirstClassLimos.net - Cleveland Ohio, Columbus and Pittsburgh ![]() - *NEW* short video of me and my lambo - a list of my car collection |
