Yeah, there is a long thread about this in this forum if you scroll down a bit.

They both have thier strenghts and weaknesses, but from a purely offroad standpoint, the Rubi is hard to beat.

1997 Grand Cherokee TSi
It's got some lift, skids, and rock rails, among other things.

Mike,

A dealer near me has 2 on the lot. One 5-speed, the other auto. Both loaded with all options, just different transmisions.
I drove the 5-speed Fri, but dealer said no off-road..until you buy it. Sand dunes next to the dealership and he wouldn't let me get off the pavement.. I know Rubi was not built with sand dunes in mind, rather rock crawling, but sometimes you gotta go where you can.

I see a couple of Rubi's in the dunes from time to time playing around..not many obstacles to put them to the real challenge. Some of the TJ guys act as if they're not too impressed with the Rubi. I guess there's a little resentment.

Ever since I drove the Rubi I keep getting the urge to go back to dealer, and I didn't even get it off-road. The salesman called Sat,Sun and today, Mon. Now if I can just hide for a few more days.

With summer weather already here would be nice to put the top down and play in a Rubi. I love the H2 and could never replace it with anything else, buttt...I would sure like to have one of those Rubi's too.

DiscoDancingRover 05-06-2003 01:13 AM

I am sorry but you are trying to compare apples to oranges. These are two completely different vehicles in different classes. I am sorry but they have their own places in there class. It is like comparing a ford to a mercedes-benz, they just are not in the same catagory. And what is the best 4x4xfar, i only know of a Land Rover.

buddy 05-06-2003 09:22 AM

Chris,

I'm not trying to compare the Rubi against the H2..no way. Two different vehicles, with the H2 being more practical for me. Just saying it would be nice to have a Rubi...in addition.

buddy

DiscoDancingRover 05-06-2003 10:52 AM

I would rather take a defender 90 than a J**P!!!

Mike97ZJ 05-06-2003 12:25 PM

D90's are awesome, except for the fact that you can buy and build two Jeeps for the price of one stock D90.

Hummer Man 05-06-2003 03:52 PM

I think the JEEP wrangler or Jeep Rubicon Wrangler makes a nice second car for any off-road player. I have a 2000 Wrangler Sahara and other then real bad cargo space it is a very fun car. But let's face it a Hummer H2 it is not!!

DiscoDancingRover 05-06-2003 09:09 PM

Mike you can get a D-90 for about 20k, I have seen one or two for sale at about 18k.

Mike97ZJ 05-07-2003 11:12 AM

WOW, that's cheap for a D90. It must just be the area I'm in then. Last D90 I saw for sale was a 97 and they wanted like 35k for it.

I figure you can buy and build to used TJ's for that, EASY.

I'd seriously consider a D90 over a TJ if I could find one for that price though.

DiscoDancingRover 05-07-2003 08:19 PM

I actually found one for sale in TEN or Ken for about 15k

I thionk a comparo betwwen a Rubi and A H2 is stupid.
The Rubi and H2 have differnt design targets
where one would win it would stomp the other
plus look at the difference in price
the Rubi is a 4x4 platform that has a few accesories
the H2 is a nicely dressed out suv that can 4x
you see jeeps all over the trails , some with killer mods and the guys with them are do carnage because they have a great 4x4 platform and another vehicle for a daily driver at home
After paying in the high 40s for a H2, and then the mods to make it go places the jeeps are moded for, you are trying to junk major money.

Everyone in both communities wants to trash each other, bottom line is they are not even in the same class.
I will trash my 18 g jeep with 9 grand of suspension and drivetrain upgrades, but my 51 g hummer isn't going there

Yea but for a $8,000 investment I have a low milage (62,000) 97 TJ 6cyl auto with 6 1/2 inches of lift, 33" BFG Mud Terrians (could fit 35") Lockers, full skids, winch, belly up conversion (underbody raised so it's tucked in the frame), ford 8.8 rear, tons more stuff...they are both capable off roaders...I don't know why the land rover guys all ways feel the need to put down a jeep...heel wasn't Land rovery made to copy a jeep years ago?
Ps at $8,000 I don't feel bad if I dent it.

I have both. The two couldn't be more different. Rubi is far more nimble off road. H2 is better in a foot of snow. Rubi (top down) is nicer in summer. H2 is a better all around (cargo, luxury). Both stink at gas mileage, though nothing compares to the H2 in this regard.

Rubiconman 08-13-2005 10:48 AM

Rubicon vs H2? you got to be kidding. The H2 is a very nice mall vehicle, with a 4wd option... the rubicon on the other hand is the best factory 4wd vehicle made, hands down.

PARAGON 08-13-2005 11:03 AM

Nice articulation

Rubiconman 08-13-2005 11:08 AM

With the front sway bar disconnected its has alot, but this isn't a big deal ... since its has LOCKERS front and back .... take that hummer guru

frank6150 08-13-2005 05:26 PM

Wow you are the bomb!

So let's see the rest of the pics where you backed down, wiped the poop from your panties and drove home. It's either that or the next pic would be of your rig laying on its roof.

Rubiconman 08-13-2005 10:33 PM

Dewd...I do this with my eyes closed, anything else you would like to see?..

frank6150 08-13-2005 10:44 PM

I'm still waiting for the pic of you accomplishing that hill.

Rubiconman 08-13-2005 10:56 PM

Tell ya what ... i'm going out tomorrow to the same place ... ill snap some more pics for ya... stay tuned bones.
EDIT: Oh... by chance you have any pics of yer Hummer that aren't in front of the mall? I like to see what i'm up against.

Rubis are fun to wheel with. Just make sure to bring a strap.

Rubiconman 08-13-2005 11:45 PM

You will notice that the hummer is on the before side of the hole.
Edit: .. or is the Jeep towing the hummer?

Hmmmm... Since the Rubi is stuck in deep water and I didn't feel like laying on the hood of the 1200 mile old Rubi I straddled the water and stood on the rear tire to get a hook up. Also, smartass, there's a nice big tree leaning over the water to the right of where the picture was taken.

Are we resorting to the use of profanities?, I can think of a few less offensive words...smartypants, smart alec ...bighead just to name a few.
Edit: Nice avatar by the way.

If you're saying your SHORT wheelbase will outclimb our LONG wheelbase. Then you are doing a bang up job of making yourself look.....Well, your posts speak for themselves.

Definitely the Rubicon is the BEST stock Jeep out of the box......For Jeep.

The pictures you just posted are considered, "YAWNERS" here though. Old, easy, challenging if you are a noob.

I was expecting extreme. Not extremely boring. Oh well.

Thanks for posting anyways....

Got any of your own?

Rubiconman 08-14-2005 02:27 AM

Oh wait .. I found some H2 pics, see how the light reflects off the paint. Reel purdy.
EDITED: for size

And this one ... see how the stripes on the building compliment the grill?

Ok .. I did actually find a pic of an H2 doing something constructive.

Sorry honey,

You could have come here a better way. But you've been exposed as a offroad newbie wannabe bull****ter.

You have no credibility here. Buh-Bye.

P.S. Really dumb of you to post your licence plate.
