alright guys, my next project to complete will be to linex the bottom half of the truck and to paint my air cleaners black. This pic shows the chrome rims but those are off on saturday and will be the black KMC rockstars. What do you think? To give myself an idea, I colored in the areas that will change on the truck using the editor pencil. let me know!

frank6150 03-01-2006 06:39 PM

Are you planning on putting something under the line-x or directly on the paint? You couldn't pay me to put it on the paint itself.

I think it will look good though.

bigolH2 03-01-2006 06:45 PM

what are you supposed to put under it? the guys didnt say anything about under it.

I'm just saying on the body like that I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. On a grill or those air covers I wouldn't care cause they are relatively inexpensive to replace.

If you don't like the line-x and it's covering that much of the body of the truck you are gonna spend some big cash repairing it later. I would sooner use some sort of thin stainless and have it cut and bent to size and line-x over that and use something to adhere it to the truck.

Just my opinion though, don't let me make you think twice if it's what you want. No matter how you do it it's gonna look good.

bigolH2 03-01-2006 06:57 PM

True, but im thinking once its on there, its on there. no matter what. ive seen other trucks with it done and it looked tough.

Ipedog 03-01-2006 07:06 PM

I'm with Frank here. It should look good, but you had better be really, really sure thats what you want, because its NOT comming off without a fight.

HummBob 03-01-2006 07:25 PM

My concern would be how it would look in such a LARGE area. Remeber that Line-X has a kinda textured look to it.

H2Buff 03-01-2006 09:52 PM

Ive seen the line-x on a pickup. Looked like sheat after a couple of months. Nobody will see if you paint your air cleaner cover since its under the hood.

Boss Hoss 03-01-2006 11:00 PM

While the look may be what you are looking for, i personally would be more likely to go with somethign not so permanent....perhaps vinyl to make the bottom look like it was painting back or something on that level--doesnt matter though, its your truck and you can do as you please.

KenP 03-01-2006 11:03 PM

We're thinking about going all the way to the angle under the windows if we do it using the same idea as the skins.

frank6150 03-01-2006 11:17 PM

Would you make it be somehow removeable Ken? That would be the only way I would do it.

Not removeable like you can take it off anytime you please but at least not be permanent.

mstams 03-01-2006 11:32 PM

Anyone ever look into covering the paint with a clear bedliner application? Someone once mentioned to me that it had been done before and worked out pretty well. I thought it sounded cool but never looked into it.

Alan06SUT 03-02-2006 01:17 AM

Remember that Linex fades real bad in the sun, especially if you get it in colors.

HummBob 03-02-2006 01:24 AM

Just Paint It Black (as the Rolling Stones would say)

cow boy 03-02-2006 02:03 AM

bigilH2, I am going to do too if I get dents or scratches on the side, mine will be black on black the fading part would be bad though. I have seen it done on a dark color lexus it looked fine hid all the dents and rock scratches. If you dont need the LineX just have it paited black.

dochummer 03-02-2006 02:35 AM

Reminds me of....

It would be permanent.

tomp 03-02-2006 02:49 AM

I wouldn't do it any place but on the grill and mirror caps on that nice lookin' rig!

DRTYFN 03-02-2006 06:03 AM

The painted surface has to be prepped by sanding it and a primer applied for proper adhesion. IMO, the white rig would look cool with the black accents. If I were to do it, I'd go up just past the indentations. Bumpers would really set that rig off.

Uhm. No we're not.

Line-X is addicting.

A story about a fully line-xed Cherokee

bigolH2 03-02-2006 11:23 AM

yah, im workin on it. thanks!

bigolH2 03-02-2006 11:27 AM

on a lex? that doesnt sound right? its not that i need it linexed, i just htink it would look bad ass and keep the branches and things from tearin up my sides as it seems to me that all trails are made for jeeps.

bigolH2 03-02-2006 11:28 AM

I heard that, but my buddy said hes got a protective coat that keeps it from doing so.

bigolH2 03-02-2006 11:30 AM

No no no, the air cleaner covers. And if you take care of the linex properly, it wont look like sheat. My truck is my son, well taken care of!

bigolH2 03-02-2006 11:32 AM

It is a large area, but if you saw how it looked on the pic i took and drew it on I dont think it looked bad at all. It will run in line with the bumpers on the back so it wont look like it just came from no where.

bigolH2 03-02-2006 11:34 AM

I understand that, im putting some pretty good thought into it. I like the fact that it will be somewhat more original too.

La.Swamp Lobster 03-02-2006 12:20 PM

Hey BigolH2,
I kinda like it!, but would also consider just having it painted blk. instead of using the liner. My bother has a white GMC painted like that, and it is one sharp trk. I'm sure what ever you do, it will look great!

bigolH2 03-02-2006 12:26 PM

Preciate it buddy. I think it will look sharp as well. I like to be original so this should top it.

Too late. Others have already done it.

bigolH2 03-02-2006 01:45 PM

Well no ****, but none that ive seen and theyre few and far between.

HummBob 03-03-2006 07:11 AM

Just PLEASE, Don't Do This

YIKES

OrangeCrush 03-03-2006 09:55 AM

Though I understand the reasoning behind it, I'm not sure I'd want to spray my H2 with Linex down the sides.

I think you'd be better off getting some sort of clear gravel guard sprayed on there. When we repair the sides of vehicles before we paint them, we use gravel schultz. You can paint over it or leave it on clear.

Point is, at least if you put it on and repainted over it, it would just be textured but still in white.

My .02 worth.

Mark

bigolH2 03-03-2006 11:26 AM

the thing is that its not only for protection, its also for the black tough look it will give it.

bigolH2 03-03-2006 11:27 AM

Whoever did that to their H3, is a dumbass. I wouldnt even think of doing that unless it was being made into a safari vehicle in teh middle of the African Desert.

No Sh-it LOOSER

RFox 03-05-2006 01:29 PM

Remember, the Line-X goes on at about 350 degrees, so I would wonder what it might do to the paint next to where you masked off for the coating. I wouls just go ourt and purchase some of the black billet parts that are available, (marker light covers, fuel door, door panel inserts, etc) and that will look great with your new rims.

cow boy 03-05-2006 01:49 PM

It will go no just fine they due it to truck beds allday long, no problem to paint on bed rail.

Funny, 15K+ for a damn zebra paint job! Theres a disco here locally has the same damn paint job, the guys a large animal vet.

Back on topic now....I still think it will look awesome on your rig Big!

bigolH2 03-06-2006 11:31 AM

for the little effects those give the truck, they cost way too much. Id rather go big and use linex! im not worried about hte other paint though because like someone else said; they do it to trucks beds all day which have paint everywhere.
