Sut Guards are a pain in the back side to keep attached to the body.
Would not even bother to put them on.

mstams 12-06-2005 07:40 PM

When I had my SUT, the taillamp guards would not stay attached. It was a real pain.

partsguy -- Do you know if there is a new design with holes/screws? I know the guards on the Pacific Blue limited editions have screws, but I thought I saw some the other day on a regular truck that had screws as well.

Are they self-tapping or is drilling required?

partsguy 12-06-2005 08:01 PM

Drill........

VTSTOMPER 12-06-2005 08:46 PM

no more 3M DST. Oh well - drill the buggers!

Mr. I - Man 12-06-2005 09:15 PM

don't know maybe boogers.???

I believe they were drilled . The stealership did them.

VTSTOMPER 12-06-2005 09:30 PM

yep!

partsguy 12-07-2005 10:08 AM

The damn Sut's are shaped strange and put pressure on the DST side of the guard.
They pop off all the time.
Drill and screw
What a thing to say here,...........

TXSUT 12-07-2005 11:23 AM

The guards I have use existing screws and require no drilling.

Are you talking about the existing screws on the interior of the tailgate? All of them have these. We're talking about the outside attachment that previously used double-sided tape.

Yes, my misunderstanding.

VTSTOMPER 12-07-2005 05:10 PM

TXSUT,

Are your's factory? I assume they are...

No, they came from H2 Source (if I recall correctly).

VTSTOMPER 12-07-2005 05:20 PM

ok, I was checking them out in your "GOBI pics" and liked the look of them. I remember them having more cross bars than the factory ones.

TXSUT 12-07-2005 06:28 PM

Yeah, they have one more cross bar than the factory guards, which are more in line with the separations of the bulb chambers than these are.

GLBLWARMR 12-07-2005 09:48 PM

I had the same problem with mine. They were going off about every two weeks. I cleaned the area with alcohol and sanded the portion where the double sided tape attached to the guard and then cleaned it with alcohol. I used the heavy duty 3M double sided tape and they have held for the last month and do not show any signs of coming lose.

TXSUT 12-08-2005 05:58 PM

Are you guys talking about the whole guard coming off, or just the doube-sided tape?

Just the double sided tape side since the other side is bolted in on the inside of the tailgate.

Thanks. That's what I wanted to believe, but with comments like...

GLBLWARMR 12-08-2005 09:03 PM

The biggest problem with the guards is they used a really flimsy piece of metal on the side that bolts to the body. If you had used a more rigid piece of metal you would not have to use 3m tape at all. You would only have to use a space/bumper as a cushion so it would not bang against the paint.
