I've read about the small windows hindering driver visibility, especially when backing up. I'm wondering if this is something that those of you who've been driving the H3 for a while are getting use to or becoming acclimated to..??

I like not being as visible.

I wasnt aware of such a problem. I have yet to backup over anyone or anything but if it should occur I am happy to know i have a locker to ensure I will overcome the obstacle. =P

A lot of us have rear cameras and Hitchcams (not the type used in porno movies). Another alternative is to never use your reverse gear.

This could be a fun thread to watch.

Never really bothered me much but have gotten used to the limited visibility.
Paragon, you are now a troll? You have got to have the most posts of any troll that has ever been here. Very possibly all other trolls combined ![]() |
The little frensel lenses that fit on the rear window do great and if you add wide-angle small outside mirrors your in fat city, as well as a lot less expense then rear view camera system.

It really doesn't bother me, especially since I live in a rural area BUT, I find that I park defensively so I can pull forward as much as possible instead of backing up. I learned this years ago with the Vehicross which has much worse vision to the rear (similar to a panel van). If I go to a mall or large parking area, I pull forward through two spots, to a spot I can drive straight out of. If I go to a friends house, I park in the street instead of having to back out of a driveway- I'm so used to it now, I don't even think about it, and do it automatically.

I agree with HummerJim's comments. I do the same. You need to understand the first thing you hit will be with your spare tire so make sure you understand how far it is behind the window. |

The visability is definitely hindered compared to other SUVs I've owned and/or driven. There are a lot of blind spots with the H3. You become aware of them and compensate. The little round convex spot mirrors attached to the side-view mirrors help a little. I just installed a rear-view backup camera. It helps a little to see what you might ordinarily run over. But to me it's more novelty/gadget than anything else. I figured it will help my wife when she drives. it. You get used to it after a while. BTW... this is obviously an unmoderated forum. You are going to get all kinds of responses to your questions. Sift through the ones that help and ignore the rest. Just my .02... |
Actually the H3 visibility is no worse than my 02 Corvette was. And I would say its better than some of the other sports cars too. Although it is limited and not a round glass bubble, it is not the worst either.
|
Does this question have a purpose, or are we just shooting the **** here? I can see more than enough to allow me to drive. If I can't, then oh well...people will move when I merge into their lane or start backing up into them.
If you are really looking for something with poor visibility, my vote goes for the Countach, get that. |
yeah just dont use ur backup/reverse gear! if ur at that mall parking lot, when ur leaving just go straight. You wont feel anything anyway.
Sometimes i feel like i dont even care which lane im in, whichever unforunate car that crosses my path is well... going to be underneath me. However, once i woke up to the scent of a suv. The scent was powerful becasue it woke me up while driving. I normally never wake up, so i assumed it was another h3 who was also sleeping at the wheel. In that case out of mutual respect we would both vair out of eachothers way, but it wasnt an H3. but an H2 i was a little shocked becasue the driver was awake, but angry that i was crossing his path. So we played chicken. I always win in chicken. The next day the same driver drove by me while I was at the bus stop. |
you sound like a bad driver

Bad driving=high insurance cost. Better him than me.

I ordered one of those Rear View Safety Lenses (www.rearlens.com) and it really makes a huge difference. It's obviously not as good as installing a camera, but for $25 you can't go wrong. The difference is like night and day.
|
It's hard to see out the back window but I have found this I use my side mirrors alot more.
|
I find the convex mirrors help quite a bit, but backing is still dubious. Having to back my H2 and my wife's H3 out of the same driveway, I can say the H2 is much, much easier to back out, just because the windows are larger.

Hitchcam works great on my H3. $1100 installed but cheaper than crashing into things.

I don't think the visibility or lack thereof is a major issue. In reverse you just have to go a little bit slower constantly checking all four corners as you go, something you should be doing anyway. I end up backing into parking spots, in time you get the feel for judging distance with the mirrors... its a learning curve unnerving at firt but made easier if you have decent spacial judgement and practice. Driving this thing is not like driving any other vehicle and so initially it may feel a little ackward and out of your comfort zone. Its definately not a car... but I don't think it drives like a truck either... though it is much more like my F-150 than the camaro I had

Getting used to = becoming acclimated to
& Becoming acclimated to = Getting used to (It means the same thing!) It's not a yes AND no question... It's a yes OR no question. Personally... I think the answer is obvious. |
And the question is? Oh yea, visibility. Judging by the number of posts about people backing up and hitting things indicates some problem.
S. |
Like it was said before. You must adjust to any car/truck.
I've added the Fresenal Lens on the rear window and the 2 wide angle outside little mirrors and it imporves it 90%, BUT even before adding $30 worth of stuff I still drove defenceivily. Spend $1100 and you still have to go slow and look no matter what you drive, UNLESS OF COURSE you bought you licence at SEARS or Are an ILLEGEL IMMEGRENT !!! RYD |
