How Much!! 09-30-2004 05:58 PM

I was looking at an 05 H2 with the navigation system today and I was surprised to learn that there is only a single DVD/CD drive. Thus, when using the navigation system you can’t play a CD and the other way around!

Thus, on long trips when you need your nav system, forget about playing CDs. What’s the deal with that?

Are there any good after market CD players/changer that will integrate tightly with this system so you can have the Nav DVD in and working all of the time, and still play CDs?

I couldnt beleive it when I saw that also. I bought the 05 White lux without the nav. The sales guy said they have been installing a 6 disc changer where the Onstar goes..

I had the FX45 before the H2, And the FX had it all I don't miss the nav. to much but will buy something nav. in the future for the H2.

Another chance to post my changer pic!

I junked the OnStar and wired in the Escalade's external CD player in its place. I can now play CDs while the NAV is active.

In the picture, notice "CDX D1 T23" is displayed on the NAV screen. The changer is controlled by the NAV unit and the steering wheel controls, and it works perfectly.

What about remote changers, something that's under the seat or in the middle console?

You could mount the GM Changer I have under the seat, and use an extended cable to connect it. I'm not sure if it would play OK if mounted vertically, so you are on your own for testing that.

There are aftermarket adapters that allow you to use other brands of changers, but they have a checkered history of problems. If you do a search on this site for Soundgate or PAC you will come up with a lot of info.

I prefer to stick with GM parts if I can. So far, no compatibility problems doing it my way.

Call Reeves Hummer in Tampa and ask for Chris Ward in accessories.
There is no name brand on the changer but they are getting them from a supplier in New Jersey.

Maybe the 2006 models will get the same nav as the Corvette C6 - very nice...

"Sound System with Navigation
New for 2005, an available navigation system with Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) is displayed in the center of the instrument panel. The system is DVD-based and one disc contains all of the map data for the 48 contiguous United States and most of Canada. An audio CD player is hidden behind the navigation screen that also doubles as the AM/FM Bose audio system and is controlled through touch-screen technology. The navigation system also includes voice-activation technology that can trigger a hands-free system search. For example, you may want to search for restaurants in the area. Simply press “Push to Talk,” then say “I’m hungry.” The navigation screen will then display restaurants in the area, and route guidance directions will be projected in the Head-Up Display in street mode."

Also wouldn't mind the keyless entry...

If the above is good enough for Chevy (and already in the GM parts bin) why not for Hummer....

I have a '04 Caddy CTS. It has 2 slots - top for the nav dvd and bottom for 6 cd's. And it has XM. The best part - it's $10,000 cheaper then my H2!

My dealer Reeves Hummer in Tampa installed a 6 disc changer under the middle rear seat. It works with the Nav and steering wheel controls. Love it!

What about playing DVDs on the nav? I am looking at a pewter SUT with nav and want to add TVs and the usual stuff. I'm not sure where a multi DVD changer would fit under the seat, but we'll see.

Are you able to play DVDs on the nav unit, I guess is my only question.

No, the factory NAV systems cannot play DVD movies.

Thanks, Klaus.

Can you play DVDs Through the factory NAV? If I install an aftermarket DVD player, can I do that and the camera through the NAV?

What part of Atlanta are you in? I'm in Alpharetta. I'm looking to lease from Marietta Hummer. They seem to be very easy to deal with...

PAC makes an adapter to allow a factory NAV to work with a backup camera. I don't know if it will work as a TV screen, however.

Call PAC and see what they say:

Thanks again, Klaus.

I followed the link and I think I need the GM2 model which is not yet released. With that unit, I would imagine that if I can get video for the camera, I can get video for DVD. Looks like the factory NAV is the best way to go to start everything.

Check with the folks at www.navtv.com and see if they have anything that will work.

I looked at the PAC unit and it only has a video in , but no audio, how could you hook up a DVD player?
