Guys, I want to add a Gobi or Manik full rack to my white 2003 H2. I really like the look and think it will add convenience.

The prob is the wife DOES NOT like the look. She kind of thinks they look ugly and can't see any function. I tell her for camping we can just throw the luggage and misc **** up there and strap it down, but we live in Vancouver where it rains a lot so she says that is not feasible.

For those with the racks, what did your significant other say? How did you finally convince them this rack is the right way to go?

Thanks

You're kidding right?

When I bought the SUT I handed my wife a pic of one and said "Look what I just bought".

Say goodbye to parking in the garage.
I have to use it. When my kids fight, up they go, and I don't have to hear it anymore.

NJ H2 02-04-2006 02:58 PM

Yeah!! When I won my GOBI rack I showed my wife the email that said I won and she was like "OK"

The wife really didn't go in the garage back then, so she didn't even notice the for days. "Just somethin' for the truck, babe". Then, BAM, it was the truck.

Adam in CO 02-04-2006 04:35 PM

We're kidding here, right? Let's see. On one hand, we have the very best H2 accessory on the planet. And on the other hand we have a giant chrome jungle gym. Yeah, it's a tough call.

When GOBI and Manik first released their products at SEMA (2003) I went into the Manik booth and I guess I insulted the owner somehow. He proceeded to tell me how he had been making racks and ladders for motor homes since before I was born, and I said "Yup. That's exactly what it looks like. A rack for a phucking motor home."

Enough said.

Phil and I have a very cordial and friendly e-relationship. If you truly feel the need to interject yourselves into my comments to him, delete my posts, and follow me around like dogs sniffing my @$$ posting, "Liar liar!" feel free to do so. It amuses me.

Lot's of folks are watching and cringing as you make fools of yourselves. Carry on.

Promise your wife you won't put one on her car.

It's YOUR rig, right?

Sorry your wife doesn't like the rack. Mine thought it looked really cool and dug it!

drmiles 02-04-2006 08:30 PM

Just tell her to go in the house and cook supper(or shutup and get me a beer). That will change the whole subject and she won't care about the rack any longer.

dna 02-04-2006 08:44 PM

Thanks for the suggestions. So if I understand, I should connect with a good back hand and tell her to shut up and go cook dinner after first getting me a beer. I'll let you know how things work out this weekend.

Does anyone have a more strategic plan. Sure I can just buy and install it, though then she will hold this against me when she blows hugh bucks on something stupid like jewelry. I'd rather convince her that the rack is a good idea. I personally don't see too much functionality and only like the looks - she hates the look.

For those with one on, do you really find it practical or did you only buy it for the look?

timgco 02-04-2006 10:32 PM

My S.O. has one on her rig. So do I. Very functional!

KenP 02-05-2006 12:11 AM

Why don't you get HER a RACK, then you can get yours and actually have TWO RACKS.

If I were to get her a rack... than I'd have four racks.
