Ok guys, these first pictures in the garage at night may not be that great, but here goes.
I tried to find some spray tint in the auto parts shops, and found none. I talked to a few people and I also remember using tint for model cars in the past so I went to the local hobby shop, and they only had one can left. They said there are many people buying this stuff to black out lights... So, I tried it. Here are a few pictures, I will let you know if anything crazy happens, and I will also take more pictures in the light tomorrow morning. By the way, what the hell is the deal with this site? We seam to be slacking some? |

Here is another inside the house. I don't know how many coats I used, but I'd say at least 8.
Interesting -- how do they look on the truck?

Here they are in the AM
Looks good -- Did it turn out like you wanted?
Wow, that is really nice, the lights seem to almost blend with the black plastic at the top.

What do they look like with the parking light on? Brake lights? Blinkers?
Are these legal or is this one of those "do at your own risk" things? Looks VERY GOOD! And I really want to do it to both my H3 and my Tahoe. |
I had my wife hit the brakes at night, and it was perfectly bright. As far as the daytime, I have not checked. I will take some more pics later and let you know!
Those look great

That looks good, but I really want to see the daytime brake pics.
Thank you for the compliments!
I just picked up some chairs at the furniture store, and the man there was checking out the H3 he really liked it. He said "I really like the way they blacked out the lights!" That was cool! |
Guess that tells you that you did a good job

I had to put this in here, this is RETARDED looking!!! LOL |
That looks great, I think you're going to start a trend!!! Let everyone know if the brake lights are visible in the daylight.
WAY TO BE CREATIVE...$13, the aftermarket companies hate guys like you!!!! |

here they are with the markers on.

The marker light looks purple in the last pic. Is that an illusion due to the flash?
The flash... Although purple is cool!
That looks real good tinted out. Is that legal in all states? new jersey in particular?
What about legality issues in Texas?
Not sure of the legality... I figures I would try the "it came like that" routine if I was ever pulled over!
Looks great. BUT, if you're in an accident, enjoy the lawsuit...

The brakes are clearly visable even during the daytime guys. I have seen hundreds of cars ad trucks even darker than this here in AZ. And I have no family so that is not an issue...
very cool, but do they really smoke too

Some states will ticket you, and my legal side of the brain makes me worry about liability if someone hit me, and went so far as to prove the light output were not up to Federal standards. But they do look good.
not worth the saftey risk (guess im old)
H3 buyer to be, give me an update on the tailights. Did you spray the inside or the outside of the lense? If it's the outside, does it seem to scratch off?
It's hard to tell from the pictures but what kind of finish is this? Glossy? Semi? and also how easy to get scratched. I remenber tinting my Vw windows by spraying liquid tint but that would get scratched pretty easy. Regarding getting a citation from the "MAN"...here in California they'll give a ticket for any light modification such as: blacking out with tape or spray, blue light bulbs, red bulbs. Liability, don't worry about rear end collisions with that big tire hanging on the back, they will bounce out as fast as they came in...My overall opinion, perform any modification that your heart desire...it's only a fix-a-ticket, just make sure you can remove this tint when you go to sign off your citation...good luck..good job.
Oh I forgot, It wolud look much better in a dark color vehicle (Black). Any pictures, I know Ely was doing it in his H3.
Yeah I'm still waiting on this for 3 reasons:
A) The legallities... I drive mostly in Beverly Hills where the police is so bored that 3 police cars will pull one car over for the stupidest things, and my exhaust already draws enough attention. B) My parent's are giving me that whole "don't waste any more money on your car" story. C) I would love an aftermarket light (like this: tail lights) which would give an original look while also being legal... what you guys think? |
