If you notice your keys banging into dash while accelerating or braking, I found an easy fix. Purchase a sticky pad by Handstands @ brookstone. Cut pad into small square an place on dash @ impact area. This material is spongy with a tacky non-adhesive backing. Check out http://www.handstands.com for pads or gadget grips(pre-cut squares).

That only works if you carry the H2 key separate from any other keys you have. While I'm not a key hound (I only have a few other keys on the ring), I like to keep all my keys together...if nothing more than to occasionally give me a sharp jab to the g'nads when I sit down, not

is the problem the noise or possible scratches to the dash? scratches add character, and the volume buttons on the steering wheel or stereo eliminate the noise. i recommend Motorhead to completely eliminate all squeaks and rattles.

The noise. My keys band the dash incessantly. Being moderately OCD, it drives me nuts. My wife doesn't notice.

Volume control would be an option...when I drive by myself, but if kiddo or wife are in the truck, that's not an option.

The padding on the dash mostly cures the problem. Instead of a loud clack, clack, clack, you get a much quieter thud, thud, thud that has fewer high frequencies to it and is easier for me to tune out.

BTW, it's not just during accel/decel for me. It's any time driving on uneven road, which is pretty much anywhere.

It's been a long time since this subject has come up and the fixes are always the same.

Did I read something about a pad?

This truck will be drving you nuts if you keep it for more than a couple of years then </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

yeah I know. At 2 1/2 years old it already has plenty of noises.

I haven't owned any car that didn't drive me nuts, though.

I've managed to learn a coping technique called "enjoy being nuts."

At the risk of appearing to be a French wank sympathizer, cest la vie.

I don't like Motorhead either. But we all like a lot of other 80's rock and metal.

It's the volume the wife and kiddo don't approve of.

i found that Motorhead, while not being to everyone's taste, is the best at drowning out all clunks, rattles, squeaks and wind noise on a far more consistent basis. no chance of a quiet ballad coming up and allowing distracting noises to make it to your ear. and it leaves your ears ringing for a while, keeping you sane between tracks

Ah. You need to pick up some progressive rock stuff (Dream theater is my recommendation) where they do a lot of 10-20 minute tracks.

mstams 12-15-2005 05:11 PM

Just keep trading. That's my solution.

I think I can hear someones bushings squeaking. Hmmm. Yep, I can hear it.

those would be mine, they're ready to disintegrate again.

Spike 12-15-2005 07:27 PM

I also have a fix for the remote banging....I superglued the key remote to the steering column and now it doesn't bang anymore....of course I have to leave the truck running constantly, but hey it was worth it!

Keeping your keys on a valet key fob works well also. You can keep vehicle keys separate from house or other keys, and if they start hitting the dash, just remove the lower half.

Also, this way you don't have to shut the truck off to run back in to pick up what you forgot...it's a blonde thing!
