Here's a question, I went out to a mud hill, (pretty steep) about 30 feet long from bottom to top, I put it in 4 high and gunned it, about half way up the Hummer really started to bog down, I expected a rooster tail of mud to be shooting out the rear, I eventually crawed to the top which no other 4 wheeler could but I expected more power, of all the button options would of there been a better one to go up a mud hill? (4 low, lock the rear end?) like I said it really bogged down.

Tires ?????
did you have it in 1st gear?
You probably broke a tie rod. Sometimes that slows you down a bit.
Put it in 4Hi Locked and hit the TC2 button.

I already had it in 4 high and just gunned it, have stock bfg's on it. the question I have is does the tranny system on the Hummer keep the wheels from spinning somehow, so it would seem to bog down since I was in mud?
Oh I forgot to say I had it in 4Hi locked
Before you went up the hill was the alignment checked?
![]() Smart assed comments aside... Towards the top of the hill it shouldn't be crawling. I have no trouble spinning wheels the whole way up to the top.... Something doesn't sound right if it was barely crawling along. |
Doesn't "Steep Hill" generally mean that 4-Lo is ideal? Extra power to haul that heavy ass truck up a hill?
![]() |
4 low is probably the ideal yes... but even in first I'd be surprised if the truck was struggling at a crawl.
I guess we're just going to have to do some field testing. Paragon anyone? |

Traction control.
Mark |
If you did not have the TC2 button on then the traction control (as OrangeCrush stated) would have taken over and applied brake pressure to the spinning tire(s) thus it would seem to 'crawl'.
Next time use either 4H lock, or 4L lock and select TC2 button.. |
Thanks for this Info Phil... I was unaware that the brake activated slightly would deactivate the TC... EXCELLENT info, Thanks!
The traction control will barely let the tires spin. TC 2 will let them spin more. The locker will help you crawl up the hill with even less effort (the button with the X between the wheels).
Thanks guys, I thought it might be the traction control, I'm used to my other 4-wheelers I've had where you push 4Hi a punch it and spin the tires all the way up the hill, next time I'll try TC2 and down shift if needed. To make you proud my Hummer was the only truck out of 6 that made it up the mud hill, as I was going up it I heard a few of the other truck owners yelling I have a $55,000 piece of sh%$, guess I had the last laugh since they couldn't make it. I watched them drive away with their tails between their legs. HeHe, (Hummer 1, others 0)

Nice bro! These trucks are the real deal. Did you have the locker on?
what do you mean by the locker?
I thought you could only lock the rear in low range?
