Just made an appt for some misc warranty work and oil change. Service manager says it should have had major service at 30k all fluids changes axles transfer case etc. he says it about $1400. Does this sound right? Is all of it needed?

I'd say $1,400 is a good value for checking/adding axle fluid, rotating tires, and replacing the fuel and air filters. I paid $20k for someone to rotate my tires alone once. |
I'd say 2 hours at 100/hour= $200 to do the service at a dealer.
Parts may be $100, so call it $300 total. No fluid change necessary. |
sorry but from a technicians point of view.you are going to give your 50.000.00 truck to a tech school graduate at an outside shop. good luck. not to mention it builds credibility with the dealer if you ever need that good willed part.and believe me ive seen these trucks come in on the hook because they forgot to tighten drain plgs and all kinds of other stuff.in my eyes 1400.00 is nothing when it comes to the safety of yourself and your family.

That seems high. A 12k service on an h1 is less than that.
|
Make sure they're not trying to sell you some kind of injector flush/trans flush/power steering fluid conditioner type snake oil combination of services. If you read all the fine print at the back of the 'periodic checks and services' section of the owner's manual and have them done, the MOST you should pay is $750-$800.

Rich , Do it yourself. About $50. for air filter, and $20. for fuel filter. You can do these during a commercial instead of heading to the fridge. And i know you can rotate the tires. If you need step by step help, you can get it here. But dont give someone $1400. For 1hours work. Doug

By the way--in 2004 models GM moved the fuel filter into the fuel tank(don't replace usually)
|
Oh , didnt know that. Never heard of such a thing. Thought all fuel filters were still on the frame.
|
I also say do it yourself. Be as proud to work on it as you do driving it. I hate people touching my stuff, thats why I have learned to do everything myself.
|
For $1,400.00 I hope your geting kissed for that price.

I have got to bring mine in for 30k service and I was quoted by the dealer to change tranny, transfer, diff's, air and fuel filters and a few other things for $525.00.

I never seen that kind of bill for 30k.
I would call ALL the GM dealer's in your area to see what they charge. I think you should ask them to break it down to 1.fluid cost. 2.labor cost 2b.flate rate hours involved. 2ba.parts involved and cost. 3.then tell them no wonder people go to monkey Fing wrench lube, ![]() 4.Your too close to the island of Cailfornia. Move to the east coast. way cheaper> ![]() |
Thanks all, thats what I thought. I was just going to be nice and let them do the oil and lube with a rotation because they are going to do some warranty work 4k after it ran out
But that is when he sprung the major service at "about $1400 on me. I will just tell him to check the CV's and axles as well as the normal stuff any quickee lube does and send me home. I have been out of touch for quite a while here but I was relieved to see nothing has changed ![]() Nav 04 H2 |
I spent the $525.00--coupon special--a couple years ago.
|
I did mine myself. If I were interested in getting free parts or service, then maybe I would consider having the dealership do some routine service. But 1.4k is a little on the steep side. Might as well pay me to do it so I can buy the drty winch.

I had the same service and paid about $800 at the dealer. Total rip-off. |

Nah, Dodge has been putting the fuel filter in the tanks of their trucks since the 2nd gen Ram came out in 94. Believe me, it was a royal pain in the rump to replace it when it went on my Ram. Ugh......... |
Dropped it off on my way to airport they replaced the Nav (2nd time) fixed a leak in the firewall (I didnt get gromets all the way back on when installing airhorns) put a new rear wiper arm and blade. All under warrenty even though it has almost 41k on it
![]() Changed oil, rotated tires, did most of the stuff on the list that the $1400 guy rattled off. they didnt change the fluids just checked and topped off Checked axles and CV’s etc. total bill with tax was $200 I didnt even buy it at this dealer, but my next one will be from them. |
