One weekend wheeling .... I found that black never looks the same after buffing, too many swirls....i also found that the black wheels scratched alot easier than chrome.....

New truck same options hopefully better color to hide imperfections and swirls from buffing...also the wheels are the same just chrome, and from seeing the guys/gals who were wheeling with me that had chrome with no scratches i had to go that route too.....

timgco 05-20-2005 01:09 AM

Very nice. What size rims/ tires are you running?
HHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMM...

Something's missing up on top.
something stainless that looks chromed but more durable.
Something that could have lights in it maybe.
something that doesn't sit any higher than your stock cross bars.

I think I have something that will work.
A first of its kind too.

lexpro 05-20-2005 01:23 AM

Tim thanks I would love to have a roof rack one day,,,,the wheels are 20x10 with 35x13.5 toyos on both trucks...

KenP 05-20-2005 02:15 AM

Great looking truck, Dan. But the color sucks!

Dan 05-20-2005 08:57 AM

Black buffs up nice if you know what you're doing.

Black buffs best by hand. You can use an orbital (carefully) if you finish with really fine compound and a good coat of wax.

Nothing looks better. But timgco's Desert Sand with black SUT may look as good.

I had our Lexus dealership buff it to try to get all the scratches out and they are the best i have seen but to make it right again(which i am a freak about my belongings being in good condition) it would take color "wet" sanding to get them out and because the H2 have so much orange peel from the factory we would have to tape off and do all of the flat surfaces on both sides, but it would look better than new becuase the paint would be so flat....

tower 05-20-2005 01:55 PM

Wow! If you need to buff out the orange peel to get the scratches out, they must be pretty deep. Hand buffing will take the scratches, but leave the peel. You might consider side shields when you go off-road.

lexpro 05-20-2005 02:10 PM

They were deep....i will use shields and maybe a hood mask like James on my next trip...and the lighter color i bet will help too!

I used the shields for the first time on my last trip. Glad I did...

The new bra worked great, too...

Auggie Mathis 05-20-2005 11:44 PM

I think the chrome wheels looks better.

tower 05-21-2005 12:10 AM

Wow!

Great forensic photos, mstams. Thanks!

mstams 05-21-2005 10:23 AM

Thanks to Dan for hooking me up with the contact info on the bra. It's a Colgan full hood bra and ran about $120 shipped. Here's the post where Dan told me about it...

I have a question:

Are you able to machine wash the bra? Can you put it on a delicate cycle and hang to dry (like traditional ones ). I think Dan had mentioned it before but I am hesitant. Can anyone help? I believe it is the same kind.

Fubar 05-21-2005 11:47 AM

mstams,
thanks for the link and info

You should be able to machine wash in cold/delicate and a small amount of detergent. After hang dry, mabye use some Armour All or vynil conditioner.

Arizona Hummerboy 05-21-2005 12:52 PM

I found out with buffing with a buffer it take' a very light hand.

h2co-pilot 05-21-2005 02:14 PM

Thanks Dennis, I appreciate it. I will try it this afternoon.

Be sure and post the results. I have one that needs serious cleaning and have been hesitant to put it through the wash.

Thanx!

DennisAJC 05-21-2005 03:27 PM

They're meant to be used for harsh enviroments. Water and mild detergent should not affect it. I use to have a Pontiac Fiero GT(15 years ago ) with a bra. I put it in the washing machine all the time. With Armour All or Vynil conditioner, it always looked new.

P.S. Use AllTemperCheer.

Buckeye Hummer 05-21-2005 04:49 PM

Dennis,

My sister had the exact same car. Those Fieros were way ahead of there time, pretty cool mid engine car actually. Hers got stolen and ended up at the impound lot.

mstams 05-21-2005 07:14 PM

I had an '86 Fiero SE 2M6 -- same engine as the GT but a little more chopped in the rear. That was a fun car in its day. It was faster than my mother's '84 Trans Am. Don't laugh, they were both fire engine red...

Yes, ahead of it's time for sure. I've always promised myself when I have time, I'm going restore one again.

KenP 05-21-2005 07:37 PM

Damn if I didn't have an '86 too! White. They sure were easy to slide around. You should have seen the looks I got when I climbed my ass out of that little thing.

mstams 05-21-2005 07:48 PM

I used to have fun sticking my head out the sunroof and driving at night. It was really cool -- especially with the lights off. That center console was so wide and positioned just right to sit on while driving. Try doing that in the H2...

DennisAJC 05-21-2005 10:28 PM

Ken,

let's start a Fiero thread!

My girlfriend at the time loved the removable sunroof. She could stick her head out.

And in, and out, and in, and out........

tower 05-21-2005 11:38 PM

Grey (pewter) ia also a lack of color choice. Black is beautiful!

h2c-p, didn't your mom ever tell you how to wash a bra?

Hand wash in woolite and air dry, like all your delicates!

It went fine, it is hanging to dry on the deck railing. I used Tide with a touch of April Fresh Downy. I will let you know the final results tomorrow.
