I have the new spare ready to mount on the tire carrier. My only problem is getting it up there. It's a freaking monster and the wife can't help pick this thing up.

I was thinking about renting a crane, but that's a couple hundred bucks an hour with a minimum of three hours. I could also call an Over the Road tire company with a portable crane to help.

What about a local construction company? I could borrow a cherry picker or backhoe.

I have a neighbor with a Vette. I bet I could roll the tire down the street real fast, up his hood, to the roof and then wiggle it on the truck.

Thanks for your help. I really need this mounted soon.

BTW, I did think of using the P/U bed backed up to the H2, but not until the tire was out of the truck.

wait till i meet u and i will help

SoonerBoarder 01-04-2006 05:16 PM

Rent a Cherry Picker. Or, you can get one at Sam's for around $150, usually.

String a come-along up over a tree branch and winch the bastard up then back up to it and slide it on. That is what I did when I decided that it would be a good idea to take it off.

KenP 01-04-2006 05:53 PM

Good suggestins, gang, but not quite there yet.

What if I bounce it off the deck, into the P/U, stand it up and back the SUT up to it? Just not sure about the bouncing part.

Oh, Oh... I could buy one of those inflatable kiddie toys, put the tire on it and inflate the toy. Yeah!!!!

Mr. I - Man 01-04-2006 05:59 PM

Military press it up , Girlie Man!!!

Maybe Rod has the answer.

Of course, I could build a ramp. Yes, build a ramp up to the truck and roll that sum-beatch up it...

Or even better, I could loop the DRTY Bumper Winch line over the brush guard, over the roof racks to the back of the truck and winch that sucka up...

Oh yeah, I'm getting all manly here. Where's the chainsaw?!?!

Pretend its a big, frosty cold Coors Light that you need to curl.

Here's what to do:

- Remove the tire carrier from the truck.
- Roll the spare into the garage.
- Place carrier in center of garage floor.
- Photograph the carrier.
- Put carrier on eBay.

Done!

H2Finally 01-04-2006 07:06 PM

I actually had the same problem before.

My solution was to place one of those little giant folding ladder in its most extended (open) position next to the H2, then rolled/lifted the tire to the top of the ladder, balanced it on the top most step, climbed on the H2 roof, grab the tire, and tip it down gently onto the roof.

After 3x, I bought a rear tire carrier.

KenP 01-04-2006 07:07 PM

Are you still here?

I can't sell it until I have a viable alternative to carry it. It won't lie flat in the back like the little stockers.

Now go back to work H2F. I heard you're a bery, bery busy pewson.

ree 01-04-2006 07:11 PM

Wuss. I know your spare is bigger than stock, but you should be able to heft it up there. Just make sure CP's not around with the video cam. I was glad I was inside my closed garage, alone when I mounted my spare. It might have been embarassing otherwise.

Or get one of these.
http://www.predatormotorsports.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=5
Teaka might have it cheaper.

Or, along the lines of a winch, custom fab a rear winch bumper, rig a pully on a flip up arm above the carrier and lift it up that way.

Will a 60" hi-lift with the tire attachment get it high enough?

This thing: http://www.hi-lift.com/products/liftmate.htm

it looks like you could get it up to about 4feet with the lift. Probably too low and cumbersome to work well.

mstams 01-04-2006 08:10 PM

Probably too obvious -- but is there a hill nearby that you could roll it up and back up to?

Precisely my husband's thoughts when I told him I wanted my tire on a Gobi rack! I am sure with a little "motivation" CP could be persuaded to help with a bit more umph!

FWIW, I just started this thread for my own entertainment. But there are some great ideas here.

I have a couple of skinny little buddies coming over for the 'Skins game and cards Saturday. They're going to put it up there. I guarantee you my ribs will still be hurting.

KenP 01-04-2006 11:14 PM

I guess the best way to remove the tire is to point UP a very steep hill, unbolt it and let the tire flllyyyyyyyyyy.

H2Finally 01-04-2006 11:24 PM

omg, all this time I thought you were having problem mounting onto a roof rack... instead you're talking about the rear tire carrier????!! YOU BLOODY WHIMP!! SUCK IT UP LAZYASS!! PUT A LITTLE BACK TO IT YOU USELESS BISH!!!

CP, I'm gonna send you a little whip to use on his lazy butt!

KenP 01-04-2006 11:27 PM

You bring out the funnay!

Now go back to work.

KenP 01-04-2006 11:29 PM

Kenny's a dork.

luv- CP

Edit: Do not leave computer while you're logged on to H2Source and wife is around....

Ken,

Just let me know I will help you with the spare. I am near Nimmo Pkwy. Be glad to help. BTW I can't get anyone from Hall to call me back and sell me a Hummer. Amazing. Thinking about calling Moore.

Dan 01-05-2006 12:48 PM

Why not just take a ride over there? Talk to Chuck. Tell him Dan from CT said HI.

PARAGON 01-05-2006 01:31 PM

Just let all of the air out of the tire first to reduce most of the weight.
