Nice Rig:cool: Gotta LOVE Air Force BLING!
![]() BTW, A little Armor All Extreme Tire Shine (or something similar that you let dry and don't have to wipe off) in the wheel wells make an AWESOME difference:D My service guy at my dealer turner me on to this. No more dirty looking wheel wells(even though they are clean);) |

- 60" X 80" Surco rack - Hill AFB UT and I love it! |
Re: H2 on the flight-line
Cool truck, used to work on F-16's myself, but would of been a cold day in hell before our base would let us drive our personal vehicles out on the flight line by the jets.

Re: H2 on the flight-line
My last commander use to take pic's of his Harley next to his A/C. Before ya knew it a bunch of us were doing the same. I'm waiting for a hard snow / no-fly day to do this again. When I was stationed at Hahn AB Germany we had to drive around A/C to get to our TAB-VEE. I had a P O S BMW that was a blast to zip around the ramp.

Avionics tech - I just swap box's; not a true mechanic, but the pay is good... travel, bars & girls rental car racing... ahhhhh the military.

Ken - you ever have one of those alcohol moments when you have some extra money and your kids are saying "dad, that would look better with 22"!" Then when you have them installed you do the Homer Simpson D'OH! Yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Can you post some more pics of your vehicle with the rack? It looks like you used additional cross rails to mount it? |
Re: H2 on the flight-line
Yes, but I've got weekend duty going on today. I'll post them by tomorrow. The rack came with everything except the KC lights I installed on the sides. The instructions look as if they had been translated a few times before finishing up in english, but anyone with some tool / installation knowledge can handle this. Two people make the job go quicker too.

Re: H2 on the flight-line
Thanks, those are perfect. Does the rack require those crossbars as part of the support? would it be sturdy without them? ie. if it's mounted like the gobi is...
Interesting place for your license plate... :) |
Re: H2 on the flight-line
They are necessary otherwise you would have to find a way to mount it to the factory rails. I believe there's a slight arch in the roof which would keep you from mounting the rack flat. I have a sheet metal friend that was going to build a rack of the same dimensions, but there's so much custom work to do even with the factory rails that it wouldn't be cost effective. I think for the $600 it is a very sturdy, low profile rack. I also keep my 60" hi-lift jack, 37" spare and a 3' X 4' soft luggage/tool carrier up there. It works perectly for me and that's the million dollar question you have to ask yourself; how will I use this? Let me know if there's anything else I can answer for you.
Yeah, I like the new home my plate has. It's the law here in UT. |
