Predator Motorsports fuel door

Installed my new fuel door last night. What a PITA this thing was but I like how it looks. Of course this morning it rained just enough to get the truck dirty

Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
Wish i could get some rain down in southern florida for my dang grass i wouldnt mind a free wash lol
|
Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
I really like the fuel door, looks great, but I still hate paying almost $200 for one. Why was it such a PITA and where did you get it at?
|
Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
bump... i'd like to know as well where you got it. will it work with an H2 also?
|

Yeah, we REALLY need rain here too but only go enough to get all the vehicles dirty, not enough to make any difference  |

I would not have purchased it for that much but got it off Ebay for less than $130 shipped. I heart the Ebay :D It was a PITA because you have to attached 5 very small nuts to it on the inside of the fender. I had to pull the wheel well and the black plastic trim below the door to get to them. There was no way I was going to be able to get my hand in there to get the 5th one though. If I had taken the fender off it probably would have been fairly easy but looking at the clips that hold it on there I was not sure how they worked and didn't want to break any of them. Nice thing is you don't have to drill any holes but it was a real b!tch  |

Don't know positively but would say no, it won't work for the H2. I am sure they have one for the H2 though, check www.predatormotorsports.com and see. |
Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
Thats a nice looking fuel door. under $130.00 seems like a good price.
Thats the type im looking for but I think I want one without a key. The added security is great but a pain to unlock every time you gas up. Ill get one when I decide:confused: |
Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
Ok, I like the $130 price, the two hours it would take me to put it on, I do not have. I will get the one from Jason that advertise simple one screw installation... black of course...
|
Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
I just wonder if one for a Aztek would be cheaper? smae plastic right?

I am sure it will be somewhat of a pain but I do like the added security of the lock. Quote:
I was looking for sometime now and was never willing to pay the prices they usually go for but $130 works. Now had I know how difficult is was going to be I probably would have go with one from Jason that you screw on. Quote:
Have no idea what the Aztek door looking like but these are aluminum. |
Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
It may have been a PITA, but it looks sweet! I think I like that one better than any of the other ones I've seen. How flush does it sit with the fender? Any more pics from different angles?

Thanks Sewie. I am very happy with the look. I have seen some that are more flush when mounted. I didn't get anymore pics but will try to get some later and post them this evening or in the morning. |
Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
Took a few more pics this morning.
From a few feet further back ![]() From the front ![]() From the back. A little blurry but you can see some of the gaps. Might try to tighten it a little more this weekend and see if that helps. Just don't want to deform the fender itself. ![]() From above. You can really see the gap at the top here. It isn't something that is really going to bother me though. Over all I am very happy with the look even though the fit could definitely be better. ![]() |
Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
Still looks good Newbie!:D

It looks great, here is mine I think I paid around 130. I really like having a locking door though, you dont have to worry about people messing with your fuel.

Just in case anyone wants to see the install process. I had called when I received it on Wed because the dealer I bought it from had copied the instructions so many times the pictures were useless. They said they could email them to me in a PDF which I thought meant that day, not two days after the install. Have to say, at least they did what they said they would do and have to give them credit for it.

Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
I like your fuel door. Unique compared to the RealWheels one that I have that is very common here.

That is one of the reasons I decided to go with this one. I know the keys have a code on them and need to check into if you can order an extra one. It comes with two but what a freakin pain if you happen to lose both of them. Quote:
Thanks Steve. |

I installed my Predator Fuel door Saturday and I have to say that it was cake walk all the way up to the last step:confused: . Tightning the screws was a task, but I got it. Oh, the retainer clips on the inside fender are easy to remove and can be re-used no problem. Use a flat head screw driver and pop the top part of the clip out(there is a groove for this) slide the top part of the clip out a hair and the whole clip will drop out....same concept as the drywall anchor. These are not like the old clips where you pull them out and the plastic teeth break and you have to buy new ones. I will post some pics to show it soon. There is a slight gap on top between the fender and the fuel door even after all the screws are tight. Use a little bit of black latex caulk to go around the fuel door (easy clean up with latex) - looks professional. Even though this fuel door might be a little harder to install, I think that it is great looking and well worth the time and money. I picked mine up on ebay for around $130. :jump: |

Getting those nuts tight was the biggest pain of the whole install, I just could not get my hands in there. Don't know if they have or not but I did talk with them in depth about the install and they said they were going to revise in procedures. The clips for the fender lining were easy to get off but I was wondering about the clips that hold the fender on. Removing the fender would have made the install a lot easier. Quote:
That's about what I got mine for and have been very happy with it. Make sure you wax it on a regular basis. I know that whenever I get any mud or anything on might it starts getting a white haze on it. |
Re: Predator Motorsports fuel door
You definitely have to be a contortionist to get your hands in there. I was a little lucky as mine are small. I wish the kit included a pre-drilled steel ring instead of those tiny washers that weren't really good for anything. Lining up the factory fuel bezel and the fuel door and the washers and then trying to put a nut on the back in such a tight spot...what a pain!

Being a contortionist would have definitely helped and I agree, a steel ring would have been a lot better idea. |
