Anyone know what going on with the Hummer HOPE program? Anyone here a member or planning on signing up?
|
Re: H.O.P.E.
Is that the one which seeks out XTerra drivers who are hoping to someday drive a Hummer?

Re: H.O.P.E.
Doesn't seem right. A well equipt rig is a well equipt rig and we know there are some well equipt H3's...

Re: H.O.P.E.
....And you guys are whiney- rescue doesn't whine.;)
I am assuming if Slummers may join the Hummer Club- they may join HOPE. http://www.thehummerclubinc.com/ You can ask questions about the program via email: mike@thehummerclubinc.com |
Re: H.O.P.E.
I would like to volunteer my truck and services, but my understanding is that you have to travel somewhere not near hear, and pass an offroading test of some sort...
while i'm sure i can be taught, i don't know if i'm driver-enough for the course, and it would be hard to get away for the time for a road-trip to wherever i could attain "trail endorsement" from the hummer club. so i guess that idea kind of got put on hold a while back. |

Re: H.O.P.E.
I received, literally, 1000s of emails requesting my support for the H.O.P.E. program. But, I'm going to have to decline this time. Most of my time if filled up with my work at the Make-a-wish foundation where I give rides to skinny kids with S-10s that are about to get fired.

Re: H.O.P.E.
The CHC has been pretty involved for some time now. They even asked us to go to NO after Katrina. Nightmare. There is an article about it in Azimuth but I cant find it online. I'll scan it in and post it.

Is is a chapter of The Hummer Club, Inc., yes. It was part of the HOPE program, yes. I don't know of any other deployments or any other requests. |

Re: H.O.P.E.
That issue must be from before last Fall. I only have issues going back to Q4 of '05.
Are you the Adam Smith in the story? So did any chapter members actually go, and if so, what did they have to say about the experience? |

I have no idea which issue it is. I am the Adam in the story and it's my black H2 in the pics. We are all CHC members and we had a great time. It seems like a long time ago now. |

Re: H.O.P.E.
ho,
I'm signed up. I've got everything done except my trail endorsement which I'm doing this week at the Hummer Homecoming. From what Mike Morris has told me the trail endorsement is an intro to HOPE and an intro to off roading (this week it's being held at the AMG test track) with a little bit of discussion and practice of radio protocol on CB. It doesn't sound like you need much if any off road experience to be able to complete it. I'll let you know more once I've done it. If I find out there's a superhero-esque uniform that we have to wear to be part of the program, though, I'm backing out :D ;) |
