Looks nice, but what happens when you get rear ended?;)

Who makes it? would be nice for water:cool:

Re: Gas Tank Holder On Factory Swing Away

What happens anytime you get rearended? I fabricated it and can make more in steel or Stainless Steel which is what this one is done in. It will work with the Septor water tank as well.

I wonder that as well - guarenteed flamable liquid all over crash scene.

Whoops...

or does it somehow protect the canister? Doesnt look like it offers much protection?

If you get rearended by anything ither than a semi they will go under us or hit lower than the tire carrier in most cases.

Re: Gas Tank Holder On Factory Swing Away

I like that carrier. How much do you want for one? I was thinking about getting soemthing fabbed up to carry two cans and my high lift, but.....

Rockyot 06-14-2006 09:10 PM

Re: Gas Tank Holder On Factory Swing Away

The way I designed this one is for the factory swing away only. I can redesign for what I see on a lot of 2003 and 2004's. The problem is that the engagement side of the carrier isn't really long enough. I can do a double on top of the factory holder and a high lift. I am designing a high lift set up for the right rear seperate from the can carrier. Let me know if anyone is serious. The shop that is making them for me in steel is charging $300 each if I order 10 more.

Why did you even look at this post? Have you ever been off road and seen a Jeep maybe? They have been running around with cans hanging off the back for a very long time. And they are much lower. It is a risk you may not want to pursue. Good luck on the street.

Send me a few photos and I will see what I can do. A one off will probably cost you $500. Does that work?

Won't work. Protrudes too far forward and will not allow tire carrier to close. Tank and holder would crash into the H2 hatch.

Works on mine! Try mounting it with the can pointing outboard Jackass:rolleyes:

And it looks a helluva alot better than the bling bling Home Depot piece part set up.

Also what is securing your gas cap? Nothing? bad design IMHO

He's in California. The stupid cans that are forced upon those who live in that oppressive state tend to influence the design of the holder.

Look at any CARB compliant fuel can and you'll see a difference between the NATO/Wedco style and the Scepter CARB compliant variant he shows in his pics.

Re: Gas Tank Holder On Factory Swing Away

I got a DOT compliant Scepter CAN mounted in mine and the strap covers the cap better than it does on the NATO one pictured.

DAMN

Nobody has yet come up with the design I was telling everyone. Crap, their all over Jeeps and other rigs.

And it doesn't have to just be a can holder. It could be used for all sorts of stuff and would be just above a rear end traffic accident:rolleyes:

Like the old Conifer rubicon rack that goes over the top of the spare and the jerrys cans were mount on each side. That would be great but those never had a way where the jerry cans cap was secured.

Hey this set up I'm doing right now only cost me $100 bucks including the brand new olive drab Scepter can. With DOT Compliant vented no spill cap and there is no way to remove the cap until you unlock the strap that holds it in the cradle.

Personally, I wasn't worried too much about securing the cap, but it's a good idea to be able to lock it down.

If you take the one you posted above and made a bar that clamped to the leg of the A-frame post that goes up from the bottom of the tire carrier and then have a plate welded at the end to accept different "attachments" it would be cool. And yeah it would be like those racks, except only one.

You could then mount the holder that you posted to that plate. Take that off if you don't need that, and put a different attachment like a high-lift mount, basket, or some other convenient mount. Simple bolt-ons once you have the piece of 2x4 tubing cut at the right angle and welded up.

Thanks, I've got on failure in the garage now. Hope this will do the trick..

Do you think it would fit with a 37" tire?? for the spare that is?

It can with some modification there is alot of extra metal to work with on the jerry can mount.

Do you have a SUT, then you would have to modify the bracket over 1/2" to the left

However you will have mount the can up higher , becuase you still have to have access to the release paddle.

If you have the SUV you can probably mount it on the Right side instead( cant do that with the SUT because the tailgate wont go down)

Or worst case scenario pop the cap off the jerry can before you lock it into carrier the plastic can might flex around the tire.

This is closer to what I was thinking. Higher up and over to the side so you still have visibility out the middle. But instead have a brace angling up from the angled brace going up to hold the tire. and have a vertical brace directly under the gas can carrier. I think you could only get one on the driver's side because the rear won't open if it's on the pass. side.

So to take the tank on and off do you have to also open the swing away tire carrier? How many times has the bracket hit the tailgate so far?
By the way the "bling, bling" look is for a better photo. We have sold quite a few of these so far. thanks.

:shhh: mmm Lets see I wheeled the piss outta my truck out west for two weeks and it didn't hit the tailgate once (though I really don't know how it ever would:confused: ). Yes you have to open the tire carrier to take it off, however that double as second layer of security since I have drilled a hole in the pin detent to fit another padlock. So if the carrier can't open you can't steal the can. Still yours looks like ****, is unsecure and over priced. I can't to see one so I can take a drunk piss in it. Why you ask because there is nothing stopping from doing so. Don't try to reinvent the wheel Chump!:OWNED:
