Winch Installed Today!

3 Attachment(s)
At 10 this morning :) I started to install the Hummer Solutions Winch Kit. 1 person, a lot of water and iced tea, a couple of breaks in the A/C. By 7:30 I was putting the tools away and on my way to get dinner. Can't wait to try it out!

Took me about 6 hours total. It was nice working on a non greasy vehicle. Just some mud transfer to wash off when I was done :D. . My guess is a shop will charge anywhere from $300 to $600 for the install. It really is not that difficult, just heavy.

The best part is knowing it is there just in case.

:D

Just got mine in today, too! Designed it myself, my buddy made it for me at his machine shop.

Now I just gotta test it!!!!

I'm thinkin' this one's high enough to keep it out of our Michigan mud, but I love the clean install on the bumper mount!

So do you have to remove the whole bumper to get access to the winch? What a PITA.

Re: Winch Installed Today!

A question, that looks to be a 3-sided box - are there heat issues?

Seems like wenches build up a lot of heat when you are running them hard, so you want to have an wide open box design to facilitate better wenching without heat buildup.

Also, I remember over on the NAXJA forums that using a synthetic line on a winch designed for cable could cause heat dissipation issues. I don't know if that's true, but I'd love to hear what the temps are like with a synthetic line, installed in the bumper, pulling an H3 out of the mud.

Most synthetic line that is designed to be used with electric winches will have at least one to two wraps with a special heat shielded coating or some such added to it.

Thanks! I'm not all that familiar w/winches (wenches, yes). What's the benefit of synthetic line over cable other than weight?
