K-rocks June 2006

I got home first so sorry about the bad photos from my Treo Phone. Thank you all. The hosts: PhilD & sFox could not have been any better (sFox have you recovered from the "trench feet"?). The Hummer owners were superb. The venue was out of this world. The guides were very good and very patient. The owners were very gracious and friendly. Then there was a deluge and the off-roading became truely awesome with stream fording, slick rock traversing, and even some mudding. The camping was primitive but the starry sky was majestic (thanks to my fellow campers for the company). Can't wait to hear what adventures were had today. Sorry I bailed out but I figured some points with the wife today will be converted to more future trips with you folks:D .
I must say, from my very biased perspective, that the H3's did hold their own. Hopefully the other Hummers agreed.:) |
Re: K-rocks June 2006
ETD, I would have to agree... was a GR8 day of off-roading (even for a newbie like me!) with the X-Club! And, I have to say, I was quite impressed with the H3's performance on the trails! (even without a locker!)
Thanks to everyone for their encouragement and patience on Saturday... made for a fantastic experience! |

Does Paragon have a matching dent now and is his mirror ok?
I want pics of the wet Jeep.:D |
Re: K-rocks June 2006
Hey, just noticed the rocket launchers on Paragon's truck. Did you get any vermin with them?;)

Once I blew the bead and was stuck there until we could get me to the point of popping the tire back on, 2-H2s, who was riding shotgun at the time, decided it was a good time for him to eat lunch since there was about 1/4 inch clearance between the rock and his door.;) |

Just for you Ken. Kind of hard to see, but in the first pic Shane is sholder deep hooking up the jeep to the winch. During the downpour lightning struck a metal fence post a short distance away and Shane took a pretty good jolt while he was in the water. |

Ken, I'm guessing one could probably get that skid plate from http://www.trailduty.com/products/fabtech/index.html |

P'gon, I think Ken was referring to the one I fabricated...reserve hell, I'm down to one full H2 & one scabed together one for now, thanks to YOU. ;) Ken if you are interested I can use mine as a templete. I have the Fabtech diff skid plate from Trail Duty as well, then custom manufacture that one to fill in the gap. |

in the ultimate marathon attempt at quick fixes and thanks to Phil and Seth we got some stuff custom rigged and one hell of a fast roadside pitstop.
Since I blew a bead in the water, when we reset it with a PowerTank CO2, the tire still had a good bit of water in it. On the road, the faster I went the higher the front tire would get to bouncing. 2-H2's was riding with me, Phil and Seth and Rod from Vegas all stopped to help to make about a 5 minute tire change. Once back at the Hotel, we noticed that the rear diff bolt had pulled through the mount on 2-H2's truck. The rear of the diff was rotated up about 6 inches too high and the bolt had become severely misaligned. Thanks to Phil and Seth turning around from on there way back home, we were able to, basically, undo the front end and re-align the front diff so we could get the bolt back in. Problem was that the rubber bushing was turn to pieces and the big solid washer that was suppose to keep the diff locked into position was never there. So, we had to do some custom, on the spot manufacturing. We cut a piece of aluminum that 2-H2's had, drilled a hole in it then took and cut about 1 inch off the head of a rubber mallet and drilled a hole in the center to use it as a rubber bushing in place of the one that was torn to pieces. Here is what the final product looked like that apparently got 2-H2's, wife and dog back home safe and sound. |

Great write up Paragon...just the picture for my vehicles debut.;)
Once again thanks to three fine gentlemen, their knowledge, "power" tools & durability. Plus turning around for us:) http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=17934 |

Those pics are great! Looks like a really fun time with lots of water, rocks, and SUNSHINE!:)

Re: K-rocks June 2006
Thanks, ETD. You're no slouch yourself. ;)
I learned a long time ago that the husband is better outside the truck with the camera, instead of in the passenger seat screaming "Don't hit that rock! You're gonna tip over! AUUGGGH!!!!" Stacy |
