Giant Cicada Killer

1 Attachment(s)
In keeping with the weird yard animal and insect theme here at Elcova. I now submit the Cicada Killer... dant ta daaaaaaaa

This big bitch was found flying around in our enclosed porch and the Mrs. caught it up in a box and I transferred it to a jar for the kid to study.

They eat cicada's, of which are buzzing loudly nowadays. I'll post a picture of one of those buggars in a momento. This sucker is about 2.5 inches long and is a big member of the wasp family. Now, considering our five year old has been stung by wasps more times than I care to remember, she wasn't too keen on seeing this thing flying around out in the porch.

More information on these weirdos are here: http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~hollidac/c...illerhome.html

Cicada's are nasty buggers! We had them dive-bombing us a few weeks ago when we went camping. I bought one of these. Works like a charm :)

Hymenoptera vs. Homoptera! Excellent.

And let me congratulate you for knowing that was a cicada. Most fools around here call them locusts, which are Orthoptera.

Problem is you'd be using Homer's words on the bugs and other Southern creatures on a daily basis, or at least until the wife and kids disappeared.
