Damn thing is going to bring 35-50 mph winds and I've got this giant, 60'+/- oak that's dead and within reach of the house. It's also within reach of the guest house with the trunk, not just the limbs, and our neighbor's house.

Crap.

I got an estimate to cut it down along with 2 10" diameter Gum trees, plus grinding the stumps and the punks want $2600!!! I was expecting a grand to $1500!!!

WTF?!?!?!

Re: Ernesto

I doubt it... when the radar showed the storm right over me I looked outside and nothing. It was just cloudy all day, only just started sprinkling a couple hours ago...little harder now, 10mph or so wind. The storm doesn't really exist, it was just created by the media. :shhh:

You were supposed to get on that tree days ago! Too must posting here. :beerchug:

But yep...pricey to cut down a tree, our huge 50' dead tree, with long branches was $3000 just to cut, another $1000 to remove all the crap they cut! I say get out there with your axe and start chopping. :shhh:

Wrong season to be asking for tree chop quotes :(

May I suggest you start thinking "hmm.. can buy a lot of cool tools with $2600.. chainsaws, log splitters, big-ass chippers..." :D :D

I've got a chipper on the way.:D But there's no way I'm climbing that tree to start cutting. Besides, I'd need a giant chainsaw to cut the trunk up.

I'm just surprised by the cost.

DEI, it's also the wrong time of year to buy a generator.... But since the Atlantic temps are cooler then last year I'm going to hold off until the fall/winter. Intallation prices are stupid high.

Hmm...the sky is bright white in the direction of the storm now...that's weird, it's usually pitch black. Watch out!

And damn there are a ton of frogs out now, 4 got in just as I opened the sliding patio door. Here is a captive one:

I heard scorpions often run to homes for shelter during such storms.:shhh:

Re: Ernesto

We were supposed to see winds like that as well and it wasn't even close to half as bad as our afternoon thunderstorms. Just tape your house up and you will be fine :D

That price for the tree isn't bad really. I also have an 80'+ tree that just all of the sudden died a few weeks ago. Luckily it would just barely reach the house with some of the top branches if it does come down.

Very true and you could just pay for a climber. They are the ones that really make the money when cutting down the trees. Had four 80'+ trees taken out a couple of years ago the the climber was a contractor for the tree service. Showed up, did his job, got a check and left the rest for them to do.

DAMN!!!!!!! I had about 20 trees removed around our house getting ready to tear down and build anew. BIIIGGG trees. 2 - 36"+ trees that were right next to the house. A couple of them were smaller and dead but we only paid $2000 to have the trees taken down. They hauled most of the tree tops off and then I had someone come in and get the trunks for free (they hauled them away and, I didn't have to pay, and they took them to a lumber yard and sold them, so that's how they made their money)

I would guess half the trees had to be climbed, delimbed and taken down in sections. Some of the others were topped and then were felled by using rope and a truck.

I've used a winch several times to take a tree down and keep it from falling towards the way it was leaning.

Why don't you have them skip the stumps to save some cash. I just used my H2 and my winch to pull out the Stumps. Strap would work just as well too.

aw quit your whinen and cut it down. works best if you climb up and cut it down in 2 ft section (Ha) works fastest if you cut it 2 ft off the ground (another ha) but whichever way you do it make sure cp posts the pics:dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

Yeah, it seems the second band (or whatever) is coming through now.

I really wish I could find the camera. The huge dead tree is still holding.;) I didn't expect so much wind ect. I have lived here all my life and been through a lot of storms, and this is nothing, but I just didn't expect it and blew it off. Kind of a surprise when I woke up.:D

Yeah! Second estimate crushed the first one. Just $1700 including grinding the stumps and removing the debris!

It'll be something entertaining for the kids to watch since he's coming Thursday. Paragon, we'll get some peanuts and Capri Suns for the kids and they can sit on the deck watch the fun. We'll drink beer.:beerchug:
