Did anyone install rear roof lights to their H3 yet? I wanna see pics please....(clearance lights like the H2's) thanks.
Funny, I was just thiking this morning I should find some this weekend and install them. I've been thinking about it all week. If anyone has ideas, let us know. I think I saw somewhere on this site that the H2 lights are too big and don't look right.
I went to the local auto parts store to see what they had, not a great selection but I think whatever the size they will need to be rectangle to look right. It appears the wires can run down inside the black trim and connect to the tailights. Anyone have any thoughts?
I'm thinking about putting 2 red on the back and 2 amber lights right above the front seats.
Yea, I think only a small hole through the plastic trim for the wires would be ok if we caulk it to prevent leaks.
I might go to PepBoys and see if I could find something and put them on, but not quite sure about the wirrings though....I've never done this before as far as wirring stuff.
ok Update:
- I installed the lights today, and they look great, wow, I will post some pictures tomorrow. 2 red and 2 amber....got the lights from PepBoys. It took me about 2-3 hours to install them because at first I didn't know what I was doing about the wiring but I figured it out, I connected them to the marker lights.... |

I still have to figure out a better way to mount those lights, right now I used double sided tape.

-please post pics when you do...thanks |
It's done. I added 2 on the corners and 3 small ones in the middle above the rear window (like the H2). I can't post the pics cause they say their too big??? I'll keep trying.
reduce the size.

Lets try this, I took another picture. Not as good but maybe it will post. I'll take some in the daylight tommorow.
Looks great! where did you get those lights (rear) and how did you wire them?
I got it all at pep boys. I think their the same kind you have except the LED one's. The small ones were 10 each and the large ones were 13 or so. The corner ones are wired down the pillars to the tail lights. The wires for the 3 center ones run down through the tailgate to the hinge side and through the black rubber boot. They stop there as I am afraid to connect them to my tail lights until I check with an auto electric place. Considering it took me 2 hours to figure out how to post the picture, I think I should check with a professional so I don't catch fire to the H3.

If their LED's you got nothing to worry about, they draw far less power then even one regular light. |
- Yo Hmrlvr! where's the other pic? we would like to see up close how you mounted them..... thanks.

OK, the installation is complete. It took longer than I thought it would, but no wires are visible and it looks awesome. The small LED lights have a connector on the back of them so I had to not only drill holes to connect the lights but also cut a 1x1 hole for the connector to fit into behind the lights. Drilling into the truck was kinda scary, but all is well and everything is waterproof. Also, I didn't like the white on the larger corner lights so I painted them with plastic paint before the permanent install. Anyway let me know what you guys think. I past a guy in a red H3 today and he almost broke his neck trying to figure out how the lights were mounted.

Oh I don't know, I was goofing around showing my daughter how you could change the sig and forgot to change it back. |
Well, we're going through our first real rains here and I'm happy to say NO LEAKS from the rear marker lights. It's a good day. Nothin like a little silicone to save the day.
I like the lights. I have to say people at this forum have mad skills and great ideas and crazy knowledge. Definite get up and go they insall stuff the second it comes to there mind. Either that or I am lazy as hell. Thanks for the pics.

hmrlvr- How difficult was it to fish the wiring down the side of the rear gate? I was peekin' at it all and was wondering if there are any obstructions in there. tnx |
No obstructions but I did drill a hole behind each light inside the car to help feed them down. The holes are behind the plastic trim above the window so you cant see them. The hardest part was drilling into the gate.
How are the rear marker lights holding up, any problems with water, blown fuses or anything?
No leaks as of yet. We had a couple days of hard rain (hard for LA) and all was dry inside the gate. It's gonna rain rain this weekend, I'll watch them for leaks.
