Warn?
9.5ti Thermometric 9,500lbs

or the PowerPlant HP with an air compressor

Re: WHICH WINCH TO BUY???

isn't the 9500 overkill for an H3???

would an 8000 be adequate???

Re: WHICH WINCH TO BUY???

I have alway heard, and lived by when I had a Winch, that its rating should be 1.5 times the GVWR of the vehicle it is mounted to. The H3 is 5850, so the winch should be at least 8775. So 8000 is too small, and 9500 is bigger than required. A 9000 would be ok, but I would go no lower.

I like Warn, but there are other reliable ones out there.

Re: WHICH WINCH TO BUY???

The Warn Power Plant weighs 100lbs and the 9500 weighs 89lbs.

Not much differnce considering it has an air compressor built in.

Excellent info as usual:D

Mile Marker has a relationship with HUMMER and the Military. It seems as thought they are not as widely used as Warn. Any particular reason?

I'm thinking that powerplant would be a pretty sexy thing to have in an integrated style winch bumper??

And you wouldn't need to borrow my compressor anymore. ;)

Get a 9.5. Never know when you'll need to pull out a stuck H2. :jump:

BTW. I still hate you. :fdance:

I'd want a Warn with synthetic winch line.

Wench?
Why would anyone want to buy a wench when you can just rent one for a few hours and save all kinds of money.(even after you pay for the motel room):D

Re: WHICH WINCH TO BUY???

I'm getting the 12k warn powerplant before next summer. That's my choice.:perfect10s: . I want the extra power if I need it.

f5fstop 11-21-2006 11:43 AM

Re: WHICH WINCH TO BUY???

You might need a 13K to pull out DRTY; them thar H2s are heavy....

Only thing I would say to look out for with the PowerPlant HP on a Hummer H3 front end is how much airflow does it prevent from reaching the radiator. It appears to stick up pretty high and could block some needed air into the radiator, causing the vehicle to run warm; in the desert areas.

Re: WHICH WINCH TO BUY???

I am running the Mile Marker SE12000 and am very happy with it. I got it through a buddy of mine that knows winches and he highly recommends them. I also know that you can get this same one for about $550 shipped. I also like having the extra power in case I need it.

I have the doi w/warn 8000lb winch, love it but want to get synthetic line. would have spent the extra $75.00 and gotten the 9.5 if I was paying attention but my cheap a$$ side came out ;) and looked at the lower price and didn't see actual price difference. the 8000lb pulled plenty good when I got myself sitting on the frame in a mud hole. single line pull, that was after I found a suitable winch point. first try pulled a tree out of the ground(oops) but if you have a snatch block I think it would have plenty pull:)

So how are you going to mount the wench, uh winch? ;)

I mount my WARN to a front tow receiver. However I don't recommend this because it does limit the approach angle. I think the winch mount made by Cris is the best out there so far.

I don't see any feedback about a winch and the suspension. Hitting a pot hole with a 100 pound winch on the front is a lot of g forces, I would like some opinions of that issue.

What about security?

Not sure yet....soooo many options;)

Re: WHICH WINCH TO BUY???

I'll probaly get an integrated version, there are a few out there, so security is not really an issue there.

I've got an integrated winch bumper and brush guard on my front end and I don't lose any sleep over the weight issue. I use synthetic line which helps a bit. If I was worried, I would still keep the winch and tell my wench...I mean wife...to sit in the back. :giggling:

Re: WHICH WINCH TO BUY???

I high speed travel I don't think it will have enough negative effect on the air flow to matter. At slow speeds in 4lo locked, when the engine does get warm, the air flow won't be affected at all.
