This Dove lost its mate to a damn cat, and now it thinks it has found another in the reflection of the windshield. My 3 gets washed everyday now.

Well why do you have a reflection of a bird on your windshield anyways?! Take it off and maybe the bird won't come around anymore.

I'm surprised you only got the pair, after I get one I usally get at least a dozen more before the year is out. Course I got an acre of spruce and cedar trees they seem to love but their other passtime is bombing garage door and freshly washed vehicles. Regards The Rebel

Did the one the cat got look like the one in your photo? Did you know that they mate for life? If they looked similar, it may think it's him/her behind the windshield. Otherwise, it's just perching there. Once its mate is gone, they do not find another. :crying:

Are you sure?? He/she is out there right now just looking at itself. I am not going to shoot it or kill it or anything like that. But I was thinking of puting a large towel over the windshield so it can't see itself any more. Or trap it and make it a pet... Crap! I have no clue.

It has a nest near by, but hasn't used it since the mate was killed. I have no idea where it goes when I am not home.. I may try the mirror though.

OK now this is sad, it is raining now and it is still just huddled in the corner of the windshield... Ok I have to go scare it off so it will go find shelter...

Well, OK, You'll have to use the TOUGH LUV technique!...Using cotton balls, (so you can't damage the bird or Finish on truck)....See bird land...Grab handfull of cotton balls...Cock arm so handfull of ball line up with shoulder......Swagger out the door--arm still cocked!...And just before the bird takes off...Fire those cotton balls!!....May take several attempts!....But, the bird will get the picture! :D :dancingbanana: :giggling: :D

Yes, I'm sure. We had something similar happen years ago. Long story short, I called the zoo and spoke to someone in the bird section (geez, can't think of the name). He told me pigeons (and yes, penguins) mate for life. It is seeing its reflection in your windshield (in our case, it was the window of a business we owned). It would huddle there 24/7 just looking at itself and cooing... rarely looking for food. Covering your windshield somehow with a towel sounds like a good idea. Good luck. :)

Re: Damn Bird!

Our local bird rescue will be comming over to see if they can catch it and take the dang Dove to another area where there are more Doves. They did say that it will not find another mate, but would live among the others.

Now if I could get animal control to be that willing to work and get the damn cat.

I have an awesome receipe for grilling dove. First you cut the bird down the middle gut it keep the liver. Take a pat of butter, fresh basil, garlic and the dove liver wrap with 2 slices of apple bacon stuff iti nto chest cavity, then wrap the outside of the chest area with one more slice of bacon use a toothpick to hold it all together the dry rub it with sea salt, rosemary and thymemixtur and toss on the grill low heat till done. Enjoy with a Pinot Grigio or a Dry Riesling

Mmm Yummy !

A very tasty way to get rid of pests:giggling:

I know a guy in the disposal business that can take care of your bird problem, no questions asked. $500, and it'll be like it never happened. He is an expert in making things disappear, no pictures, names, recordings, nothing will remain.

That's too damn complicated. Get a good ole jalepeno, stuff it up in a de-boned dove breast, wrap with bacon and grill.

I'll be DAMNED if that's not some good eating. Of course, that bird doesn't have much of a breast, so I would tie it's feet to a string and let it be a live decoy so you can get some more for the dinner table.

Well the bird stoped shiating on my 3, but you should see my biatch nieghbors car. HAHAHAHA! The bird hangs out still and looks at him/her self all day in the windows of the 3, and when I come out he/she flys up to me now and just yesterday he/she followed me into the house. Just walked right on in as if it were nothing. Teaches me for leaving the door open on a nice day.
I guess the Dove decided the H3 was to nice to Shiat on.
