SO GOOD OFF ROAD, I THOUGHT I COULD LIVE WITH THE TURD ENGINE. BUT I CANT. WENT TO PASS A TRUCK AT 60MPH ON A SLIGHT UP HILL AND AFTER WHAT SEEMED LIKE FOREVER, THE TRUCK DRIVER LET OFF AND LET ME PASS! WTF? ENGINE SEEMS TO MAKE OK POWER AT 5000RPM AND UP, RIGHT WHERE YOU DONT NEED IT. NO POWER DOWN LOW LIKE IT SHOULD BE. WHAT A POS. AND ITS AN 07 WITH THE NEW ( MORE POWERFULL) ENGINE! BUT I BOUGHT IT SO I WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT OR TAKE A HUGE LOSS AFTER ONLY 4 MONTHS AND TRADE IN ON SOMETHING WITH DECENT POWER. BUT I MUST SAY ITS AWSOME OFF ROAD.

Hummers are not sport cars. Period. They do just fine on the highways but I repeat they are not sport cars.:beerchug: Not one commercial for H1,H2, or H3 shows the Hummer racing at Daytona or street racing in Miami. They show then doing what they were designed for....OFF ROAD. But at the same time they are quite capable on raod vehicles as well.

They are what they are. Either love it or hate it. No in between with Hummers;)

I just don't get these posts and I agree with NewHummerGuy.

BUT - I don't have any problem with keeping mine at 80 mph plus going uphill. The only engine mods I have are the K&N aircharger and the little extra additive I add to every tank of gas or so. It sucks gas terribly when I run it hard (averaging 12 mpg city driving) but I just don't have a problem with highway speeds or mileage (19 mpg). The low city mileage is likely due to my lead foot and the several hundred extra pounds of grill guard, rear bumper guard, roof rails, and "permanent cargo space crap".

It could use a little bit of torque curve adjustment for speed in the lower end but I am afraid this would affect the torque curve for off roading.

If you want a rocket SUV, spend the money for a Cayenne and good luck with the payments too...

haha, bad example. The only thing stock on Robbies rig is the grill the makes it look like a H3! :giggling: Not to mention the 700+ hp vette motor has a bit more pull than the I-5. :beerchug:

Learn how to keep it in the 4000-6000 rpm range when you need passing power. Either kickdown or manually select 2nd or 3rd gear (assuming you have an automatic tranny).

Even if it is a stick drop down 1 gear if not 2 depending on speed for the passing power.

Around town I find myself keeping the RPMs up a lot more than other vehicles I've owned, and not letting it get out of 3rd gear very often just with my foot, not shifter. Works great for me, and going to Big Bear up the mountains, I can keep it about 65-70 up the grade pretty effortlessly. Anyway, I cant complain, but I dont have that "need for speed" attitude. Other toys fill that void! :beerchug:

After test driving an automatic up in the mountains we decided to get the stick...5 speed. If you have an 8cylinder up here (9000-10,000ft) you can haul ass but without it the sitck is a great way to go. I have no problems up here climbing at 75mph. I go back and forth to Denver a lot and when I come back up the hill I am the one passing everyone else...not the other way around. I would guess that with the auto....do not be afraid to downshift.

5 cylinder automatic...4700lbs....doesn't go fast uphill....hmmm...go figure.

If you want a quality off road vehicle, make necessary slower adjustments on the highway. If you want a fast vehicle, compromise off road ability in order to drive quicker on the highway. Sell it. fdance:

The Hummer brand, like all other Tactical Military vehicles, is designed to get from point A to point B, through whatever terrain it needs to get through.

Show me one Military vehicle that is fast, or has a low rpm passing gear?
There are none.

4700lbs, is heavy. Not as heavy as other vehicles, but heavy non the less.
220 hp, is more than ample for the 3, to get it where it needs to be.

Want something faster, or more powerful?

By a V8 something or other.

Definately beats my 74 Scout II with 5.29s front and rear, 345/ 4speed. Tops out at about 60 mph with the engine screaming. I'll pull your house off the foundation though if you like? :giggling:

(TACTICAL MILITARY VEHICLE)! give me a break; theres not one part of an h3 that is on a military vehicle. oh, i forgot those fake air intakes near the windshield or those plastic center caps that make it look like it has a tire inflation system. look,i never said i wanted a fast vehicle, but i would like one that doesnt take a 2 mile down hill with a tail wind just to pass a truck.

Obviously you dont own a hummer or you wouldnt be bad mouthing it like this. I am NOT saying my H2 is a military vehicle (although I am making it look more like one ;)...but you should understand what folks are saying.

The 2 and 3 are not, but if your complaining this much about h3 performance, you bought it for the wrong reason.

There are only 2 reasons to buy a h2 or h3.
Off-Roading ability and dare I say it, but look the look at me factor. Buy a cross over suv if you want someting fast.

sorry guys, didnt mean to piss everyone off. everything i said was about MY h3 and it is all true, maybe all the other h3s have enough power and dont have factory bling to make them look tuff. Question, ever wonder why when your riding around with friends in your h3 and you floor it, nobody knows ? also, ever noticed how many h3s running around town are driven by girls?
