Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
First of all. Huge kudos to the speed of PCMforLess for the turn around of the loaner & re programming mine. I received the loaner last saturday morning, took mine out, installed theirs, went to the post office saturday afternoon, and priority mailed it out. It came back last night, tuesday night re programmed. How an earth that happened so fast is beyond me.
Now the fun stuff. Installed the re programmed PCM, and the truck fired straight up. I have Toyo 35", and a K&N air filter. The difference is VERY noticable. More pull, more all around power, better shift points, and also firmer shift points. I have to go through some mountains on my way to work, which is 30 miles one way. I generally went into 3rd up the hilly parts so as not to lolligag. NOW, it does it in D easily and better than when I went into 3rd before. Drop it into 3rd, and YEAH BABY, this is what I have been looking for. This is a very impressive addition to this truck, and has made it a joy to drive. All the positive comments that have been published on this forum about PCMforLess, in my opinion, are right on the nose with there comments. In fact, I am so impressed, I am going to do my wifes Z71 tahoe. |
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
are you running 87 octane fuel ?
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
yes, I am running the 87 octane fuel. I am also going to go 4 wheeling friday(any AZ wheelers want to come. Mud Springs, Log Corral & fr393). I am really looking forward to see the low end difference for wheeling. :excited:

Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
It takes about a tank of gas to get the full benefit of the programming. To help the idle relearn, start up the H3 when cold and let it warm up to normal temps.
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
OK I just got mine yesterday (loaner). Now how hard was it for you to get the damn plugs off. And did you move your washer fluid bottle and over-flow?
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
No need to remove anything. The 3 plugs might be in there pretty good from not having been disturbed from the factory. Pull up on the red tags, lift the lock ALL the way up, and carefully wiggle the connectors off. it might take a few minutes, but they will come. I sprayed the connectors once they were off with electronics cleaner. Ensure on install that the plugs go all the way in.
Follow the instructions on the loaner for re learn. its all very easy. |
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
Yeah.. so you say.:)
I sure hope its that easy. Thanks WD |
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
How much for the mod?
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
Any advantage to having yours reprogrammed instead of nuying one direct from them?:beerchug:
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
I think it is because it has something to do with the vin # and all the network of crap in the 3. Anyhow, I was told to get the loaner and send mine in and when it comes back I would be stoked.
I am sure hopeing thats what will happen... |

Yep, you can skip the CASE relearn that way. If you buy one outright, you would need to find someone to do the relearn for you. We realize that's kind of a pain for some people, hence why we offer the option of sending your PCM in, or using our loaner program (with leaves you with your PCM tuned in the end). Thanks so much for the great review Nigel!! :clapping: |

You speak the truth, It was easier than I thought. I put the loaner in and followed the instructions (it said it wouldn't start) but it did and off I went. I have a lil less room to work with, my Airhorn tank is just to the right of it and the lines to it are in the way. But it was easy! |
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
I was just looking at the order sheet. It has three options for towing. No, <1500, >1500. I couldn't find any aditional info on their site.
I don't normaly tow but would like to have the option available to me if I want to. WHich option should I pick? |
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
What happens if you go in for service and they flash you?? do you start from brand new $$
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
1 Attachment(s)
Flash them back.... Good question but I doubt my dealer would have an issue.

I put mine in today and have only driven about 10 miles since. I love it!!! I hit passing gear on the interstate to get up to an opening in the right lane and could tell a HUGE difference. I can't wait to get down in the Smoky Mountains next week and see the difference there. Big thumbs up to PCM for less!!:perfect10s: |
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
Awesome guys, very glad you are liking these things. I have personally put alot of time into developing them. If you don't mind share with us any MPG improvements you happen to see as that is one of my big goals. Good power increase and improved MPG.
Its too bad they don't come like this from the factory. I have a feeling they would more however it would put me out of a job that's for sure! Thanks again Alvin@pcmforless |

Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
hey guys, can someone explain the shift firmness option to me. dont really know which i should go with. how is it gona be if i go with option other than stock. This is my daily driver, and i do use it for offroading too. This is the only thing keeping me from ordering rite now, just donno the what increased firmness means (regarding the transmision, not bewbies).
oh and also would changing firmness have any effect ont eh transmisions life? I'd really appreciate a fast response, I would like to get this shipped out asap so i can get it by the end of the week. Thanks.:beerchug: |
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
More firm means a harder, quicker shift, which gives you more power. Will it hurt the tranny over time, probably, but I doubt you would really notice the negative effect.

Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
Not yet. I just got my loaner yesterday and will be installing it this weekend. Hopefully I'll have my reprogrammed pcm back by next weekend.
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
got mine installed thursday and will be going to badlands in attica indiana on saturday. its about 150 mile drive from here, so i'll take a highway reading. will post tomorow night.
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
Swapped in the loaner pcm today. Very easy, 5 minutes tops. Did the security thing and it started right up. I'll send out my pcm tomorrow and hope to have it back by the weekend!
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
swapped mine on thursday and didnt really notice any gain in mpg or performance. well actually, it felt more like pre-35s. i didnt really get used to the way the 3 performed with 35s (without pcmforless, cauze i put the tires on 2 days before that) so im basically comparing the results to before i got the 35s put on. Im happy with it, no gain no loss.:excited:
6pack let us know how yours goes |
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
So if you are running 35 toyos does the shifting so much up and down by it self stop and shift more like it did before i put the 35 tires on it ? and does the gas mpg i lost from going to 35 tires go back to more mpg like it was ?
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
From all of the good stuff I'm reading, I want to do one myself. I only plan to go to 33's from my 32's and would prefer the softer shifting as this is my DD/work truck. The shifting down on every hill really bugs me, so this would be the reason (+ more power) why I want to do it. Is a drop in a/f worth doing over stock, or do I have to do a CAI to get any results?
|
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM

from what i have noticed it seems to shift like it did without the 35s. still if you step on it a lilttle more it will downshift. if going up a moderately steep hill and you wana keep speed it will downshift. suposedly your mpg should go up, i couldnt tell because i didnt get a mpg reading with the 35 without the pcm. but the numbers im getting now are comparable to before i got 35s, maybe .5 to 1 mpg less, maximum. |
Re: Just Installed My Re-Programmed PCM
Has anyone heard from Alvin or Kaliente? I have been trying to communicate with them regarding the ECU repro with no success...:crying:
