V8 a reality.
This is not hearsay, I saw it with my own eyes. I took old yeller down to the dealer for the rear end again and the sales manager showed me the papers sent to them by Hummer. No pricing yet but come September, there we will own one of the first V8s. He says more details will be coming soon. Dayum I'm glad I didn't jump on the 3.7!

Hot @#$% !!
That's fantastic! Do you know when they will be in SoCal? I wanna look.... :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: |
Re: V8 a reality.
He told me "About September sometime." He's going to call me as soon as ordering is allowed. Our biggest problem is what color to get since the yellow's not available. He also said that he wasn't sure if yellow was going to stay gone because of the hubbub that taking it away has caused. :excited:

Re: V8 a reality.
Here's the true story... When we went from a 5.3 Yukon SLT to our 6.0 Denali, we gained right at a mile and a half per gallon. Doesn't figure does it. (not a question) It does to me, particularly how hard we flog the 3.5 with the heavy Hummer. The 5.3 won't be working as hard. On the freeway, it's a matter of moving the square mass through the wind. Our Denali gets 16mpg. Y'know what my H3's getting since I put the BFG ATs on it? 16mpg. So it can't be that different with the 5.3 in the H3.
I'll let you know how it works out. I'm pretty curious about two things though, the front and rear end (will they upgrade them to put up with the increased torque of the V8) and the Adventure package (will it still come with the 4:1 tcase and 4.56 gears) By the way, it will be called the Alpha according to the documents he showed me. Booyah!:dancingbanana: |
Re: V8 a reality.
Yea I heard the same thing at my dealer 3 weeks ago, expect the V8 in October/November timeframe. I wouldn't bank on significant improvement in gas mileage with or without DOD. But the power difference would be very significant with similar mediocre mileage. Not a bad tradeoff.
Our 3.5 and 3.7's might take a rapid depreciation hit later this year, although continued gas prices increases might temper that. I'm not sure I'm in a big hurry to take that hit right away. |

We already got one here, a conversion carried out by the local dealership. It's a 440 HP:excited: 6.2 L Cadillac V8, 18" rims with 35" M/T's, competition gas shocks and thats about all I know. Price for this particular vehicle AED 260,000 or about 70,000 US$. Theres probably about $15k of that for the interior and cosmetic mods. There was a whole load of GM/HUMMER big wigs plus a couple of Sheikhs at the unveiling plus some local press. If I get any more info I'll let you know.:beerchug:

But anyways, guys, theres hundreds of posts on this already. Although the bigger engine will be doing the work easier it will still be doing the same work, more or less, as whatever other engine you put in it. And since you are just changing the engine and not aero or friction then there is no way the milage will drop, except if you put a less efficient engine in, which i doubt. Work is basically what equates to how much gas it will consule, not how much noise its making. And usetosellhummer hummer said it rite, it can only go up. but I kind of think it will most likely stay the same, because of teh little increase in weight (assume there will be some increase) from teh larger engine, and increase in weight from beefing up the powertrain, which i assume they will do if its weak, so i figure thats gona require a little more work which might be offset by a dispalcemnt on demand engine(if they put one of those in). so either pretty much the same or maybe just maybe an increase. |

Some good info their. Also ..you must consider..How many of us want a V-8..?? I'm happy with the I-5 and it's low end power. Of course I wish I had a tad bit more for passing ,but all in all I'm happy with the I-5. My driving situation is local with minimal high way usage. Maybe if it was all hi speed high way it would be a different story. So..this brings up an interesting Question. How many of you would trade and or upgrade just for a V-8? I'd stay right where I'm at with my 07 I-5 3.7. Let's hear from you guys...I-5 or V-8..In your own words. :beerchug: |

I'd stay right where I'm at with the I-5.
:iagree: X2 The I5 does just fine,I take many highway trips and havent needed more power.Maybee if you tow alot the v8 would be needed. Its a truck if you keep it under 70 it does great on gas,. even running 80-85 mph on a long trip I got 17.4. When I need power Ill take the 442 out for a spin. ![]() |

the 3.5 is fine for me , mostly just rollin around moab now , no freeways to deal with here ;) i wonder how the front diffs and carrier brackets will fair with the power . the 3.5 can bust $hit on these trucks just fine in low range . |
Re: V8 a reality.
The 5.3 is a great engine. the multi deplacement will increase mpg on the H3 but what will the extra weight and that sweet 50/50 weight split turn to? the I-5 is lighter and yes works harder. Hard core engine people have told me a strait anything is better then a v anything> I don't need a 8 and if i did I would want more room to go with it. Great decession for an Alpha and to shut up the no power weiners

Re: V8 a reality.
The V8 is proabaly going in the H3 -truck too :)
I hope they offer the V8 with a 5-speed and an Adventure Package in the H3 and H3 Trucks! Hey maybe a V8 in the H4 too! |
Re: V8 a reality.
You know what this means to me??
That I will be able to pick up a clean H3 for a DD, and turn mine into a dedicated trail rig....:jump: |

I saw the picture. Nothing was for real until I saw it with my own eyes at the dealer though. If you want a good feel for how the new H3 Alpha will perform, simply test drive an Envoy Denali. Same weight and instead of the over 10 second 0-60 time of the H3, it'll be under 7 seconds! It's tow rating is a full ton more than the H3. It's 0-60 rating will be better than the Fuggin Junk and even what all the magazines called a real hot rod, the Xterra. We drove the Denali Envoy and it's VERY MUCH a performer. The 5.3 will have active fuel management and the Envoy gets 16city 22hwy ( I have no doubt that the blocky H3 will get somewhat less but I bet it's not much different than the I5) No, none of us buy an H3 to be a hot rod but now it will truly live up to it's billing "Like Nothing Else" It'll tow better, pass better, climb mountains better, and pull the All Terrains better. (I'm gonna puke if they only put the V8 in a 2wd bling machine) I'm already planning for a nice dynomax exhaust system. I've seen people put duals on I5s and that reminded me of Joan Jett wearing Pam Anderson's bra. There's a good side to this, the people that like the I5 will have plenty of used vehicles to choose from. Here's a question: How many H2 drivers will want an H3 Alpha? |
Re: V8 a reality.
Hay, your implying eveyone will trade? I'm sure i am not the only person who owns a H3 and does not make buu kuu cash. v-8 will probally cost 3-5 k more plus packge add ons. The I-5 will live on baby.
v-8 H3 $42k new H2 $50K GAP GETS CLOSER? H4 will have the I-3? |

The I5 is adequate. It works. For people that don't mind it, I think it should stay in the lineup. The H3's a heavy vehicle. It has been driving me bonkers because of my commute. Any time we take it out of town, I definitely have to adopt the mindset of not passing. We have a 6.0 Denali and perhaps that's why it drives us bonkers because it seems like a hot rod compared to the H3 and when you get out of one into the other, the difference is profound. If all you drive is the H3, it probably never bothers you. About that price? You're comparing apples to oranges. What new H2 are you going to get for $50k and what new H3 are you going to get for $42k? Dayum folks, you act like I'm peein' on your hubcaps. Nobody's saying you should buy a new H3 or that the one you're driving is krap but can anyone seriously say that that the 5.3 isn't a better choice if one likes or needs more power? I've heard that people are resistant to change but this is ridiculous. I've read on this forum, for over a year now, people buying this intake, buying that exhaust, sending their computer out to be reprogrammed, putting this performance gizmo on or that. Now, from the factory, we're going to have the choice of making the H3 a real performer in every aspect, not just offroad, and there's resistance!? I'm thinkin' that maybe some folks are worried about their diminished resale or something because I can't figure it out. Now, if I can just get Hummer to put in an integrated trailer brake controller and tow/haul mode for the tranny..... |
Re: V8 a reality.
Would I buy a V8 H3?... ... if GM put a traction control "OFF" switch in the I-5 that'd do it for me - ... anyway, back to the "would I buy one question"... I probably would, purely because here, fuel is no issue, and more importantly I bought a base H3 and REALLY wish I went for the Adventure.... :crying:
If/when a V8 H3 comes out :clapping: , I'm guessing it'll have the luxury and adventure packages as standard... they sure as hell aint gonna have the I-5 with various trim / options and the same for a V8 methinks!!! Cheers JFF :beerchug: |
Re: V8 a reality.
fyi - GMC Envoy V8 AWD new 2007 ratings are 13/19
Hummer H3 -I5 4WD new 2007 ratings are 14/18 Therefore expect no improvement in gas mileage with V8 H3. But a huge difference in usable power and torque.:fdance:But that lump of cast iron up front will do nothing for the onroad handling or offroad dynamics of the H3. Owners of current H3's will end up paying through the nose to trade-up, if you include the $15K loss on a 2006 traded-in. Later if I want a fast street SUV, I'll consider Ranger Rover Sport V8. |
Re: V8 a reality.
I'm fine with the I5 too.
When I feel the need for speed, I hop in the V6 Grand Caravan and sling the kids around.:jump: |
Re: V8 a reality.
I won't trade in right away, gonna trade my girlfriends fuckus for a JK, give her the H3 and trust me, she don't need no V8 (too many tickets already). Plus, for that kind of $$ I'll go w/a used H2 truck and have more room...

Agreed, I think they will sell well. H3's have been successful so far, and this seems like a viable option that will continue to drive good sales volume (4K H3s per month total).
