Hello Everybody! Off Topic of H3s but I'm looking for input..

I was out looking at new toys yesterday, specifically, the motorized, two wheel kind. I'm thinking of a sports- tourer motorcycle like the BMW R1200RT. I like the RT because of the longevity that BMW is famous for and I love the added luxuries that you usually don't find on other bikes: Heated grips, heated seats, electric cruise control, electric adjust windshield, ABS etc. Yeah, I know it's pretentious Euro trash compared to a Harley Road King Classic, but damn, what a sweet ride. I just don't know if I'm crazy about all the plastic on the redesigned front end. I had a ?99 RT and I think it was a better looking design. If there are any Beemer riders among us they'll most likely know what I mean.

I've looked at almost every type of bike out there from Agusta to Triumph, Ducati to Honda. I've looked at custom built bikes, kit bikes, choppers, cruisers and crotch rockets but I haven't found my one true love. I like the idea of being able to load up the bags for the weekend and hit the road. Maybe solo, maybe two up. I want something that will handle the twisties with grace and agility but also is comfortable to cruise on the long haul. Cost isn't really a factor. So...

What I'm asking of my fellow H3 owners, who obviously have exquisite taste in vehicles, is this:

If you could have any motorcycle out there what would it be... and why?

i ride and you came to the right place. anyways lets start with:
bmw, agusta, ducati, and triumph... all GAY. all expensive, all hard to repair, and afford to repair. you mentioned honda, i really like their st1300

It too comes with the electric windshield, and abs, heated grips are an option, as well as a wiring harness for your heated suit and whatnot. i think it is a direct competitor. anyways its an inline 4 cyl compared to the wierd beamer flat 2. the honda engine is plentiful and easy to find repair shops compared to probably the one beamer shop supporting your state.

save your money and get a superior bike. Japanese is the way to go. and I fully back suzuki products, (i ride a gsxr) but i dont think they have anything that comes close to the honda. i hate kawi's and yamahas for street. yamaha makes great dirt bikes tho. hondas i dont like for their super bikes.

edit: forgot to mention they are both shaft driven so you get the great smoothness. but in the riding world when it comes to street credit, beamer riders get none. they are looked at as the stiff lipped bastards, and wannabe posers ;)

Even though I like motorcyles and owned one when I was in college, I also view them as death machines (even worse are the crippling injuries). I find that a fast convertible sports car gives me some of the same thrills without the risk.

Something different that you might want to look at is the Can-Am Spyder, sort of a cross between a snowmobile and a bike, ride reports from the sled mags give it good reviews and looks cool as hell in person.

I loooove that BMW and have put some serious thought into buying one. But then I see something like this and I scratch it off my list for another year.

There is no ONE bike..

Harley Ultra Classic... If you have to ask.. I can't explain.. Seriously.. Or at least I'm not going to..

BMW R1200 GS Adventure.. It's the Hummer of the motorcycle world..

Ducati 999s.. Once again, if you have to ask... Yada Yada Yoda..

And those don't even get close to covering everything you need a bike to do...

You mean lesser risks, right?

I've had 2 Kawi Ninjas & a Buell. The president's son (of the company I work for) had a terrible bike accident. He got hit at an intersection which by the way is the most common motorcycle-related accident. The accident tore the poor guy up from top to bottom. Luckily, he somehow survived & since they are multi-millionaires, he's done restorative surgery & therapy after his body healed. Sold my bikes after that.

Oh, that's better. Now you can spend 40K on a bike and get run over by a geo since they sit so low to the ground. :jump:

I have seen those. They are very cool, but dangerous just as any bike.

I just sold my 600rr and my zx10r is on the way out too. It's just not worth it to me anymore. Hell, most of the dumb5hit drivers in Denver can;t see a lifted HUMMER. :twak:

Meh... I was kidding about safety... but it's gotta be more safe than a normal motorcycle. You've got some stuff to keep you from going flying in an impact.

There are a few things I would change on it but it's still pretty cool. I was looking at one not too long ago, definitely fun to whip around in... but you can get so many cooler toys for $50k.

to me the ONLY bike is a HD... look into a V-Rod

I thought there was nothing left of the motorcyclist, because I saw that smudgeyness on the door and figured he got vaporized. Then I realized he was hanging from the door by his chin... :D

I can't see the fun in getting on a bike. Granted, I fly down steep, icy slopes with trees, rocks, and other people crazier than myself all around, and death nipping at my heels. But I still think bikes are death machines. If I wanted a fun machine, I'd choose a roadster which gives me some room for error if I do something dumbass. Plus you get airbags, ABS, seatbelts, etc. Still not the safest vehicles, but a lot better than a motocycle.

Or if you want the ultimate roadster, just buy a used H1 VLCO! :D

that is one nasty freaking accident.

When i was a child, we rode past an accident that the rider of a motorcycle hit a guardrail, his helmet was shattered as was his head. Its a sight that I will never ever forget and wish i'd never seen it. Suffice it to say, i'd never get on the road on a bike.

I do enjoy riding a quad offroad...but take it easy. Too old to be busting myself up. I have to say the Honda quads are very nice machines.
