Cooper Discovery SST
I found what a believe to be a pretty good deal on these tires in my area through a buddy's shop. $750 for 4 315's, mounted and balanced. Obviously I will be getting a fifth tire ($850 m&b, out the door), but I wanted to find out if anybody is familiar or had experience using them on any rig. They look a lot like the Toyos as far as tread pattern. I dont know if they are a cheap version of the Toyos? Softer rubber maybe? Not as durable? I haven't seen them really until this weekend. Thanks for any input all! :beerchug:

Re: Cooper Discovery SST
I would do the Nitto for a few dollars more. make sure they are tripple ply and speed rated. I looked and can't find anything wrong with them. White letters suck
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
haha white letters. You can flip them around so you see the black letters only. My brother has the Nitto AT and those are nice, but I want a MT and I am not particular to the way the Nittos MT look as far as the tread pattern. Not to take away from performance at all. I know thats shallow, but hey Im crazy. I like more of a standard tread pattern, BFGs, Toyos, and the Yoko Geolander MTs. I would even go out on a limb and say I love the looks of Super Swampers, but they are too outrageous for a daily driven vehicle. :beerchug:
I cant find anything negative either, thats why I was looking for personal experience. |
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
I don't have personal experience with the discoverys, yet. They are my choice when I get 35's. They have siping which is a must in Oregon, and have tough sidewalls.

when i was purchasing 315s the discovery were one of the choices i was going with. the only reason i went with the toyos because i like the outer sidewall pattern, looked a bit more agressive. i could not find anything wrong with them as i looked around. I do not know if they are sipped as the toyos are, but thats not a deal breaker for me. in my opinion if you get a good deal, i dont know what a good deal would be, it will not be a bad choice at all. hopefully someone with first hand experience will let you know. do a search of teh forum. i beleive some on here have them and i beleive they have said something about them in teh past. good luck. |

The Nittos suck for an all-around tire. :twak: Toyos > all :D ;) But the Coopers are a good alternative for a mix of off-road performance and on-road manners. |

all in the mind of the purchaser.....do you like the look, the ride, the service, was the expierence a good one....sounds like you got a good deal.. |
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
I have the Cooper STT and love them. Aggresive sidewall, Armortek, GREAT off road.

Thats what I am looking for. Thanks guys! :beerchug: |
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
I have the coopers too, I love them....Do not hesitate to get them. Quiet for an MT on the highway, ok in the rain. Great in the mud and snow. They make the truck look as it should...mean. They are great in the mud and snow and I have thanked god I got them in many situations. The price you got sounds very good. Mine for the five M&B were just over $1000 here in Philly.

Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Awesome! Thanks!:beerchug:

Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Thanks
Nothing is too aggresive! it's a HUMMER! |
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
yeah you know I almost bought a set of super swamper just for the fact that they are soo outrageous, and no one on here is running them, but then I would have to buy new tires every 10k miles. :giggling:
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
and your point?
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Im on the fence, dick. :giggling: :beerchug:

Re: Cooper Discovery SST
I love that sound man. Everybody turns to see what the hell that noise is. I had them on my scout, so I am very familiar with it.

Re: Cooper Discovery SST
I have the coopers as well. Great tire. Excellent in mud and on rocks, and not too loud on the road. Nittos are all show and no go IMO.
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
These tires rock!!! I've had them on for a couple of months and I love them.
DO IT, DO IT!!!:beerchug: |
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
I would love to pick up a an extra set of rims w/ TPS', but Im in California. Freight would be ridiculous. :beerchug:
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Thats a good idea. Keep my mpg up with the stockers and save rubber on the swampers. Are dealers pretty reasonable when it comes to resale of takeoffs?
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Nice.
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
When all 5 of my tires got vandalized (stabbed) the dealer sold me 5 brand new tires on brand new crome rims m & b for $1200!
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Gotta say I luv my SST's, had them on since late March 07 and have about 18k miles on them. Seem to be wearing as expected, I'd guess I'll get around 35-40K on them by end of next year and be ready for a new set of shoes. Price was right around $900 for 5 M&B with free rotations for life of tires. I get them rotated about every 8000 miles. BTW they total change the attitude of the truck... BADAZZZZ....

Re: Cooper Discovery SST
nice. :beerchug: No doubt in my mind now these are a quality tires.
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Where can I find a good price for these online? All I seem to find are the STT's, is that an old tread pattern or something?
|
Re: Cooper Discovery STT
No those are the ones. I f-ed up when I named the thread (sausage fingers). I see them on ebay every now and then for decent prices on 4, roughly $700-$750 but then you figure shipping and then mounting and balancing. Not soo great. I have a couple mom and pop tire stores in my area that usually have pretty good prices, if have any of those, hit them up. Otherwise price check everywhere and see who gives you the best service. Ease of sale and installment has a lot to do with it for me. I pay more for good customer service. :beerchug:

Re: Cooper Discovery STT
dude stagger, can your friend drop ship? cuz i want that hookup too ;)
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Basically he is not charging me the mounting and balancing. What do you think that would cost to ship? Figure, what, maybe 150$? Cost of tires, Palletize it, shrink wrap and shipping all together, would probably end up costing you about the same as it would if you bought locally. Sometimes these ebay tire stores will offer free shipping. I have seen a few that are decent deals. Although I'll hit him up and see what he thinks and let you know. :beerchug:

Re: Cooper Discovery SST
hell yeah! woodinville washington 98072 ;) i got my own hookup for mount and balance out here! maybe you can put together a group buy!
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
We'll really just have to make sure it will be worth it to you. I'll see him this weekend, camping in San Jacinto Mountains, and I'll let you know. :beerchug:

Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Pro: Coopers are made in USA :perfect10s:
Con: Coopers were part of large recall in 2002 because of poor quality (read-people getting killed on 'em!) :crying::crying::crying: |
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
Wow. Thats scary. Did you have a link to more info on that?
|
Re: Cooper Discovery SST

On the other hand, recent recall apparently did not involve known fatalities but did involve Discovery S/T: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11328815/ |
Re: Cooper Discovery SST
there is an article in the Sept07 Four Wheeler about Cooper STT's; they give them good rating, the subtitle reads " A grippy tread that works well in mud, rocks and snow".
..I'm myself out for set of tires too, so I bought the magazine because this issue has large TireTest section. I'm undecided so far what to get. I've been out of town (and away from my H3) for 3+ weeks, just got back home and so I'll start looking for tires again. |
