It finally happened
 

I finally got stuck real good.

I was at the beach with my neice 24 years old and her husband.
We went into a restricted area at the end of the beach.
The warning sign and fence were wiped out in a storm and went past the 6 mile point a couple of miles and the beach was at the high tide line and got real soft and deep and was impassable.
I decided to back up about 100 feet to were they were behind me to turn around.
I turn around and head out and they got stuck in a 89 pathfinder with 177,000 miles.(right at the tide line with it comming in)
I hooked them up and pulled them out like nothing and draged them backwards a couple of hundred feet to were it seamed it wasnt that bad.
They tryed to get going and got stuck again(I could see his cluch was slipping real bad.)about 30 feet up from the high tide line.
Anyway I hooked them up and I got brought down to the frame in a few seconds .It turns out the cluch is compleatly gone and the dead weight was to much to pull.(a winch would have done it)

At this point I called the ranger for tow info for him and started digging out.when I removed all the sand under the truck I pulled right out and atempted to snap him out a couple times and stoped when I started digging in backed out of it and finally gave up.

The ranger said if the sign/fence was up there would be a $2,500 fine and no one went down that section in 5 years.(if we left it abandoned a $60,000 fine)

Called some tow companys they wanted $250 hook up and $100 a mile to a paved road:raar:

We found one for $450 for off the beach 7 miles and to his home 15/20 miles away.

Theres no way I would have got stuck if I didnt attempt a recovery.
The first time it came right out so I didnt snap it at all when I got stuck(stupid) It didnt work anyway after I got out and tryed it again and again.

Bob my brother in law flaked out and left with his pickup next thing I know hes at the exit airing down :twak:
He did make tow calls from home and found a tow but Onstar was trying for me at the same time.
You dont leave with someone stuck definatly not a relative:raar:

I dug out easy enough to get out.

Ill list the video(not GR8) when I put it on putfile.

Im real glad we didnt end up out at sea the tide was comming in.If it did a 08 alpha would be a nice replacement.


I must of hit over 20mph ,when I unhooked the pathfinder the locker was off.It didnt budge

do you think airing down to 12 psi or so would have helped?

I was at 17 psi . I had no problem on that beach section till he got stuck because of cluch slippage(it didnt help that a 1/2 hour before he got stuck in a 1 1/2 foot mud hole/hill on the back trails and beat the crap out of it to get out:giggling: )I went through it very easy with a little speed 4low/locker

Also I was down on the skidplate/frame/rear and the sand was compacted in there.

After I got out I tried a 10 foot snap and it just stoped me and started to dig in I backed out and tried it again ,it didnt budge.
If he was able to get his wheels spinning it would have came right out.

Yeh ... the pathfinders light also,if you could get the wheels going its easy to push.
New rule: no hoopties on the beach:giggling:

30 seconds to fill,good for 45 minutes airs down slow or as fast as 5 seconds.

You need a winch and pull pall, been there done that recovering a Toyota truck pulled us both out no problem:)

The winch on the tow truck draged it out easy enough.
But if your stuck alone the bag would work and its only $145.00

I go alot of places alone, that was why I bought the pull pall, don't get me wrong, I like the air bag but have been stuck in wet sugar sand that is like quick sand just because you get up and out from the bag, if you put the sand back in below your tires once you lower back down you would just sink all over again:crying:

The pull pal looks good but you need a winch.
The bag looks good for the cost,I havent got
stuck in 2 1/2 years.

Anyone use one of these bags ?

Sand will do that to ANY rig under the right conditions. A winch definitely would have helped. I've righted a snow bogged transit bus onto the road using my front winch hooked to the bus and my rear winch pulling at the same time hooked up to a telephone pole. Winch and pullpal is the best investment if you're doing things like beach bombing. It does all the work and it's cheaper to replace if it were to break down.

:iagree: a winch with a pull pal is the best way to get a stuck rig out.
Im going to buy a 16 to 18 ft camper with a budget of around $10,000 I dont want to spend $600 + on a winch setup and $300 for a pull pal knowing I would almost never need to use it.(I mostly do moderate wheeling and wouldnt have got stuck if I backed off and repositioned for another futile atempt at pullin a dead rig out.
I also have a good sence when to back off (usually due to the steps)
Also I dont think I can tap in anymore wires on my battery without putting in a 2nd battery.
I already have a 10 gauge going to the trailer plug,A 12 gauge to the onboard compressor,a 14/16 ? gauge going to my under hood light,a 14 gauge going to my airhorn.
No room for a monster wire to power a winch.
For $145 (including shipping )the bag looks good for a emergency and will stow easy under my doggie bed if I take out 1 pillow.

Dam I pay $145 for a nice dinner and drinks for 4 people, Ill skip a night out for a seafood bouillabaisse (Mmmm)and a few tequila sunrises.:beerchug:

La Casa Cafe (on the water )is closed till april :crying: they only use to close for January..The bouillabaisse has clams, steamers, mussles , sea scallops, in a seafood stock over linguine.

I think I read the H3 has a 120 amp alt.The alpha's is more ,I could find the original tread.

Fourfourto .. we won't be able to compare that rear groan sound in our H3's anymore. I traded my H3 in for a new 2008 Graystone Metallic H2 yesterday. I loved the H3 .. but the H2 was always what I had hoped for. By the way, the pics of your H3 here look great. :D

Hey a couple easy tips for beach wheeling that you might already know but others might not.

MacGyver #1. If you get stuck in deep sand with no shovel, you can take your floor mats out and flip them upside down(Carpet side down). Then jam them under the front of your wheels. then put it in 4 low 1st and give it just enough gas to start sucking the mats under your wheels. It won't be long until the friction between the carpet and the sand is great than what it takes it pull yourself out, as it acts like a flexible ramp. Floormats are not preferred for usually, but they will always work in a pinch. If you want to come prepared, bring along 4 strips of 1 foot wide 4 feet long of HD cheap carpet.

MacGyver #2. If you don't have floor mats and no carpet, but do happen to have a couple coke bottles lying around the truck, go fill them with water from the ocean. Dump a the equivilent of 2-3 gallons around the tires and let it seap in. Wet sand is denser and more inclined to stick to itself rather than split and spin out the back. If at first you spin out, well you need more water! Sounds stupid, but this your best skitouttaluck trick to bring with you.

The water trick sounds good but if your on the frame it wont work.
I only would use the carpet/mats if the ocean was going to overtake me.
