Re: iPhone with 3G
But is the bloody thing going to work in Korea - I am relegated to a samsung POS that works in Korean - I am sure there is some way of fixing that but the manual is in squiggles.

I kept thinking that it took so long for his other thread to disappear that the mention of something related to it here might cause someone to bring it back from the grave.... |
Re: iPhone with 3G
I've got some good news for all of you with the current iPhones - I was talking with the phone monkeys at the AT&T store this afternoon and they said that when the new iPhones come out with 3G that Apple will put out an firmware upgrade which will make the 1st generation phones 3G capable. I haven't bothered to confirm it on the nerd sites for confirmation.

I am at work and therefore have plenty of time to check the nerds - from what I can find the nerds say NO and the journos say YES. Apparently they did not go with 3g originally due to the chipset being too power hungry or something like that - and another thought is that too many people have ripped the thing apart to wriggle around in the guts of them to not have discovered that they are 3g capable. The nerds also point out that they would commit suicide or plant bombs on Job's car or other fanatical acts of lunacy if Apple have been hiding 3g from their uber loyal (specky geek freaks) customers. So I think - no - not without a hardware upgrade - there seems to be no support for the 3g chipset secretly hidden in the iphone - I wish there was - but it seems unlikely. |
Re: iPhone with 3G
That's what I told the phone monkeys, but they tried to convince me that, oh, it was only going to require a firmware update. I'm pretty sure that's not possible.

Re: iPhone with 3G
For all the cash these companies make from these devices, I think the FCC should up the filing fees a bit for the device. Don't we pay a FCC tax on cell phone bills? How about getting rid of that. :soapbox:

Re: iPhone with 3G
I'll prob be sticking to iPhone, 3G or not.
The plastic cover over my iPhone's camera lens has become scratched up causing soft photos. Today I brought it to an Apple store, sign-up & waited 20minutes for a Genius, who took one look, and promptly exchanged my 9-months old iPhone for a brand-new one. This kind of warranty service I LIKE A LOT! |

Did you purchase it through Apple, or AT&T? I am planning on purchasing one once I get out of Iraq. |
Re: iPhone with 3G
Bought at AT&T. Bring to Apple store for any service.

Re: iPhone with 3G
Well I for one am pleased with the delay. It gives me some time to work on the "why I need the 3G version" conversation with the wife. My script is pretty good, but it needs some polishing.
Then again, if she gives me any flack I could pull a Jamie and berate her here on the forum. :jump: |

Re: iPhone with 3G
Wonder if there is any way to connect my iPhone 3G to my H3 radio using an earphone jack. This guy at my job has a Tundra with a built in stereo earphone input jack and it works with my iPhone very well. I see two black plastic stop-up plugs on my H3 that look like the radio could have an optional jack. Wonder if it is possible.
