Well I cant believe I paid 200 bucks for this after coming from the "C5 Corvette mod world" as you get alot more "physical product" for your money.
This "system" is a few peices of metal and a rubber gasket and basically a 20.00 K&N air filter. Install was easy enough that a retarded drunk monkey could do it in less than 10 mins. Results are mixed: I do notice that the system has recognized a major airflow chage because its not down shifting at WOT like it was before. And, these new PCMs take up to 500 miles before they adapt to the new air meter map readings the sensor is picking up. So we will realy have to wait before I place my final judgement. Sound: I do now notice that the engine is making A LOT more noise when i gas it. The engine bay is can now be heard over the radio when turned up (LOL) and again makes me think some power will be netted from the install once the computer learns the new airflow raito and places the paramerters in the long term tables in the computer. I thought I would notice more "initial" pedal response however its quite the oposite, as its more slugish now right into the throttle. But again I think this is due to the PCM needs to relearn and adjust. I wish I had AutoTap so I could have taken some before and after readings to see whats going on now as in too rich or too lean etc.. Anyways here are some pics to eyeball over: clicky |

I think the SMA system includes the complete air filter box.. not sure though, but the one that you got looks kinda cheap... Well, I went back out and took the airraid bracket system off.
I did leave the airraid filter in and but the stock cover on Then went for a drive and I am really impressed with the noticeable performace gains felt by the seat of the pants. I have no idea how much but it really felt more responsive. /shrug |

I went out to take a look at the stock air filter system and I could't understand what the airraid bracket system does... I actually thought of buying the K&N filter and just replace the stock filter, do you think that would work bparker? |
Yep, and thats the way I will leave it too. I am happy with just the K&N filter for now.

I have also replaced stock air filter with the K&N one that came with the intake.I have put the stock air cover back on and have noticed a bigger difference this way.I know it sounds strange but it does feel a littel more peppy.

Sma is the Air-raid and yes it is not much. a chip mod will help even more but I would wait for someone to perfect it first. Watch for a waring light if the mass air flow sensor is tweeked. It sometimes happens..

The one I bought was a perfect match. The picture is not the picture of the one they sent me. It must just be the stock pic they use. The one I bought was the same size on top and bottom. The install was about 29 seconds, and funny the stock one was barely hangin on, not tied down at all... Oh well, here is the pic of the part number, and box. I paid $39.95 and $6.00 to ship it and it was here in 2 days from Cali. The link to the auction is above, i am sure they have more...

I do know that the air cleaner box for the H3 is the same one used on the Colorado I5.

I've been reading what the Colorado owners say about the Air Intake system. They basically just replaced the filter also, but some of them removed the cover from the stock box. I'm trying to get the maximum efficiency out of my H3. Keep us informed. Thanks

I tried it with and without the cover on. I noticed no difference whatsoever by adding the filter, and or with the cover on or off. I did notice when I opened the cover, and removed the stock filter, that the stock filter was barely even attached to the intake. Meaning it was not tight at all... Almost just sitting there. I like the K & N because of the ring, and screw that can be tightened.

So posted a differnt thread on availble add-on's... or should I say things that are still NA. So for those that have only replaced the stock airfilter with the E 0773 K & N filter..... how about an update?
1)Was it worth it? 2) DId it change anything? 3) Did your mass airflow sensor get ruined from the oil as dealers claim? 4) Do you feel it gave you more HP? |
I fell the clamp on K & N is a better connection than the stock filter. The stock filter could easily suck un-filtered air at its connection to the tube. I have not noticed any gain in HP. I have six vehicles all with K & N's. I have used them for a good decade. Oil on a mass sensor is unlikely unless a person would really over oil a filter.

If no over-oiled it cannot affect the warranty. However, what I'm trying to figure out is why everyone is going to K&N filters if they intend to off-road this vehicle. It is a well known fact that paper elements filter more dirt particles than the oil based filters. In addition, from my experiences with a Vette when on a Dyno, the K&N filter added no more horsepower than the stock designed paper filter. In fact, during some runs with some friends, gains were seen with the paper filters over the K&N. |
