Gas mileage
This may be a really dumb question, but is any H2 owners actually getting decent gas mileage? I realize adding wheels and tires will affect it but I'm just curious as to what everybody else had.
Thanks Austin |
Re: Gas mileage
37" tires, 4.56 gears, aftermarket headers/exhaust, performance tune: 11.3 in winter, 11.7 in summer.
It was about the same when it was stock. |
Re: Gas mileage
I think I just need a few performance parts so it doesn't have to work so hard. It sucks that GM put this massive engine in this extremely heavy ride and it has hardly any horsepower, as opposed to what it could really produce.
|
Re: Gas mileage
2005, 37" tires, 6 inch fabtech lift, cold air intake, superflow exhaust, 10.2 mpg
|
Re: Gas mileage
I looked at mine today..exactly 10.2 mpg. And yours has a six inch lift with 37's! Man I'm getting ripped here.
|
Re: Gas mileage
Stock tires and exhaust, 12.7 mpg mixed city/highway driving.
|
Re: Gas mileage
What kind of exhaust? And that's not too bad right there, I would take 12.7 easily!
|
Re: Gas mileage
I have a 2004 with stock wheels, tires, exhaust and CAI. I average 12.4 with mixed city/HWY, but mostly HWY. Probably about 25%/75%.
|
Re: Gas mileage
2007 Stock everything. Driving from IL to MI 352miles, I am seeing highway between 18.6-19.5MPG. City driving AVG 12MPG
|
Re: Gas mileage
Well it seems everybody is averaging around 12 mpg in the city. Where I live I hardly ever do any highway driving. It's practically all city..I guess my tires are messing me up.
|
Re: Gas mileage
Avg 15.5 mpg City / Highway with stock tires..Seen 16+ mpg heading down to Vegas from Utah. A few minor adjustments can make the H2 mpg comparable to most trucks.. :beerchug:

Re: Gas mileage
Haha. That's what I'm saying! I mean I dont stomp on mine everywhere and I still get 10.2!! 15 blows me out of the water! How do y'all do it?! I must have the best gas guzzling '08 they made. Lol
|
Re: Gas mileage
I don't how some people are figuring the mileage but there is only one way to get an accurate result (below). Does anybody do this are all we all just trusting what is says on the dash, mine goes fron 11.9 to 12.9 and never changes even if I drive all highway. I wonder how accurate it is?
Best way is to fill up your tank, then set your trip meter to zero. Drive your car until you need gas the next time. When you fill up your car again read how many gallons of gas you put in then take the trip meter reading and divide by the gallons of gas to get MPG. EX. 350 mile were driven and you placed 10 gallons of fuel back in the car. SO 350/10 =35MPG |
Re: Gas mileage
I've done that too...'cause, just like you, I was curious about how accurate the computer was. My calculations were pretty much spot on with what the computer estimated.
I do see a difference though depending upon where I'm driving. Just before a cross country trip from MD to UT I reset the computer and jumped on the interstate; when I got to UT my average was 15.9...but that was basically ALL highway miles. I haven't reset it for a while now...I guess I just stopped thinking about it. The general temperature seems to effect it too...slightly...mid winter it'll read 11.3 or 11.4; mid summer it'll read 11.7...even if it's lying to me what am I gonna do about it?! LOL! I still love to drive it...so I keep filling it up. |
Re: Gas mileage
well i beat all of you! stock height suspension, 35' toyos and im getting 8.8 mpg in dallas city living :jump: needless to say i spend a lot of time and $ at the pump
|
Re: Gas mileage
Damn BigZ!.... i run 40's and I'm still doing better than you!! I get around 9.8mpg to 10.2.... you most really be drag racing that thing every day:D
|
Re: Gas mileage
Haha. I guess there's not much I can do either. I guess I'm gonna keep adding and keep filling up! Haha
|
Re: Gas mileage
Dang 8.8 means really flippin out the wallet every time you pump! At 3.30 or so a gallon its about $100 for me to completely fill up from almost bone dry.
Sucks!! And then I turn it on to see a 280 some odd mile fuel range! |
Re: Gas mileage
last i checked i was at 8.9 mpg
gave it a tune up a few months ago, it really dipped from about 9.5 after i cleaned the air filter on my K&N CAI 37 inch KM2 predator tuner stock gears |
Re: Gas mileage
So I guess theres not much hope unless you leave it dead stock. Haha. Oh well!
|
Re: Gas mileage
I get 10.2, mixed driving. You can see my mods below...

I can understand your case..you have a ton more weight to carry with a lift and all the extra mods. I think performance parts may help mine a little but it doesn't really matter I guess. The gas mileage will suck regardless..haha |
Re: Gas mileage
My stock 09 is getting 12.0 to 12.5 mostly in town driving.
|
Re: Gas mileage
Again, It's a Hummer H2, Your only going to get good MPG going down hill in the SOB!!!:giggling:

you know im at the track all the time racing my beast Andres. thats why i added the demonguard and gobi... for superior aerodynamics :giggling: Oh and last time i filled my tank up it had about 220ish miled till empty... F*CK ME! :twak: |
Re: Gas mileage
If ONLY hummers ran about 15 mpg across the board!! Hummers would be the absolute baddest rides on the planet if you weren't shelling out a million bucks at the pump! Stupid that the government relies so heavily on others for gas/oil, and then they jack the price up for all of it when we don't even really have a shortage.

Re: Gas mileage
In the winter months I get anywhere from 10.8-11.2 in the summer 11.7-12.5 (I tend to tow more in the summer so it varies more). I have not really road tripped the 08 yet but I have driven on a couple of 200 mile round trips snowboarding this winter and Im not too impressed with the mileage on the highway (now I typically drive ~75mph) but it seems to not get any better than about 12-13...... Oh well, didnt buy it for economy:D
|
Re: Gas mileage
Stock size wheels and tires, no other engine/exhaust mods.
All city driving is high 8s.. and I've used the fill up, drive, fill back up formula several times. Get on the highway and I'm about 12. I drive 65-75 MPH... |

Woo..not gonna lie that's rough. |
Re: Gas mileage
Couldn't tell you because I don't care. I don't own 3 Hummers because I care about gas mileage. Instead I would a Prius, Focus, or some other stupid little 4 wheel piece of crap.:clapping:

Ya seems low to me as well. However when I look back on all of the new cars that I've had, and used, I'm always below the average gas mileage. I think it's just the way I drive. |
sweet spot rpm for better freeway mpg
I have to commute 2x a week with my h2 about 100 miles each way, 400 total miles per week- all freeway miles. I have 37 inch tires , (inflated to 50 psi )with 4:56 gears, I try to drive at about 2k rpm (equals to 63 mph) which seems to give me better mpg on the computer (not sure if this is BS or not).
What other minor tweaks can can I do to improve the mpg on the freeway? Or should I juss say **** it and enjoy the commute? Im not sure if babying it even helps on the freeway. |

What are you getting right now? |
Re: sweet spot rpm for better freeway mpg
Quote:
It is all over the place, depends on how I drive, elevation, where I am going, etc. My computer says now 11.4 mpg avg. I am going to baby it on this weekly commute I have and check the results manually. |
Re: sweet spot rpm for better freeway mpg

11.4 is still a good bit better than the 10.2 I get with my 35's..I'd take that in a heartbeat! Do you think something like a wester's hot tune, or something of that nature would help? |
