This is a fine example of why Hummers get a bad rap and why most off-road enthusiasts don't take these trucks seriously.

Once again I am reminded a life lesson: Too often people do something because they can without first considering whether they should. :lame:

man! a bunch of haters here! come on guys. just because its not lifted with 40's doesnt mean its not a hummer. ill bet that once those bags go up, it sits higher than some of the hummers on here.

guruerror 03-06-2012 02:08 PM

Re: THE OFFICIAL HUMMER AND BABE PICTURE THREAD! (no nudity please)

That's the sad part...it IS still a Hummer.

It doesn't matter how 'high it sets' with its 'bags up'...it's the perversion of the vehicle from its intended purpose that makes it DUMB.

Do that sh!t to a Rubicon and post it on the Jeep forum and I bet you get the same response.

Re: THE OFFICIAL HUMMER AND BABE PICTURE THREAD! (no nudity please)

Yeah but it's not yours. It's theirs. If he wanted it like this, that fine. It's his/hers. There's probably a lot of stuff done to others that they may not like. This is the freedom of customization. I don't like donks but if someone does, then good for them. I actually wish I could have put bags on mine. It would have made it a hell of a lot easier to get my dogs in the back.

How do you feel about NASCAR? They race camrys and fusions at 180mph. That's not a camrys intended use though. It's all about the sport. Modding a car is based on personal preference. Obviously on an offload biased hummer thread, not a lot on here will like it. But there's a lot of hummer enthusiast who may like the look of it. Sure it may not be functional sitting on the ground but it looks cool to certain Individuals. People need to open up their minds abit and not be so damn judgmental. People on Camaro sites are the same way. That's why I stopped getting on some of them.

guruerror 03-06-2012 05:03 PM

Re: THE OFFICIAL HUMMER AND BABE PICTURE THREAD! (no nudity please)

THE SHORT OF IT: You're right...it's theirs and if they wanted it like that 'great' that's their right. In the same token my opinion is mine...and, to me, what they've done is DUMB.

THE LONG OF IT: The part that 'gets' me about this type of customization is that this 'pimp my ride' sh!t is why these trucks get so little respect in the 4x4 world and part of the reason that the brand doesn't exist any longer. If Hummers had been primarily purchased by outdoor/off-road enthusiasts they wouldn't have attracted all of the negative attention for being gas-guzzling 'status symbols.' Hummer could have happily flown under the radar like Jeep all the other full sized 4x4s in this world that got similar mileage. But because ours were perverted (sorry...'customized') like this over and over in the face of the media they became perceived as being elitist, gluttonous, symbols of over-indulgence making them a lightening rod for environmentalists which eventually made the brand so radioactive that nobody wanted it.

And if you still don't buy into what I'm getting at; tell me why Mopar continues to happily churn out 16MPG Wranglers, Toyota 17MPG FJs, and Ford can introduce an 11MPG Raptor and RAM the Power Wagon (they don't even post the MPG on that rig) and no one is vandalizing dealerships. These vehicles are designed for a similar purpose as ours...but yet no one is up in arms about them...they are not seen as harmful status symbols of the global-warming apocalypse. Why? Because they are, more often than not, bought buy individuals that use them for their intended purpose. I guarantee you, if the 'rich and famous' start choppin' and droppin' Power Wagons; blingin' them up with some 24s and rolling to red carpet events, Mopar will drop that truck like a bad habit too.

(wow...that was kind of a rant...lol)

...and I get your NASCAR reference, but I don't think that's an apples-to-apples comparison. Those aren't Camrys and Fusions...they're race cars with Camry/Fusion-esque shells on them simply to promote a particular brand and/or marque. Think more like someone lifting your Camaro, installing a 4x4 transfer case, and slapping on some 38" mud terrains...

Re: THE OFFICIAL HUMMER AND BABE PICTURE THREAD! (no nudity please)

Not to mention the Jeep SRT8 and Ram SRT8's..how about 12 mpgs a piece? And I will agree with both parties here, yes he should be able to customize it his own way, as everyone should. I just wish the Hummer brand didn't get bashed so much because it is perceived to the Greenies and "know it alls" as the flashy, showoff, useless, gas guzzling vehicle..which is simply not the case. WE have proved that! The hummer is easily the most misunderstood vehicle in the world. Sure it may not be the best offroader, or the most economical, but it is very useful and I find it to be a very good vehicle. It's different, and many many people hate that. But it bothers me that there are so many vehicles out there with similar gas mileage, and they only point the finger at the hummer H2.

AMEN! Too bad that vehicles aren't equipped with an outward facing LCD that displays their current MPG for all to see. The huggers would find out real quick...they're going to need more fingers.

had only offroaders bought the hummer, they wouldnt have made it as long as they did. hence the H3....

so your telling me because someone customizes their hummer,to a way you didnt like, their the reason the hummer gets a bad wrap for being a gas guzzler? thats a bunch of BS right there. you cant blame an existance on one group of people or the death on one.

Re: THE OFFICIAL HUMMER AND BABE PICTURE THREAD! (no nudity please)

if the hummer were ONLY sold to offroading enthusiast, the truck would get much worse mpg than it does now. you cant say that because someone put 30's on their hummer that they are the reason a whole cars existance is gone. thats has to be the most idiotic thing i have ever heard of. theres alot of things that the hummer got away with that other suv's and trucks didnt get away with. you need to do more research on the actual reasoning the hummer is gone and the actual perks the hummers got when they were created. theres a whole section your missing. and blaming anyone for customizing a car IS NOT the reason a car is dead or getting a bad wrap for gas mileage. the reason it gets a bad wrap is because its a 8k lbs brick with larger than average offroad tires that was branded under GM. CAFE rules and restrictions put this car to rest. it will also put many more cars to rest in the years to come. dodge gets away with things with the ram, because it is no longer a dodge product. certain amounts of units have to be sold to have certain regulations. dodge sells just under those regulations, so they dont have to pay certain fees, or regquire certain MPG's. theres alot of politics going on with this. just do some more research and youll find out the truth.

All of your links are old news...

What do you think thrust the H2 into this spot light? While similar MPG'ed consumer vehicles were left alone? Attention. What draws attention? Flamboyance.

Negative attention = reduced sales...the majority of consumers are programmable sheep. If someone says it's 'bad' then it must be 'bad.'

So a blacked out jacked up hummer isn't flamboyant? And doesn't draw attention? Or a bright red or bright yellow jacked up hummer? :raar:

Maybe...maybe not...but at least the "jacked up" aspect adds to the vehicle's intended characteristics and doesn't diminish them.

Let's just agree that we both think each other is an ignorant a55hole and drop this back and forth...

XOXO

People see only what they want to see..IGNORANCE. Step outside the box and do your homework. Plain and simple, if you drive a gas burning vehicle, you are NO better to the environment than the next guy. That's exactly how I look at it, if you can afford the gas (as pricey as it is now) then it's all the same. It's JUST preference on what you choose to drive.

I thought we agreed to disagree? I guess not...

WOW! Those are some fine specimens of 'chromology' that you've posted. The point I keep trying to make...and will put forth one final time (and I'll type slowly so it's easier to grasp)...the SUVs in your post above were designed to be 'street vehicles;' doing that type of customizing to those (while still silly IMO) is not completely contrary to the vehicles design and purpose.

The H2, while still a consumer vehicle, was designed with off-roading in mind, so the same type of customization is VERY contrary to the vehicles design and purpose; thereby making it more noticeable and ostentatious. It becomes an "I can do this just because I can" kind of thing...which draws negative attention. And couple that with the fact that famous people were pushing these blinged vehicles (rappers, movie stars, athletes, etc.) makes it seem even more ostentatious...a symbol of 'excess'...a perfect target for a green-peace crusade.

OLIVE BRANCH: I'll concede that Bling alone did not kill the Hummer...but he was in the posse that brought the big boy down.

Re: The 'customization' thread

Trail or no trail, it looks like a practical street hummer. Keep in mind that probably 75% of h2 owners have never taken their car off road. I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm one of those guys. I didn't buy mine to go off road. I bought it because it looked bad ass and it was huge. That being said I'd rock the $hit out of that hummer and have no shame in it.

H2005 03-07-2012 03:57 PM

Re: The 'customization' thread

I drive them off-road for a living. They can go places that very few other vehicles can go. Believe it or not, it really was designed to go other places than just the mall.

2010_5thgen 03-07-2012 04:04 PM

Re: The 'customization' thread

Oh I believe it. I don't think I've made any fight about the capability of a hummer. I just don't use mine for that use.

so anyone customizing a h2 should ONLY do it, IF their customizing it to use it offload? And only make customizations to it to benefit it in the unlikely event that the will take it off road? Just because it was made to be a street able offloading truck..... But I think you have it backwards. The bummer is an offloading truck made for the street.

That seems to be where we differ...I bought mine because of it's capability. I wanted a full-size, recreational off-roader, the fact that it 'looked bad ass' and whatnot were secondary pluses. That's why some mods make sense to me and others seem completely ridiculous.

I'm a 'right tool for the job' kinda of guy...if I wanna drive a nail, I use a hammer; if I wanna screw a screw I use a screw driver. Sure I could drive the screw with the hammer...but why? That's not what it's for. I see Hummers as off-roaders, to keep them on the street 100% just seems like the wrong tool for the job. Don't get me wrong...it's got 4 wheels and it will roll over pavement just fine, but still the wrong too for the job in my book.

No...they should do what they want; like you said before, "It's theirs." It's just doesn't make sense to me to customize it any other way...maybe I'm muddling the term 'customize' with 'enhance.'
