I believe it is non-catholic christian or protestant, not that familiar with it though. dictionary def:One of the German princes and cities that supported the doctrines of Luther and protested against the decision of the second Diet of Speyer (1529) to enforce the Edict of Worms (1521) and deny toleration to Lutherans. Irish non the less maybe not back in the 1500's. I am Orange also.

Edd 03-17-2006 01:39 PM

Orange or green ..........I'll drink to that!

Goes back long time before even I was born. William III or England was originally from an area in Holland known as orange (not sure if it was a county or not). He married Queen Mary, thus becoming King of England. He was responsible for beating the Irish Catholics such as the Jacobites at the siege of Derry, Boyne and a few other places.
There are protestant organizations in Ireland known as Orange institutions.
So, since my Dad was an Irish Protestant (Mom was Scottish), I do not wear green on St. Pat's Day, even if I am a Deist.
When I was younger, I did partake in the drinking and eating, but always wearing Orange.
