I am sure that this subject has been covered. But Hell Let me try again. Regarding the air horns systems I 've seen posted on the forum that are installed under the hood. For those of you who have them installed.. DO they get in the way for any engine maitenence or repairs. Thanks for any info.

if you install it where the manufacturer wants you to... then not really. you might have some problems getting to your spark plugs on that side, especially the rear two.

Thanks.. I may stick to the siren speaker.. Sad thing is that there are no local stores who stock H2 toys.. SO we can not see them before we buy them.. INternet is great, however nothing is better then fondling the toys before ordering.. Mike

i dont have anything like that either... I just but a couple of different things that look like it might work, and send back what I dont use. sure, it is a bit more on shipping, but it sucks when you have things off the truck, and you find out the one thing you didnt buy, you need. I hate taking things apart more then once.

Whelen Electronic Air Horn

Centerfire 11-23-2003 10:26 PM

Thanks.. I've used these for a number of years with Whelen or federal sirens.. They are loud. I have a 200 wait control box and I use two horns on my suburban, one facing forward and one rear... Nice ..However just not the same sound as a real airhorn.. STill wish I could see the set up in person.

If you have a semi-repair/parts house in the area you can get super airhorns there also. We have a used place around here and I got a set of horns for $40 2 yrs back with air valves and stuff, when I hit em people jump... ..Now if my buddie in the railroad will send me some train horns......

RonA 11-26-2003 04:16 AM

I purchased the kit that installs under the hood. They work great. If need by to install plugs you have only to unbolt 3 bolts. 5 minutes at the most. The install was easy with the exception of going thru the firewall gasket. The job take less than 30 minutes.

So . you have to use a lanyard rather then a button to operate?

I just installed this last week, I love it. 2 bolts & 2 spade connectors will remove it for a spark plug change otherwise it is not really in the way of anything.

Mike

using a 'button' just plain sucks. you have no ability to control the volume of air you put through the horn, hence no ability to control the volume of the horn.

the lanyard allows very precise horn control. the button, has a slight delay in the on and off. the lanyard has the ability to give a friend a toot, that wont deafen them, and at the same time will allow you to deafen some ******* who pulls out in front of you.

I know of this one we can order it from RealWheels as POPGUNS is now a Dealer for Realwheels.. We have not investigated the install.. I believe it too may use the lanyard..

Not sure, as I said we have just added the ,line a couple of weeks ago, and will be a couple more before my web master gets the stuff on line..

Navigator 01-11-2004 08:26 PM

I havent had any problems controlling the horn with the steering wheel. It even works with the remote double lock, gives the short little toot.

I pulled the install instructions off Realwheels site for their Airhorn.. It is installed directly to the Factory Horn . The instructions have you install a toggle switch. This allows you to either use factory horn or both factory and airhorns..

I added one to our order should be here by the end of the week. hope to install it Sunday.

my horns are 135 dB's.... loud... unimpeded by engine compartment.... and with a large airtank... am able to sustain a decent blast without hitting on the compressor.

Would it be possible for someone to post a wav file of their air horn so we could 'try before we buy', sort of like the sound samples you can get for the Corsa exhaust?

unaslob 01-17-2004 03:07 PM

i have the wolo horn...

check out www.wolo-mfg.com

they have all the horn sounds on there.
