OK, here's the problem. As you see in the picture (not my H3), the circled area shows where the roof moldings meet. They should be flush against each other, right? Well on mine, there is about a quarter inch or more space between the moldings on both the passenger and drivers side. Not only that, the trim/molding underneath where they are supposed to meet is severly cracked/damaged. Has anyone else noticed this problem? I have warranty service visit scheduled next week have it looked at. My guess is it has been @ 40 below zero the last 2 weeks and I have to slam the doors to close them (Bulletin #05-08-64-002A Door Latch Freezing In Cold Temperatures). Then again, the piece that's cracked doesn't appear to be impacted when slamming the doors, so I don't know! I just noticed it today at work so I cant get an actual picture until tonight. oh, and I don't have the marker lights, so is there supposed to be gap there? Eitherway, the underneath shouldnt be cracked open! Any thoughts or similar problems out there?

thanks all

Mine are not flush, and if you have had Marker lights and or Roof racks installed, it could have just been put back together a little out of alignment. No biggy.

There is a fix, but it will take a little disassembly, are you wanting to do this? I can help.

partsguy 01-30-2006 06:17 PM

As far as the gap it is what it is.But the cracked roof rail is a problem. It is an installation fopa.
They are working on how to install it so the rail will not crack. The parts are not avaible
untill a fix is found.

H3 Hummer 01-30-2006 06:41 PM

Mine is this way and I think it squeaks, they are not cracked but there is a noticeable gap.

fourfourto 01-30-2006 07:22 PM

Mine has small gap I did bring it in at last service because right side wasnt clipped properly ,that fixed it also the left side had crack in roof plastic they ordered it and Im still waiting for it to come in.They are covering it under warranty no hassle.I will have them install new plastic at next oil change Ill have them look at the rear washerpump at that time that is on recall probobly get tires rotated and leave the truck for the day.Maybee they will give me a h2 loaner

Correct, it is a known problem on a few.

Everyone....
Thanks as usual for all the feedback.

HummBebe: Thanks for the assistance, but I will probobly just have the dealer deal with it. Oh, and I don't have maker lights OR roof rails.

Hey, that's my rig!

BABHUMV 01-30-2006 11:57 PM

Mine is at the dealer today and that is one of the things I pointed out to them. There is a gap and the piece is cracked underneath. They said warranty. Better be!

I am getting the DVD headrests and marker lights installed. Dealer screwed schedule up so I won't get it back for a three days . Gave me a Caddy to drive, so not too upset. Just not my Hummer though.

How much for the DVD headrests installed if you don't mind me asking? I would like to get a set.

thedieter 02-01-2006 02:44 AM

Our Poppy (as in California Poppy) has a gap in that location, which doesn't concern us but there is a small crack about 1/4" long on one side.

On aircraft we drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it from progressing and I am considering doing that to this crack. I wonder if that would prevent warrantee repair at a later time.

Best regards, Happy Jack

Bruce 02-01-2006 11:25 AM

yes mine is likke that as well. and mine is also cracked on the drivers side front

NJHummerGuy 02-01-2006 11:00 PM

Samething here....cracked on driver side as well.

H3Eric 02-02-2006 01:10 AM

I had clapping wind noise from from the A Pilars coverings on top where they are overlapping the long plastic parts. Then I also noticed that there were cracks like you describe. My dealer confirmed the same as replied earlier. It is a warranty fix as soon as Hummer understands what the problem is and how to repair this.

HummBebe 02-02-2006 01:22 AM

Can someone post an actual pic?????

Mike of Iowa 02-02-2006 01:55 AM

Mine was cracked as well. I went to the dealer and found 5 more with the same problem. GM called me yesterday to ask how I like the H3 and they are aware of the assembly problem.

Mike

CO Hummer 02-02-2006 02:47 AM

I'm not sure I'd drive your rig in that condition. Tow it to the dealer and see if you get out of it under a lemon law.

usetosellhummer 02-02-2006 12:22 PM

Welcome to Hummer fit and finish. Try to explain the H1 body

DCCP 02-02-2006 05:12 PM

got the same problem as well don't know how it happened but this should be a recall.

FishnMan 02-02-2006 06:01 PM

Wow...I really opened up a can of worms (so to speak). Didin't think this was such a widespread problem! I'm actually kind of amazed that I have 2 pages (and growing) of responses without posting pics of half nekkid women or insulting anyone. Anyway, hope everyone gets this problem solved in a timely manner.

hdfatboy 02-02-2006 07:16 PM

Hey Fisherman

My H3 is currently at the dealers. Both of my roof rails are defective. One is warp and the other does not meet the front windshieds post 3/8'' to short. There is also a flaw in the paint that the dealer offered to repaint the complete right side of my truck I said noway. Also there is a sterring column switch that began creaking. They have order new rails and the replacements were defective now there are taking them from a truck they have in stock. The H3 logo on rear door chrome is peeling off. They gave me rental pickup to use for the last 9 days.

UNOMYFLO 02-02-2006 07:46 PM

hdfatboy

where is the column switch?

I have the creaking also.

where exactly is it? what switch is it?

Will tightening it stop the creaking?

f5fstop 02-02-2006 11:18 PM

for those with cracked roof rails, let the dealer know, get your name on a list, and when GM issues the fix, you should be notified by the dealer. They are working on the problem, and will get a fix. Primarily it will require new rails.

The problem has been expedited for customer satisfaction.

Edspad 02-03-2006 04:34 AM

Im waiting for the new parts too come in as well, Im not too big of a rush because im sure that means ive got to pull off my rack and demo out my wires

I didn't here from dealer about rail comming in yet. They ordered it last oil change about 4-6 weeks ago.Hopefully its in by next oil change about 4 to 6 weeks away.
Below is pic of crack on passanger side.

UNOMYFLO 02-03-2006 04:18 PM

I have a later built (newer H3) I do not have the problem..I wonder if is related to colder climates. If the rails are under stress from the mounting then the temp dips into the teens and below I wonder if it cracks then.

If I do not have the problem then have they fixed the situation with the newer H3's?

FJD 02-03-2006 05:19 PM

**** me, I got it too !!!!

OTD was $607.00 $499. plus tax on $1499. I bought my H3 11/18, so there was a valid rebate available and the dealer honored it. They are cool and worth it.

jp's-h3 02-03-2006 06:13 PM

Be cautious if ever removing the rail caps, they break easily, especially if it is cold out.
This happened to mine (pass. side) luckily it was covered by warranty but, the dealer had to order the entire pass. side rail system, which I thought was a joke! And when I took it in to have it replaced, I expected to have them pop on the new rail cap, Instead they had to replace the entire pass. side rail system. Why does everything have to be handeled the hard way! Other than that, nothing but pos. A+ remarks for my H3 and the dealer!

hdfatboy 02-08-2006 12:38 AM

No adjusting the switch, the dealer replaced with a new one. When I applied an upward pressure on the steering wheel the creaking went away. It part of the tilt assembly.

BforBRAD 02-09-2006 03:55 PM

I have the crack also(about an 1 1/2")but just on the drivers side.Has anyone else had water on the door sill(small amount)because of the crack? I'll have the dealer check it when I bring it in for my first service.
