Today on my way home, I experienced a hugh and very noticable difference....

My acceleration was better, the throttle response was almost instant(As opposed to the lunge before acceleration). Overall felt more power on the peddle. Take offs were noticably faster.

I couldn't figure out why the sudden change??? At a stop signal I noticed my "TOW/HAUL" light was on.

I took a longer route home and experimented with turning the TOW/HAUL on and off. The difference was night and day.

I use this feature alot when I'm towing but never tried it with no load.

I feel kind of silly asking, but can anyone verify this or mabye experienced the same thing?

frank6150 06-15-2005 02:22 AM

Excellent discovery my friend!

I too have noticed something special. Let's say for example you are driving down the highway at oh maybe 70mph and you are weaving between lanes, the truck tends to not handle at all like a Ferrari.

Now I have figured out how to get over this massive hurdle, simply drive the truck as fast as possible in reverse and suddenly your steering becomes much more responsive! It turns crazy fast!

I'll give it a whirl tomorrow D, but if my **** breaks I'm sending you the bill along with a zip loc bag full of fresh feces.

DennisAJC 06-15-2005 02:29 AM

No joke, If nobody suggests any damage due to prolonged use, I'l be leaving that feature engage all the time.

HUMMERcustoms.com/TAZ 06-15-2005 03:21 AM

Dennis My Buddy can not tell You how far you can wind out. But, what is happening is You are taking the torque managment out of play when You hit Tow/Hall button.

DennisAJC 06-15-2005 03:26 AM

Taz,

Winding out??? Is that good or bad thing. Not recommeded for non stop use? The change is addictive.

h2sin 06-15-2005 04:13 AM

Put an NOS label over the button

H2Finally 06-15-2005 05:22 AM

Dennis, I'm surprised you have not used that feature before!

I use it all the time during rush hour, when climbing a hill, when taking off after an ******* that just cut me, etc..

In TOW with mine though, I need to drive a lot 'smoother' as the switch between gears are much rougher.

Dug 06-15-2005 09:19 AM

Dennis , it is ok to drive in tow/haul mode. The gas mileage might not be as good. But the faster stronger shifts are better for the transmission , because the bands are not slipping so much to give you a mall queen ride.

HUMMERcustoms.com/TAZ 06-15-2005 12:02 PM

Dennis I'm sorry for choice of words. I guess I should have used redlining it. I forget You are from one of those 3rd world countries.

KenP 06-15-2005 12:10 PM

Damn, I never tried it. I wonder..... No way....

So Dennis, when you are getting a SuperCharger?

1BADH2 06-15-2005 12:27 PM

With my lift and 41's I have to drive in tow haul mode all the time it really ****s and gets. I haven't noticed anything different that might be happening to the truck but the gas mileage

KenP 06-15-2005 12:43 PM

Just turn it off when you're cruising on the highway. That should help some.

1BADH2 06-15-2005 01:24 PM

Can't with the tires it's always in and out of gears.

tower 06-15-2005 01:54 PM

Dennis,

I can't believe you didn't know about this. The other benefit is that you get about 35 mpg in tow mode. But don't tell anyone!

Also, I have some swampland in Virginia (sorry, Kenny & h2c-p) that is about to be rezoned as commercial that I'll sell you cheap.

KenP 06-15-2005 02:34 PM

That'd be Great Dismal Swamp-land to you.

DennisAJC 06-15-2005 03:01 PM

Ken,

Still want tyhe SC and probably will in a few weeks. I was just so surprised with the change when TOW/HAUL was engaged.

Horace,

I use it alot when towing the trailer or boat or a heavy load in the back. Having it engaged at the time was an accident. But a good one or I wouldn't have known.

Thanks for the input by all.

Is the gas mileage better or worse in tow mode?

ahh, ok thanks for that info.

DennisAJC 06-15-2005 03:49 PM

It's an H2, who cares about mileage???

Denny Crane 06-16-2005 05:48 PM

I too have been using this feature with the Supercharger it does make a + effect on the mileage. I think due in part to not needing more pedal to get going.

The only shift point i find a bit long is the final 3 - 4 which occurs at or close to 60.

I use it alot and have over the 3 years we've had ours.

D

usetosellhummer 06-16-2005 06:39 PM

It's electronic control of the shift points and you can have twice the fun if you buy a programmer for about 3-400. It gets even better launch and worse gas milage.

h2co-pilot 06-16-2005 06:41 PM

Dennis, I love your signature line.

Fastest H-Town Realtor 06-16-2005 07:16 PM

I find that the only negative to using this mode is that the OD does not kick in until 55mph....so if Im in a 45mph area..and actually doing that speed, the engine stays in 3rd, or about 2300 rpm'ish

That's the beauty of it. Just press the button to turn it off!

CONRAD II 06-17-2005 06:12 PM

What a difference. I drive in the city in gear 3 but there still is slow reaction time from my sut when trying to pass other vehicles etc. In tow mode and gear 3 my h2 seems like its always ready to respond immediatly. On the hwy I drive in D and leave tow mode off. Does anyone think that I am potentially damaging my tranny by driving the way I do in the city. I'll tell you guys one thing, its nice to have the reaction time from such a big heavy vehicle.

KenP 06-17-2005 06:26 PM

Alec has a fancy interior.

HummerNewbie 06-17-2005 06:32 PM

Alec, can you take some better pics of the interior. Know someone who would like to do that to his interior.

Wood is Good!

DennisAJC 06-17-2005 09:41 PM

Conrad,

I was very surprised to when I accidentally discovered it.

I use it all the time when towing or hauling heavy loads, but what a diference when I have it on all the time! VROOOOOM!!!!!

Ricers eat my dust.

P.S. The last time I sat in Alec's H2, there was an overwhelming smell of Pledge.

DennisAJC 06-17-2005 11:07 PM

Sweet!
