Like the grill and bumpers. But the fenders, mirror, etc. is a little much.

timgco 12-07-2005 08:33 PM

Can you please take more pics of the fender areas? It looks good from what I can tell in the pics.

Sewie 12-07-2005 08:47 PM

Tim - you thinking about doing yours.

The more I look at the pics, I think it might look good on a black one. And definitely protects the fenders.

There's just too much contrast on this one IMO.

timgco 12-07-2005 09:11 PM

Not sure, but I look like the look. i think if I were to do it, i would make guards on the main impact areas on the fenderflares only.

Highlander 12-07-2005 09:13 PM

I like that alot !!!! I wish i had gotten mine like that but i probly couldnt afford it. Just curious is this John ?

Steve - SanJose 12-07-2005 09:27 PM

Kind of ugly but might serve a purpose for bush wacking scratch resistence. Might as well consider doing up all the vulnerable surfaces in plastic like a Honda Element and offering it as a super offroad option.

But those of us using H3's as a UAV (urban assault vehicle/ski transportation) will probably decline.

evldave 12-07-2005 11:46 PM

couple weeks ago I went down to the Rhinoliner dealer and got a quote for similar work:

Roof - $275
Fender flares - $250-$300
Front grill (if I removed and brought separate) - thrown in when he was doing the other work.

Not a bad price, I'm just waiting until after Christmas and more $$ to get it done.

evldave 12-07-2005 11:49 PM

ok, was thinking some more. Are you planning on doing the plastic that goes up and over the doors? From the pictures it looks like that might be the only uncoated black plastic? Otherwise, this looks really great!

HummerNewbie 12-08-2005 12:08 AM

Think I would have to see it in person to really tell. Looks like in should be a police vehicle with the black on white

Desert Dan 12-08-2005 12:30 AM

I like the fender flares front and rear. The rest is too much. And hard to wash

It looks like some of the H3 Test Mules in the book on the H3

NEOCON1 12-08-2005 12:44 AM

looks like a chia pet

crop000s 12-08-2005 01:02 AM

Looks OK, would look better with paint job that would fit theme. Maybe an urban camo pattern w/black rims??

Huck BB62 12-08-2005 04:36 AM

You do know that you can get Line-X in white eh? Gotta question, why call it a "rhino" H3 when it's coated with the superior product, Line-X? The Line-X guys hear you callin' their custom H3 a rhino, their feelings are going to be hurt!

aggiehummer...er 12-08-2005 12:09 PM

Brand association. I'd venture to say 90% of people would recognize Rhino before they would Line-X. Rhino is the truck's name. Line-X is proudly displayed on the sticker though.

We're getting some black simulated beadlock wheels in in a couple of days, those will go on it, we actually had a wheel Line-Xed to see how it would look, it wasn't bad.

ree 12-08-2005 12:14 PM

Aggie,
How are the door handles on the hands? I think KenP was considering Line-X'ing his chromies that came on his SUT and was worried about them being too rough.

BTW, I don't know what to think about this one. I think the stark color difference between the trim and body color is overdone. If it were a two tone with the lower part of the truck in a dark color. Crop000s's idea of a maybe darker or cammo paint might make it fly better.

GreenH3 12-08-2005 01:44 PM

The step-up bars should be Line-X for sure.

ckhagman 12-08-2005 05:21 PM

I like it but it does have the police look like someone else said. I saw a guy in annapolis, md that did it to his H1 many years ago.

Definiately a good idea on the line-x. I have rhino on my trailer and it sucks. I also put a sample of line-x and a sample of full metal jacket and the line-x is definitely the way to go. The rhino and ful metal jacket faded terribly. The line-x stayed glossy.

aggiehummer...er 12-08-2005 06:17 PM

We put the Kevlar topcoat on it as well, the Line-X guy said it should hold its shine very well.

Lucifer 12-11-2005 05:30 AM

Looks like you missed a few spots, I can still see some white showing.

4churchill 12-12-2005 01:36 AM

Im a huge fan of Line-x...my 2003 grill came out awsome back when I did it, and I was at that pont considering doign other parts....but this H3 definately came out pretty damn good

Humm3r 12-12-2005 03:11 AM

Line X grille looks good on blacked out Hummer.....other than that, I think this one's over done. Looks like a law enforcement vehicle.

Aggiehummer...er,

Question, did LineX say anything about how the coating would perfom on the "Plastic" Pieces????

ie, Bumper pieces, mudflaps etc?

Thanks,

Beebster

aggiehummer...er 12-19-2005 08:43 PM

I told him beforehand to not do anything he didn't think would last. He said that plastic pieces should be fine. It's his lifetime warranty on the line, so he wouldn't say something like that just to say it.

HummBebe 12-19-2005 09:22 PM

Thanks, the guy I'm working with just mentioned that they may not be able to do them. He's a new franchise owner.

Thanks for the info, can you post a pic of the back? Pretty Please?

local line-x dealer wouldn't commit to warranty on plastic.

He didn't want to do it when I first went there, but after talking to DRTY about his I just took it back and said "Do it. If it melts, too bad for me."

They used 60 grit to really rough the surface and then used a "Misting" technique for the application. It wouldn't have taken them very long, but it was their first so they were extra careful.

KenP 12-20-2005 10:13 PM

I also had them do the roof rails. Installed them this evening.

KenP 12-20-2005 10:19 PM

Also, here's an idea we didn't think of until it was complete. Buy the HUMMER grill letters. After the Misting step, have them apply the letters to the grill. After coating them the letters will have a nice embossed look.

Here's what ours looks like. The letters would stand out more if we'd have done it the other way.

Looks Awesome.

I won't be doing my grill.

And Yes, he did not commit. But I will follow Ken's lead on that.

Oh, and weather .........

no hail yet, but the lightning is cool. i miss those east coast thunderboomers.

the local guy here says they've had issues with it coming off in chunks, or patches, when applied to plastic. i was going to cut away some of the sides for the grill, to get more airflow, so i'll probably do a lot of the sanding myself. 60 grit is a good idea, since it's never going to be smooth again. i'll mention the "misting" technique, thanks.
