I remember seeing these at a car show about 5 years ago.... Something about shooting hot water on a frozen windshield doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Since the announced "Limited-Edition Pacific Blue Hummer" has a heated wiper system, I wonder how difficult it would be to retrofit it to older H2s?

I don't see anything wrong with what I'd say is semi-hot windshield fluid shooting on your window unless it's -60 F or something like that. Didn't know the Pacific Blue Hummer comes standard with it. Wonder if it helps resale? If I install I'll let you know how it went, maybe post instructions. |

Any idea if they are going to use a different button from the one that came with the unit? I know the buick lesabre and Cadillac DTS will have the units too...

Ok, the yellow box is where I'm thinking to mount the heater unit. The heater is supposed to go inline between the washer pump and the nozzles. So, which hose do I need to splice into? The red or blue? or both? Thanks for the help guys!

I mounted mine on the firewall in the area of the yellow x, but I don't remember which hose. It was two years ago. I mounted the button below the rear washer control.
I will see if any of our local dealers have the limited addition that I can look at to see how they mounted it. |
If someone would take pictures of the setup on the limited edition and post them here it would be helpful.

![]() Ok, got everything installed, but messed up on my power point. I connected to the upper left stud under the fuse cover (I thought there was power, but then there wasn't...don't know which fuse to look at). So I switched to the upper right fuse...it started working, but then stopped. Blew the fuse...it's a 30amp...so have to get a new one. So, now the question is...can I attach the power line to the power post/stud on the left side of the fuse block? The lower one doesn't read power, but the upper one does. It's marked as B+ in the diagram.... Any thoughts before I blow another fuse? (oh, the one that came with the unit is a 60amp...that's why I blew the stud #2. ![]() |
Ok, finished it. I connected it to the B+ terminal and it works. The only thing that doesn't work is the automatic setting. It says it doesn't have water flowing in when it's on the auto setting. I'll have to call tech support tomorrow. It works just fine manually though. Hey dick, did yours work on "automatic" when you had yours?

Punched through this grommet without any problems...much easier coming from the engine compartment to the inside...had to move the hood spring bracket out of the way

Ok, this is where I messed up... Don't do it the way it's pictured here. I tried the two posts on the top...didn't notice the second one had a 30amp fuse on it...so after blowing the first and second...finally attached it to the B+ post...the top one along the left side of the fuse box. This one has a 125amp? on it. Haven't blown that fuse yet...
Oh...anybody know where the fuse is for the left post on the top side of the fuse box? The right one was easy to see blown...but I don't know where the left one is... |

I was too lazy to "mount" the inline fuse for the hotshot...so I just tied it down...

All done! I attached the ground to the convenient screw to the right of the hood latch. Took me longer than I would have liked...but this was the first time working on electrical stuff on this rig...and I was trying to keep the 16month old from crawling underneath the vehicle....kids...
Now I just have to check on the automatic setting for the hotshot. It wasn't working properly...but everything else is. |

The manual says it needs to be primed by activating the regular washer fluid to fill up HotShot the first time. I did that and used half the fluid in the tank and it still didn't work! Can't remember the electical hook up I used. Getting old and the brain cells are going fast. |
OK, here is what I found out. Since we have dual washers (front and back) we need to install a bypass kit. Tech support is sending me 1 right away. Everything is still OK to use in Manual Setting in the mean time.

Awe..How did you get it for free? I spoke with the guy..he said "is this jim?" I said "no, but probably the guy I've been talking to with the same problem." He told me that I would probably need the extra parts...come to think of it...it probably wasn't Jim that I talked to. Oh well...told me the kit would cost $4.00 plus shipping. So I checked around here locally without any luck and then called the order department. Just got a fax, and it says the kit is $2.00...they're going to try and just first class it to me instead of paying for ups... Oh well....just a couple of bucks..I actually got two kits...I might install one on my wife's vehicle...

I am guessing that at some point the line to the rear window nozzle passes under the vehicle with the other fore/aft piping. That means in subzero weather you must keep moving a column of heated fluid through chilled piping until you heat the piping sufficiently that it doesn't cool the fluid to the point of being ineffective in removing ice. My guess is that it would require at least two complete flushes of the rearward piping to work. I don't think the HotShot holds that much fluid. Doesn't seem very efficient to me. I'd be curious to hear from someone who has used the rear bypass kit on an H2 in severe weather. Let me say that I'm having the HotShot installed for use with my front washers to remove ice when I go hunting this winter. I understand it works very well in that mode. George SSSS |
The bypass actually isn't for the rear washer. It allows the hotshot pump to draw fluid directly from the reservoir. If it doesn't have the direct flow, then the pump can't pull the water through because of the "one-pump" setup. If it can't get enough flow, then the auto setting is useless...
In the end...just helps get the unit working properly for the front windshield only... Just make sure when you/whomever installs it, you need to get the bypass kit for it to operate properly in the H2. Like NJH2 said...you should be able to get it free...otherwise $2.00. |
